Does your school district have off on Pulaski Day??

To answer - no we do not have it off. And thanks, I never heard of this holiday - now I am a little smarter :teeth:

:confused3 Just wondering. It falls on the first monday of March. I work for and my kids go to Chicago Public Schools and we have off on March 6th for Pulaski Day. So I was wondering if others did too?? (also thinking about a quick weekend trip somewhere..... maybe WDW??? :cloud9: )

So just checking to see who has off that weekend.

Thanks. :)

I live in the northwest suburbs in Cook County(Schaumburg/Hoffman Estates) and our school dist. does not have off Pulaski Day- they never did. Our school dist. has off President's Day on Feb. 20 and a half-day inservice on Wed. March 8. The half-day inservice on March 8 is called a building inservice :confused3. My kids just had off a day and a half this past Thur. and Fri. for parent-teacher conferences.
I guess it depends on the school dist. in Cook County, to have off Pulaski Day or not :confused3. I can understand the CPS are off. The Pulaski Day parade is usually on tv, right? Or am I getting confused with the big St. Patrick's Day parade?
Well, have a good weekend away, if you are going anywhere!
tubachick- come visit the rest of us Chicago and Chicago suburbanites at our Chicago disers thread. :sunny:

Never heard of it. When we lived in Kissimmee we didn't get off for President's Day but were off the Friday before for Rodeo Day. Yes, every year when the county fair is in town, the kids are off of school to go to the rodeo.
My elementary school always had a day off for the Deerfield Fair, the country fair that's a couple towns over, at the end of September. Everyone always loved 6th grade. Thursday was a field trip to the fair, and Friday was a day off :teeth: .
No Pulaski Day here. The K-12 schools just get Presidents Day off (not Lincoln's birthday or any of the other ones). Then the following week they're off for Feb. vacation. Of course my college still has school

The last day of school is the Friday before Memorial Day. The Friday before Easter and the Monday after Easter are another school break.

I opened this thread because I grew up in Chicago, and I suspected that Pulaski Day had to be a "Chicago area" thing. I remember learning about him as a kid in school (before he had his own holiday :cool1: ).

"Pulaski Day" reminds me of the Ferris Bueller movie when they go downtown to see the parade for whatever holiday it was (can't recall). Does Pulaski get a parade?

From the title it sounded like a Chicago thing to me too. We get the first day of deer season off in PA, it is always the Monday after Thanksgiving, so we have a 5 day weekend.

When I read the title of the thread, I thought to myself, "I wonder if they're from Chicago?" I remember Pulaski day when I was a kid growing up in the city.

Go to WDW!!! :)

here in california the kids get the regular fed, mlk, and generaly one prez day. no other special days-but there is a push to make ceasar chavez's birthday a state and school holiday.

my kids do get the second prez day this year but it's for teacher in-service (the school decided that allot of the parents already had it off so it might be more convenient for child care).

I am looking at a value for three nights (leave on friday and return late monday)

We could do it and it would be great.....

I LOVE Pulaski Day!!!

This is the first I have heard of it and no we don't have it off either.

I have to laugh because my kids get Pulaski day off too (I never heard of it until I moved here), but my brother who teaches in Pulaski, WI (with a large Polish population) gets nothing!

I am originally from Seattle (yes, my family is depressed today)....when I first starting working in Illinois I was the director of a school for severely emotionally disturbed children. I was running the weekly faculty meeting and announced that Monday was a holiday in honor of Roman Polansky. I was met with blank stares and lots of giggles.....apparently Polansky (as in the director who was involved in a child sex scandal)and Pulaski (Revolutionary war hero) are NOT interchangeable. Yes, my kids have the day off, too!
