Does Mousekeeping Clean in a special way when there is a stomach virus on the rampage

On the restaurant board there are threads talking about many folks with terrible stomach viruses going around during Thanksgiving week. Sounds a lot like the Norwalk virus that tends to hit the cruise ships. Many folks were just violently ill in their rooms. I wonder if WDW is aware and if special precautions are taken to protect the room's next inhabitants. Does anyone know?

I wouldn't think so. The housekeepers can barely keep up with the bare bones cleaning they do now. If anyone is concerned about any viruses left behind, in their room, they may want to bring some sanitizing wipes down with them. I'll be bringing some with me next week...just to be on the safe side. Then, wash your hands often, and make use of those hand sanitizers while in the parks.

I think another way to avoid the virus is to stay well-rested. Yeah, I know, rested at Disney? But really, you will pick up anything if you are tired and stressed.
Our two silver bullets are Airborne and Goji berry juice (supposedly stops stomach viruses - DH is violently afraid of vomiting - available at health food stores). I swear the placebo effect alone is worth it with DH. ;)

There's definitely a virus going around. My sister and her entire family ended up with it on thier last day at WDW last week. It was not a pleasant drive home.

I agree that housekeeping isn't doing any special cleaning as a result, so wash your hands often and bring your Clorox wipes for the room.

While we were there as soon as we were walking off a ride - I had my bottle of purell out- bring refills!:) you can just imagine how many germs are on the handles of the rides. I know you cant kill everything but, what I can kill is not in my system!

I also wipe everything down around me on the plane - the trays- the knobs etc..just makes plain sense - if you are going to have a snack to have wiped it down- the person before you could have been ill.

we went late January - cold and flu season- we were healthy... I am a germaphobe! I admit it...but that is ok there are alot worse things to be:scared1:

We were there for 10 days over Thanksgiving. We took Airborne for a week before arrival and I doused everyone constantly with Germ-X and Purell! We were fine.

I took a disinfecting spray and hit every surface I thought anyone would touch. It's doubtful housekeeping is taking time to clean things like the tv remotes and light switches, which are probably the germiest things in any hotel room. We also carried Purell into the parks and used it after every ride, plus made frequent stops to the restrooms and washed our hands well. We were at Disney for 2 weeks and no one got sick. :thumbsup2

I tried to find a couple of small samples of Can spray Lysol because it
does kill the stomach virius but couldn't find them for our trip
so I looked at a can and compared that to the disinfecting wipes
and the missing ingrediant in the wipes was alcohol.
So I brought the Lysol Wipes and Purell (which is mostly alcohol)
and put some Purell on the wipe and wiped down all of the
hard surfaces in the room. I worried also about eating at buffets
where everyone touched the serving utensils, on our next trip we
will not be eating at any buffets. None of us got sick during our
trip but was grossed out by the buffets.
Here's hoping you have a Healthy Trip Virius Free!!

I agree with you about the buffets- we stayed away from them as well.

Count me in as another who avoids the buffets for that reason. It doesn't help that people just lay the utensils down IN the food. Yuck!

I make a firm habit of washing my hands right before eating (I carry towelettes just for this reason) and always wash immediately when I return to my hotel room. I use towelettes to wipe the switches, knobs, the tv remote, and the faucet handles when I check in. Since I started this, I haven't been sick at Disney.

Have you ever realized that you can wipe away too many of the good bacteria that we need and that can be just as unhealthy? I can't stand that anitbacterial, gel alcohol, that is just nasty to me, but I do wash my hands about a million times a day and don't seem to catch that much and I work in a hospital and come in contact with all kinds of people.

Just be cautious, those items can sometimes do more harm than good.

You can also request a special cleaning for medical reasons, I have to do this because I have Asthma.

Suzanne, there is room on the couch for you next to Rozzie, Kath2003, and I! ;)

I don't know the answer to your question for sure, but I can tell you one time my young daughter was vomiting continuously to the room and in the room (POR)after banging heads with another child. In the room, all vomit went in a lined trash can luckily. We called 911, went to the hospital, she had a concussion. Obviously, the hotel was aware someone had been sick. We were checking out the next day. Housekeeping came to the room between 9-10. I said we would be leaving the room at 11am, no earlier. The lady stood outside our window for over an hour until we left. She didn't have a cart, just a plastic bag with stuff in it :confused3 but it seemed to me some special cleaning was going to be done.

ok, the couch is getting a little tight but there's room for you in the armchair! :rotfl:

I pretty much live in hotel rooms around the world - about 300 nights a year or more. I have drunk the water in India, and eaten raw veggies there. I don't get sick very often - maybe a cold a year.

I don't wipe down anything in my room, or use anti bacterial products. Just soap and water....

I always take Lysol sanitizing wipes into our room and sanitize it (and remembering the phone, doorknobs, and remote while I am doing this). A Dis member (on another thread a while back) says she puts he remote in a ziploc baggie and leaves it until she leaves! :thumbsup2 I thought that idea rocked! I always carry antibacterial handwipes in my bag at the park, too. Other than that, I just hope for the best! We take at least one big vacation a year somewhere and we have never gotten sick! :thumbsup2

:woohoo: I'm small...don't take up too much space!

I like to wipe the TV remote and the toilet handle. But I don't go crazy with Lysol or alcohol. I'm a germaphobe, but rather than dousing everything around me with disinfectants, I wash my hands--alot. I only use Purell in one situation--if I am someplace where the "facilities" are port-o-lets and there's no place to wash your hands. I use a Wet One, then follow up with Purell.

I agree that the overuse of antibacterial products are probably doing more harm than good.

I am careful about what I eat and drink when traveling though--my tummy is definitely on the sensitive side. Power bars are my friend. ;)
