I just looked at the forecast for my trip next week and it looks like more than a few days will be at least scattered showers:sad2:

Are there any parks/activities that are better than others when it's raining??
I would really appreciate any tips - you've all been so helpful already!!

I'll be there with you next week - can't wait. When it rains, we just put on rain poncho's. If you wear glasses or just hate water on your face, wearing a ball cap under the poncho hood helps. Sunday looked to be the worst day - we are going to the MK that day. I'm hoping that between rain and the Super Bowl, it won't be as crowded as usual on the weekends. Taking my 70 year old mother this trip and my sister for her first trip ever! don't let the rain stop you - just go on as you usually do.

i'll be there next week also and also going to MK on sunday ... are there any rides that shut down throughout the world when it rains? i would assume not but then again who knows

I am praying the forecast changes with the rain. We have the fantasmic dinner package that night on sunday. I hate to have them cancel it and end up paying without getting to do the show.

The only park I would avoid while it is raining is AK because pretty much all of the attractions are outside except Festival of the Lion King and Dinosaur.

You might want to skip MGM during a down pour if seeing Fantasmic is a big deal to you.

Thanks for the tips! I'll be purchasing my ponchos today!! Good idea about Animal Kingdom, too...

Good tips so far. I agree on staying away from AK. The good news is, when we're there and it rains we have found the crowds to thin out quite a bit. I would think that MK would be your best bet; EPCOT Future World we've done in the rain (sometimes Test Trak shuts down) and it was fine too. We didn't do WS in the rain since a lot of that is walking outside and enjoying street entertainment. MGM should be fine too; I would imagine they wouldn't be doing the stunt show or Indie, though.

FYI go to Target camping section and get disposable ponchos. They're less than a dollar each but durable enough to last the week.

We leave this Thursday and the weather looked rainy for a few days. Hoping if we do get rain they are passing showers. A cloudy sky I can handle. The temps look pretty decent which is nice, maybe we can actually wear shorts during the day!!! I hope we get some sunshine!!

I know, I'm getting so depressed w/ this rainy forecast for next week!!!

When we were there last June it rained. We wore ponchos most of the time. The worst rain was when we were in Magic Kingdom - they closed Dumbo, Astro Orbitor, the Carosel and the Magic Carpets I think. Maybe Tom Sawyer Island too?

You can still have a blast when it rains! We stayed at Casey's for a looonnnnggg time, the piano player was entertaining my kids BIGTIME.

Add me to the list that will be in the MK on Sunday. The funny thing about that is...when I first started planning, I found some information on All Ears that said Sunday was the best "low crowd" day to go to MK. So I booked all my things around the information on that website. Now, 3 ADR's later, I hear (from other touring plans and websites) that Sunday is a bad day for MK and that it should be avoided at all cost! So, maybe the rain will make it a do-able park on Sunday. I've never been too worried about the rain showers, but the forecast I saw was for thunder storms. I'm not very fond of the idea of being in the parks during thunder storms. But a lot can change between now and Sunday, right?

A lil rain wont ruin your trip. Grab your poncos and go. And there are alot of inside attractions but that is where everyone will be. If the weather is not to bad just grin and bear it. The worst we ever had it was this past June and we had a tropical storm. Would have been better if it would have turned into a hurrican and went through quickly. We had strong winds and rains for several days. Yeah, we got wet...but we were at Disney so we got over it!

For us, it just depends on our mood that day I guess. If it's raining while we're at the parks, we just usually suck it up and keep on going or look in the shops longer than we usually would. If it's raining when we wake up, we might go to Downtown Disney and shop or watch a movie. Last July, we watched the new Pirates pirate: and then went to the MK and rode Pirates! Or we'll ride the bus to the MK and then get on the Monorail to the Contemporary and look around there, then ride the monorail to the Poly and look around there, then ride the monorail to the GF and look around there. Whatever floats your boat! There's so much to do at Disney that you could never get bored!

As a guest I had the most wonderful time in the parks when it rained. If you're not afraid to look a little silly, you're good.
Roll up your pants so they don't get wet, wear a poncho with a baseball hat underneath and a good pair of shoes and go play ;)
No, seriously, I know you'd prefer to have picture perfect weather and not a cloud in the sky, but the worst thing you could do is worry about it too much. Just be prepared for ANY type of weather and it won't be so bad.

I once went to the park with my friends and the weather was PERFECT, no indication of rain, nothing. And we should have known better than to go without umbrellas, hats or ponchos in July....but there we were, as all hell broke lose and it rained so hard, we didn't dare to look up in the sky, because we thought we might drown instantly. We were completely taken by surprise and went into fits of giggles and ended up just playing and dancing in rain, jumping puddles and just having a grand old time. Needless to say that a Margharita or two was involved. My point is: You can still have a GREAT time, even in the worst of all rainstorms.
Just make sure to hit the parks that are heavy on parades/shows, like MK/Studios, on a day that is most likely not going to have that much rain, since the parades/shows are pretty much the only attractions that will be affected by heavy rain.
Have fun :)

If you have kids, sometimes rainy days can be the best time to go. Mine loved splashing in the rain and being allowed to get wet, while the "big people" sat on a covered bench or table or wherever we could, with our ponchos on. A lot of the crowds will head for the exits when it rains, or head to indoor attractions, so once it clears up - typically pretty fast in FL - the crowds are low and it's just such a beautiful time. Last year I rode the monorail around during the rain, we sat in the front seat with the driver and it was really cool. A very rainy day can also be a great time to tour some of the resorts - there are a lot of different shops and things to see in the deluxes that you might not take the time to see otherwise.

I just wanted to add that we just got back and our day in AK was cool and a little rainy. It was great for the Safari because a lot of the animals were out and very active. I thought it also added to the whole ambiance of walking through a "jungle" in the rain.

My dh and I also had to explore WS in the rain while our friends took the kids back to the house. It gave us lots of time to really explore the stores and cut down on the crowd for Illuminations (which a CM told me only gets cancelled if there is thunder and lighting.) Take a few extra ponchos to throw on a bench for dry seating and enjoy!

When it rains we just put on a poncho & a hat & keep going. Nothing is going to ruin our magic. pixiedust:

I also always make sure to pack an extra set of shoes for each of us. There is nothing worse the squishy wet shoes the next day.

Epcot is the best park in the rain, especially future world. We were there Christmas Day during a horrible rainstorm and tornado warning. Spent a big chunk of time in The Land: Soarin', Jr. Chef program, food court, Living with the Land and Circle of Life. Then we were at Living Seas for Nemo, Turtle Talk, the play area, and aquarium stuff. They also have kidcot stations in each land. Still bring your ponchos though!

World Showcase is very doable in the rain also with the shops, characters and the indoor movies and rides. The only bad part is they cancel the street entertainment.

On our trip in December, it rained a number of times. Only once did it rain really hard for a really long time. Most of the time it was an hour or less of light rain.

In no case did it stop us! I don't think I'd be happy walking around in a poncho when it's 90 degrees out, but this time of year it's usually decent temperatures. Certainly, during our trip we didn't mind the layer of plastic we were enchased in very much at all. :)

Just go and be prepared. (At least prepared to spend $7 or whatever it was on a poncho, like we had to! :rotfl: )
