Stupid question I know, but Im just curious if they have them, since its generally very warm there most of the year.

Yes, Orlando does have native species of scorpions in the area. Typically they are called bark scorpions and really wont bother you much as they are very small and generally nocturnal.

Florida has seen some species of tarantula introduced into the area though I am not sure if there is a wild population within Orlando or on Disney property.

As long as they are native, they are helpful little guys to have around, though i certainly would not want to have one in my room or anything.

If I ever saw a tarantula at Disney, I would run straight back to Kentucky and probably never return. Eeeek. I hate spiders more than anything and those guys are the worst. :scared1:

Well then dont go to Animal Kingdom because the park has em - granted they are in locked boxes used to educate people about them... but still, they are there.

I've lived in the Orlando area for three years. I've never seen a tarantula. We do have wolf spiders, but they tend to stay around wooded areas. I did have one small scorpion in my house right after I moved in. I've not seen one since. They are nothing like the ones found in the western US.

We have those here in Georgia. The only time I'm aware of them is when one drops into our lighting fixture in the kitchen or when one of the cats decides he wants to "reward" us for being his parents. I have never seen one of the alive. For the most part, they are harmless.

Now, I have seen the big scorpions in Arizona. The really bad ones. Three in one night. They were docile enough that my husband captured all three (one at a time) and gave them their freedom in our backyard.

I've lived in FL for 23 years and have never seen either, anywhere.

I have seen other spiders, just one that I know of that was a little poisonous. :)

What kind of spider did you find? Here is a good resource regarding venomous spiders that talks specifically about Florida.

SPIDERS!

It was a brown widow. I remember telling my now-husband "there is a pretty spider in the trash can!" So that is what it was. :)

I don't see very many snakes or spiders here. The scariest for me were banana spiders in St. Pete, where I used to live, even though they aren't dangerous at all (but they were big).

Last month, we were on the walking path between the Tinkerbell store in Fantasyland and Liberty square (right beside the moat around the castle) and saw a baby garter snake along the fence. It took off before I could get a picture.

Thanks for the warning. I guess I've never been to that part of Animal Kingdom, but I'll be sure to steer clear. The line for the Jungle Cruise also has a giant, fake spider in a box, and I make sure to avert my eyes anytime I'm near it. I'm such a scaredy-cat.

1) Yes.
2) However, they also have lions and tigers and bears (oh, my).
3) Of course, that is during Spring Training.

The only creatures like that I have ever seen at Disney was a giant toad on my front step and lots of those little gekos. As long as i dont see the Blizzard beach snake il be fine lol
