Does your Spring Break change with Easter?

Just wondering how many schools change their Spring Breaks so that they are always the week before or after Easter. Ours doesn't, it always stays the first full week in April no matter where Easter falls.

Mine changes, but that's because my daughter attends Catholic school. It's much more about Easter, than spring break at her school. I have coworkers whose children go to public school in NYC and they get both a midwinter break in February, and a spring break in April. My daughter gets one break -- Easter.

No, our does not change with Easter regardless of Catholic or public school here. All schools here are closed on Godd Friday. Spring break is usually 3rd or 4th week in April. Mid March would be way too early for spring break for us - freezing and still a good 3+ month before the end of term

Ours is always the third week of April. Its tied to Patriots Day (remember the battle of Lexington and Concord and Paul Revere's ride from history class). Most of Massachusetts is the same and some districts in other New England states also.

I TOTALLY respect schools for closing on Good Friday, and then making Spring Break midway through the semester so that it doesn't have to fall over Easter. Too many school districts try to be politically "correct" by making Spring Break fall the week before Easter, so that they don't have to recognize Good Friday separately.

The part I like about having spring break the week before easter is that I get to send my kid to school the next day still hyped up on her candy binge from the day before. The schools just ask for it doing it that way but hey at least i don't have to deal w/ her.

Is this Patriots Day a local thing? I only ask because 9/11 has been designated as Patriots Day and I just find it odd that there are two "holidays" with the same name. Obviously the battles of Lexington... came first, but I was just curious if this is a local holiday or an actual federal designation.

In NY, the public schools change with Passover. Often Passover is right before Easter so it seems that it changes with Easter. But when Passover and Easter do not fall in the same week (like this year), the kids get Good Friday off and the week of Passover. I am thinking it is because Good Friday is one day, while Passover is two or three.

Ours changes with Easter. The teachers actually vote on the calendar as part of our contract. We can either vote for it to coincide with Easter or with Ohio State-since many teachers take classes there. This year because it's so early, I will be on break on my birthday-and at WDW no less!!!

Next year we will have the samething with the kids going back to school all hopped up on candy. Last year Easter was the Sunday before Spring Break and they were on a cranky sugar high the whole time

We always get Good Friday and the week after Easter. I know some people get another week off during the winter but we dont' get anything between Christmas break and Easter break. We do get out May 30 though!!!!

Our Spring Break this year is March 17-21 and dd also gets Easter Monday off.

Our spring break is always the same week as the Master's. We live in SC, but about 2 minutes from Augusta, GA. It never goes by Easter, but the kids do get Good Friday off.

Is this Patriots Day a local thing? I only ask because 9/11 has been designated as Patriots Day and I just find it odd that there are two "holidays" with the same name. Obviously the battles of Lexington... came first, but I was just curious if this is a local holiday or an actual federal designation.

Patriots Day is a state holiday in MA and I think in Maine also. It was made a legal holiday in 1894 (I just looked it up), so it predates 9/11 by over 100 years.

I live in a suburb of Houston, TX. Since we've been here, spring break is typically the 2nd or 3rd week of March. This year it happens that our spring break is the week of the 17th which is the week before Easter. The kids do not have the Monday after Easter off.

Generally, when Spring Break does not fall around Easter, the children do not have Good Friday or Easter Monday off. Every now and then, the district will do a "staff development" day for teachers on Good Friday.

I am orig. from LA and attended Catholic school. We would have a week or half week off for Mardi Gras and also a week off around Easter. The week off around Easter was considered to be "spring break". It was different than school schedules here in Texas.

We didn't plan our Disney vacation around Spring Break this year because it happens to be around Easter which we considered might be pretty crowded.

PatriotS (plural) Day, eg April 19/Monday near that, goes "way back" (not sure when it was officially designated a holiday, but it was a holiday in Massachusetts- and Maine because we were part of Massachusetts until 1820 {as a part of the Missouri Compromise, another history lesson there, lol}) It's the day the Boston Marathon is always run and, as stated, the start of the MA/ME spring break.

I strongly suspect when they declared Sept 11 Patriot (singular) Day, there were no New England senators/etc involved. I hope they'd have piped up in favor of less-similar sounding name!

To answer the OP- Maine spring break is always Patriots Day week. Feb break is always Presidents Day week.
