Does the magic diminish over time?

We live near Disneyland and have visited many times since I was a child. Through the years my love for Disney has grown. I've experienced the wonder of it all as a child and then through my children's eyes. Now they're teenagers and we still get that butterflies in the stomach feeling whenever we set out the door to go. Our first trip to DW as in '04 and we expect our upcoming trip next summer to be just as wonderful if not more!

My family has been season passholders for the last 7 years My DH and I were before our kids, but we took a break for a bit. After going on day trips, we began staying at resorts a couple of days at a time. Those days grew longer and are now annual passholders.

My dh and I began worrying that the kids may be getting Disnied out, but that has yet to happen. They still get as excited as they did when they were little. They have much more freedom now and don't hang out with mom and dad as much :sad2:  , but it is still our magical family place. pixiedust:

We have our best family times there and I hope to take the grandkids there some day. Heck I hope my kids can afford to take us by then.

Seriously, it is still full of magic and magic never gets old. :wizard:
Have a great vacation. AKL is beautiful and will add to your vacation immensely. :sunny:

I have to say my love for all things disney has gone through it's ups and downs, never totally lost the magic but had a few rough patches. One was staying off site that was a big downer I'll never stay off site again and the other was the first trip I took without my beloved husband. We both loved disney so much and when we had our surprise DD in 2000 he wanted her to be our Disney baby so we started her early at 18months but when he lost his life to lung cancer in 02 I wondered if I could continue to enjoy it and on that first trip without him I really felt like he was pushing me to continue I got through it and now oddly enough I love it just as much and I also feel very close to him and I also share wonderful memories with our youngest Dd who didn't have her Dad with her as the older children did.

Yes the magic still lives on, we visit sometimes weekly and I'll never stop loving each and every time we get to go. Here's some pixie dust that your trip is as wonderful if not more so this time around!

i have been there 54 times and love it everytime. i try to go 2 or 3 times a year. the magic never fades for me and for that moment in time i fell like a kid again.

We go three times a year for a total of a little over four weeks.

We have a 1182 mile drive each way.

Even the trip we are there for two weeks, we (DH and myself) are trying to figure out ways to stay longer.

We can never get enough.

But, I know what you mean. When we first started going down, we did not know very much and we stayed clear out by the Florida Mall. It was a long way out. And like you, the other couple we went with wanted to go back to the room and take naps. And I do mean naps.

I was so upset. Last thing I wanted to do was drive all the way in and then leave at mid day.

After day one we decided to drive on our own, so when they wanted to leave, they could.

After a few stays out there, we started staying at Downtown Disney. That was really nice.

We stayed there for years until we bought into DVC.

I would say based on my own experience, maybe the other people were the reason the magic was not there.

We never knew there was anything at MGM that would take more than an hour or two to see until we went solo. We were shocked.

I am sure you will like AKL. I have heard a lot of nice things about it. We have never stayed there. For us, we spend so little time in our room as we are in the parks from the time it opens to the time they kick us out. :Pinkbounc

Our 1st trip in '99 we stayed offsite. So it didnt really seem that magical at first until we got home and looked at the pics. Then it hit! We had to go back. So we have been at least once every year since then, sometimes twice. After the 3rd trip we bought into DVC. That 1st trip as owners was not a good one. The weather was very cold and rainy. And we were still commando touring the parks. But now, with a few more DVC trips under our belts, we have learned to slow down, relax, and literally smell the roses and all those other delicicous smells of WDW.

So the magic is still there and each trip gets more and more anxious awaiting it. We have friends who are DVCers from back in '92. They have gone at least 50 times(including trips before ownership) and it is still magical for them too. That gives me hope that the magic will never diminish.

I have been going to Disney nearly every year since I was little. The only time the magic even faded a bit was when I thought I was too cool for Disney but deep down I still loved it!!!!

The magic has started all over again now that I have children and can see the joy in their eyes!!!

Staying on site is definatly better but even offsite I still have the magic there!!

I think it just keeps getting stronger! I've been 14 times and look more forward to each trip than I did the previous one. We PROMISED my dad that we would go somewhere different with him Spring of 2007, but we are already trying to find ways out.

Years ago, as a single mom...it was all I could do to save enough to go to Disney with my two boys. We really pinched our pennys at home in order to be able to go again (since my divorce). We did our first trip as a 3some in 2000. We absolutely had a blast. Our last trip there with their dad (97) was not good at all...so this was a huge improvement. We totally enjoyed every minute and there was magic.

In May of 2003, thanks to a keyboard and Match.com, I met my prince...and I mean that in every sense of the word. One of the first things I mentioned to him was that he had to have a love for the "Mouse". Oddly enough...HIS last trip was horrible with his ex wife in 1989 so he never returned. What are the chances of this! Anyhow...our first trip together to WDW was absolute the best ever. We even went thru a DVC presentation (his idea) and he signed the papers on the spot!! We were married in May of 05 and both of us have never been happier. There is a lot of truth to the saying: you have to kiss some toads before you find your prince! Now there are 4 of us here that love the mouse. We go with an open mind (crowds..heat..cost) so as not let anything rain on our parade so to speak. We have more fun that two teenagers down there probably (we are 43/45)...and my boys have a blast. I have been now probably 15 times and love it MORE each time I go...and it gets MORE magical. I learn something new each time that I missed before. I eat somewhere new that I didn't eat at before or I check out a hotel that I haven't been into for quite a while.

remember: the magic is in your heart....

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your husband TomB'sWidow. It puts my petty concerns into perspective. I hope you and your family continue to have happy memories of him whenever you return to WDW.

Thanks again for your advice, insights and reassurance, and in some cases for putting things into perspective for me. :goodvibes

The only downer for me now is the fact that so many of you lucky people have managed to visit so regularly. I'm soooo envious. :p

I think we'll emigrate to the USA...maybe in the central Florida area ;)
