Does the Mark Twain still take visitors out to Pirates Lair?

Or have they changed that?

If they havent, and the MT still takes you out there, can I still make a request to drive with the captain (for my son)? What’s the best process for requesting that?

The Mark Twain has never taken people to the island. It merely circles the island. I have heard of folks getting to ride in the wheel house. However, I have never done that myself. The island is reached by the rafts across from the haunted Mansion.

To my knowledge it never went to the island even when I worked there, unless it did pre-80s. You can get to the island via the rafts.

If you want to pilot the Mark Twain just ask the cast member on the dock. Just know that they don't always let someone up there and it is only one group per trip, so you have to be the first to ask. You get a certificate and everything, very exciting for a little one or not so little

Everyone else is correct, to get to the island you must take a canoe. I haven't been out there since it became Pirates lair but they were changing it over last time I was there.

we went on the Mark Twain but CM's were training that day so we couldn't pilot. We also took the raft across to the island twice, DS & DD loved the pirate theme. For the first time we canoed around the island and that was a blast.

Just a little correction. The canoes do not go to the island either. They merely go around (like the Twain and Columbia). The only way to get on the island is by taking the rafts to Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer's Island.

The canoes are tons of fun!! We love doing them and have even done it in the rain! You should ask the Captain of the MT if you can pilot the boat, we asked and my girls got to do so. They thought that was so neat! Take the MT around PL and use the rafts to get there and wander around, the tunnels are really neat.
