Does powdered sugar (confectioner's sugar) go "bad" or "stale"?

Was doing a bit more baking with my granddaughter a little while ago and one of the cut-out cookie recipes called for a frosting made from powdered sugar.. After the frosting was made I tasted it and it was really nasty.. Had like a funny stale taste to it.. I put a little on my finger straight from the container and it had the same taste. I have had this powdered sugar since summer, but it was stored in an airtight container in a cool dry place..

Anyone else had an incident similar to this?

Yes- I was making sugar cookies today and pulled out the powdered sugar and it had a stale taste to it. I've had it for a while. Not only was it stale tasting it seemed to have lumps of sugar in it and not fluffy like you normally see powder sugar. I went out and bought a fresh bag.

Hmmmm.. That's what I thought.. Guess I'll have to go out tomorrow and buy some fresh stuff because I have quite a few more recipes that call for powdered sugar.. Luckily, it's not all that expensive.. :)
