Does Your Doctor's Office Close for Lunch?

Some do and some don't.

For those that do, they often say they are closed from 12-1, but you get that message at least until 2!

No. In fact, I've never heard of medical offices closing for lunch.

It occurs to me that would be a huge issue for people in certain companies, who prohibit personal phone calls during work time, necessitating phone calling at lunch.

None of my doctor's offices closes for lunch except one. For 2 hours. After the 2 hours are over, you can hardly get an answer, or you are placed on hold when they do and they never return to the phone. This is a new doctor and the first I've ever experienced this. In a medical facility, I don't feel it's the right thing to do. It doesn't have to be an emergency to need immediate contact with the doctor's office.
In an business office, we have alternate lunch periods so that the office is always covered 8 hours straight. The same should be the case in a doctor's office.

dentist, orthodontist, orthopedic, pediatrician and my primary care....all yes. way way back in the late 70's early 80's in the summer, I used to work as a receptionist for my dentist uncle. noon-1:30 was lunch, no patients, no answering phones. (and he paid me lol)

I’m not sure about my GP’s office; they don’t advertise that they do but I always make my appointments online and never go in the middle of the day so can’t say for certain. My opthalmologist’s office does close. It annoyingly overlaps with my lunch break so it can be difficult to find a time to call and make an appointment. My doctor has called me during their lunch break, so I think it is a case of it just being a time to catch up on other work.
