Does your school have a fall break?

Massac Co. IL starts full day classes Sept 17th and gets 1 day for Labor Day in Sept., 4 days for Columbus Day in Oct. (1 is for Parent/Teacher conferences, 1 is a Teacher Institute and 1 is for holiday), 1 day for Veteran's day, 3 days for Thanksgiving in November.

I've been reading all these posts from East TN. I am also from East TN (Knoxville) and this year in Knox County, we will only get 2 days for fall break Oct. 20-21. But we've been asking for a week-long fall break for a long time. Neighboring counties already have one. So next year we will FINALLY get a week off for WDW!!!!! Oct. 16-20. School starts Thurs. Aug 11th.

I can't wait for our first MNSSHP next year!!!!!

I'm in a new district this year - we get Oct. 10th off for Fair Day and the entire Thanksgiving week.

My DS will still be in my old district. He gets Oct. 3rd off for Fair Day and only Wed - Fri off for Thanksgiving week.

I live in NC and we are out from 10/28 through 11/3 and guess where we'll be?? ;) MNSSHP!!! :bounce:

Perfect break for a short trip to DW! :teeth:

I don't been to be nosey..I am just curious. Your kids have a "cycle" of nine weeks on and 3 weeks off though out the year? If so, isn't it tough to get them back into the swing of things after 3 whole weeks off?! :confused3

Indiana most fall breaks are 2-4 days long and usually the last full week of Oct.

We have a break Sept.19-23 and the whole week off at Thanksgiving
From Woodstock,GA

school started last week. the last day of school was May 26 or 27 (I've already forgotten, LOL).

we are on a modified year-round schedule, with 2 week breaks in the fall, at Christmas, and in the spring (unless there are snow days to make up). We get the day before & after Thanksgiving, and a few other scattered days during the year. The kids are in school approx. 180 days a year :)

hi jrjac,

well, at first I thought it would be a problem but we love it! :flower: The kids retain more and the break is just enough for them to get back on track with out having to "reteach" say if they were on a regular schedule, the teachers felt that they spent too much time "re teaching"

we are the only district right now in our area that has the cylce for elementary schools. I know there are a few other districts that are thinking about changing to a all year cycle.

The schools offer "vacation station" for the 3 weeks off ( of course you have to pay for this service) basically because parents don't have the time off from work :rolleyes1 I don't know of any company's around here that will let the parents off for those " cycle breaks"
Now the middle schools and high schools are on "normal calendar" So the transition is a bit tough for 6th graders. I know my oldest dd had to adjust to being "bored" that first summer. Didn't last too long.. believe me :rotfl2:

hope I helped answer some of your questions.. :flower: got any more? ask away not a problem :sunny:

ps. our pre-school is on the same cycle as elementary so dd started at age 3

Our school doesn't get any extra time in Oct, They get a break for Thanksgiving and a few days for teachers(1 at a time).

We take our DD out for our WDW trip in Oct/Nov but only because she doesn't have a problem with catch-up.

I for one would like to see all schools go year round and give 2-3 week breaks, summer break is just too long and the kids get bored and some into trouble!

Our school has a break at the end of the third week in October. They get that Thurs. and Fri. off. In the past we have used this week to take our trips, but it didn't work out that way, so we'll be taking them out the whole week the first week in October.

Our Fall Break is Oct 24 - 28 in our school district. I am happy to say we will be at WDW that week.

Not sure if anyone else posted, but in our town the kids start back Aug 29th
and then ave off Labor day, and Oct 4&5th and then the 13th all which are
Jewish holidays, and also Columbus day is thrown in too, so we are going down for 9 days in Oct (4-12) and the kids only miss 4 days off school! :cool1: Can't wait :hourglass !!

I wish our schools would move to year round, the kids forget so much less and only haVE three weeks to get bored. Plus with my husband being in the military he's been deployed the last three summers and can't always take vacation during the summer. If we had four break periods a year it'd be much easier.

Our fall break is Sept. 19-23. The kids went back on Aug. 1st.

We then have a week at Thanksgiving, two at Christmas, a week in Feb, a week in April and we are out before Memorial Day

Canton, GA (Cherokee County)

We go to the public school in St. Charles county, which is year round schooling. The kids started school July 20. September 26 starts our break and they return October 17. This is the best time to take vacations for us and have been doing so since we moved to this area.
