Doing Disney NOT on DVC Points

Please note, I'm only asking these questions, I have no intention of doing anything that is not 100% allowed.

Due to a point shortage as in I used all of mine for this year already and don't want to borrow I will be staying on site paying Cash.

1) Can I use my DVC card to get the discount at various restaurants on property they give it. Like the buffet dinner at Cape May?

2) If it is a time of the year that pool hoping is allowed, can I, if the pool is allowed to other DVC members and the pool I'm going to is not crowded do it. Please note we will not be taking up 50 chairs, just one for me while my 2 kids visited the Poly pool for a couple of hours.

3) Can I go to the Member's meeting at the Boardwalk or OKWest?

I am more interest in # 1 and 3 as those are the ones I'm 100% sure I would do if allowed. We've never pool hopped yet but if my kids asked if we could I’d just like to know the official ruling.

For some discounts, the room ID with "DVC Member" is required, but your DVC membership car may suffice for many. It can't hurt to ask. Valet parking at DVC Resorts definitely accepts your DVC Membership card.

Pool Hopping does require the room ID with "DVC Member" noted. Your Membership card is not sufficient.

You can certainly go to the Member Updates at OKW and BWV. OKW is 8:00am Tuesdays and BWV is 8:00am on Thursdays.

Enjoy!

Thanks. That is what I was expecting, expecially about the pool hopping.

The one I think I need to stay away from though is #3. I just know the mood I'm in, I'l walk in to see what's going on at the Member update and walk out with 100 more points. LOL

We're staying at Coronado Springs this December and paying cash. If they don't take my DVC membership card for discounts, I'll be one disappointed DVC'er.

That doesn't make sense that they'd need to see a room key with DVC member on it. If you're a member you should get the discounts whether you're using points at that time or not.

Peace

You know now that I think abuot it, I know we've gotten a DVC discount at DisneyQuest when we've eaten at FoodQuest just by showing our DVC card. No one asked about a room card there. As far as the food discount goes, I'm just going to offer my DVC card and see what happens.

I will not pool hope though, as that I know is a no-no altough one of these times I'm goint to rent a studio at the Beach club for one night even just to let me kids swim in Stormalong Bay.

Your membership card is all that is required for the discounts, you don't need a room key. I have even used the exercise room by showing my DVC card when I was staying on cash, although I don't think they are supposed to let you do that.;)

Even when I'm staying on points, I show my DVC card for discounts rather than the room key.

I don't think the DVC membership perks and discounts have anything to do with how you are paying for your accomodations. I would have no problem showing my ID card and expecting to receive all the benefits of DVC membership.

Yep, I think the only one you can't do is pool hop.

You will definitely not be able to pool hop or get the UPH discount unless you are staying at a DVC resort.

Discounts at locations like PI, Water Parks and most included restaurants will be offered with a DVC membership card- no room ID needed.

We'll have an annual pass so no need to worry about tickets!

Thanks to all for your help.

#1- Yes.
#2- No
#3 -Yes.

Regarding the discounts, you might want to ask if any others are offered. We found 2 instances where we could get a better discount using another membership (much to my surprise). In the case of the Illuminations Boat Cruise--DVC was 10% discount, but AP holder was a 15% discount. In the case of parasailing, DVC was 10%, but AAA or AMEX card gave a 15% discount.

Have a wonderful trip!

There is only one perk I can think of that require one to be staying on points at a DVC resort. That is the UPH discount. The other that requires a member to be staying in the DVC room is the member dash discount. Same for HH.

As hard as it is...its probably best to keep track of where you're supposed to be getting discounts and which discount is best yourself. Usually I find if I ask if there's a discount...or which is better, DVC or AP, I get a blank look from the CM....they don't seem to know.

I've been horrible about getting my discounts in the past...I tend to forget in the thrill of just being there!
