Does O'Hana take walkups for dinner?

After making my ADRs for our early June trip at the 90 day window (and getting what we wanted), I have since decided that we really want to eat at O'Hana on our last night. I called yesterday and there supposedly is not a single reservation available for 3 at any time during our 7 day stay. [The CM, who was rather unfriendly, pointed out to me that this restaurant is very popular and that I should have called 90 days out - thanks for the tip!]

Is there any chance that we could be seated as a walk up (realizing we may have to wait an hour or more), or do they not even consider walk ups?

You are better off making ADRs. We tried a couple of times as spur of the moment to get in as a walk in to no luck. Our last October trip we caught wise and make reservations. We had early ressies and the restaurant was full the entire time we were there.

Back in February we showed up before they opened and when the hostess came out to the podium(about 20 minutes before opening at 5pm) we went right up to her . We were surprised we got in with no problem and so did some other people who didn't have ADR's. We were seated about 5:05pm. When we sat at our table our waitress told us at opening they almost always have tables available. There were still a few empty tables after we had been there an hour. Before this we tried on another night and went around 7:30pm and were told the wait was almost 2 hrs. So I wouldn't bother unless you go at opening.

Thank you for this info!! We booked a last minute trip for May and we missed doing it at 90 days. Hence, no luck at all with an ADR for Ohana. We will definitely give this a try!! Hope it works for us, too. :wizard:

Keep trying to call, also. It would definitely be better to have an ADR.

Hmmm.. sounds like we got the same CM! lol Same kind of thing happened to me when I called. I felt like saying thanks for schooling me on ADR policies and procedures but I booked my trip at 40 days out!!

Yes! Walk ups at most restaurant are available at opening. Make sure to check some restaurants open at 4pm or 4:30 for dinner service.

I was told about this from a Dining CM back on Thanksgiving. The restaurants leave a few tables opened at that time to give the wait staff some time to break into the dinner rush.

Usually this is the ONLY time to do a walk up at Ohanas. (This DOES NOT work at Chef Mickeys during peak season, we've tired :sad2:)

We did a walk up at Ohana in September. We had about an hour and a half wait, but we got in. They gave us a pager that would reach anywhere in the lobby so we were able to while away the time in the gift shop and wandering around the lobby. I'm thinking if we got in during the free dining frenzy there's a good chance you can get in other times, too.

We tried to get a walk at Ohana - think it was in December 05. We were staying at the Poly and went at opening time and they told me they were totally booked up. I guess they must have been busy.

But, the following year, we did manage to get a walk in at Kona Cafe at lunchtime. There was only two in our party at Kona though and there was four when we tried to get in Ohana - I guess that makes a difference.

The only problem I can see, is that if you can't get a table, you'll waste a lot of time trying to find somewhere else to eat, on your last evening in WDW. Is there anywhere else you'd like to try? You may be better off making an ADR for an alternative venue.

Maybe. It is also possible that you'll be turned away, so have a backup plan available.

They don't hold room for walkups. Your best chance is generally believed to be at opening. Seating walkups at tables that have ADRs for haf an hour out but will remain empty until then defeats the purpose of leaving them empty - which is to stagger the start of dinner so not all tables are ordering at once (better for waitstaff, the kitchen, and the guests) - and it creates a problem half an hour from now when the people who have that ADR show up and you are sitting at their table - and will be for another 30 minutes.

I think that it's possible to get a walkup at their opening time, but I agree that you should have a backup just in case. Kona Cafe is just next door to 'Ohana.

So if you have issues getting into 'Ohana, you might have better luck at Kona. And the food at Kona is very good, so it's definitely a decent alternative.

We stayed at the Polynesian last September and did not have reservations at Ohanas, but we tried doing a walk-up one night and were seated without any problems. As a previous poster said, put you name in at opening and there is a good chance to get a table. We were told 90 minute wait, but in actuality they sat us in about 15-20 minutes. Also, keep checking with Disney Dining for openings, people cancel all the time. We’re going back to WDW in early May and I was able to grab a dinner reservation for Ohana and CRT last week :cool1:
