i never have a problem on the podcast board....but....the minute i post on some of the others by about reply 5 or so somebody will get all up in my face about something.........and............away we go..........it just seems to happen all the time. a holier than thou attitude or snarky remarks. some have their little "things" they do like talking down to you then asking you if you would like a coconut............whats up with that? no matter what the question someone will find a way to bring race or something into it, and god forbid you say something the DVC owners do not like. am i doing something wrong? i am not looking for trouble but it just seems to find me............can any of you tell me if this happens to you????????????????????? or what i should do different.

I'm pretty new, but haven't had any issues yet. Of course, I mostly just post on this board, so that's probably why! I read some of the other boards (Community Board, etc), but they don't seem quite as friendly as here.

There are always people that are protective over one thing or another. And if you post in a way that is disparaging of that thing (intentionally or unintentionally), then you will likely get a response that is less than friendly.

It is nothing unique to these boards. It always has been and always will be.

Ive been on the boards since 2007. I can only remember once I had someone reply negatively to something i posted on the boards. I always find that most people on the boards are rather friendly and helpful. Although I tend to not post in threads that are controversial... after awhile you will know the topics that are sensitive on the boards I just stay away from them.

I tend not to post much on the other boards because of others' lack of respect and social skills.

And DVCers on the rent/trade board are some of the least responsive DISers I have encountered as of yet.

Can I offer you a mango, papaya, or star fruit?:goodvibes

Don't take it personally. I've had a few threads closed on mr cause they get a bit controversial. Just have fun and don't worry.

I have noticed that since the close of the debate brd, many posters on the other brds have gotten "snarky-er". Questions that start out "innocent" take a total 180. I just take things with a pretty big "grain of salt".;)

I agree that there are times where things can get touchy, but I also think that people get a little hypersensitive and view comments as "mean" or "rude" that wouldn't even get a passing thought on another internet board. There are people here that seem to believe that since this is a Disney board so nobody should ever post a critical comment or disagree with anything they say.

If you post that you're filing bankruptcy, walking out on your mortgage, still going to WDW, staying at Concierge level at the Grand Floridian-and plan to use last year's re-usable mugs-you're going to get some negative feedback. ;)

But at least your not pool hopping. That would be the ultimate sin. :rotfl::rotfl:

Ah, seems like a good time to post the latest version:

I am developing the "Unified DISboards Field Theory", the first law of which states that no matter how peripheral and well intentioned an initial discussion thread is, gravity will dictate that it will fall into one of several "gravity wells" of unending, unwinnable, and epic debate until it crosses the event horizon of the tolerance of a moderator within 5 pages.

Most all such gravity wells revolved around "rules", "policies", or "procedures" and the debates are usually about whether they are "strong forces" or "weak forces" (physics geeks will likely laugh louder about that).

Some of the most well known gravity wells include "late" Fastpass usage, refillable mugs, and pool hopping. And the "black hole" of the DISboards would be any discussion regarding Brazilian Pop Warner Cheerleaders using late Fastpasses while refilling their year old mugs while riding ECVs over other guests' feet.

It has always amazed me how much different people are on the internet (while screaming loudly "NOT ME! I'm JUST the same) then they are in real life.
People do have opinions on things but it seems that people who would have no problem communicating their opinion in a socially acceptable manner in real life feel the need to ram their opinion down somenone's throat when it's on the internet

Don't worry about it people on some of the other boards like the community board are really fake and wouldn't say most of what they post to your face.
The community board attracts the craziest people.
I do go on the community board its a good place to get a good LOL.

I was saying the same thing in the early 90s when the Internet was a very small fraction of what it is now...it hasn't changed at all. :)

It's the same phenomenon that causes people to treat cast members and other guests like dirt at WDW because they "paid a lot for this vacation and nobody's going to tell me I can't do what I want".

I had that happen to me on the Community Board. The "coconut" thing.

The OP of a thread posted comments attributed to themselves, when it was actually comments from an online article. When others made comments suggesting quoting a source (myself included), we did so in a nice way. The OP sounded like a kid who didn't have the maturity to say, "That makes sense, live and learn." Instead, he or she had to get on the defensive, turning around and making us look like we were horrible people for "attacking" him/her.

Such is life online. It's easier to be mean and nasty when you're hiding behind the anonymity of a keyboard than it is to be mean and nasty to someone's face. That's the way it's always been and will continue to be.

:lmao: Don't forget the ever popular "Should I take my kids out of school to go to WDW", "Should I take my 2 day old baby to WDW in August without a sun hat or sunscreen", and of course "Is my 12 year old too big for the Disney strollers". Oh, the drama! :lmao:

I read those threads just for the entertainment factor. :lmao:

I also don't take anything that happens on an internet board too seriously. When it stops being fun, walk away from the computer.....

Apparently three year old threads on finger scans is in vogue too :)

And the Grandaddies of them all....

"Instead of enjoying my vacation, I spent my time at WDW checking
the ages of all the children in strollers."

and

"I am a medical savant with special powers and can tell just by glancing
at someone whether or not they really need a wheelchair/ECV."
