Does Mouse Gear stink for anybody?

YES! The monorail always stinks-exactly like the zoo.
I'm excited to check for the Mouse Gear smell ;)

You know you are addicted to Disney when you hear of a foul smell and are excited to go "check it out" :thumbsup2

YES!! THAT PLACE ALWAYS SMELLS OF RAW SEWAGE.

I'm so glad it's not just me smelling this!

I'm currently drafting a letter to Guest Services with some compliments for Cast Members from our last trip and I am going to mention this.

Please write to Guest Services about this because they really do make changes based on guest feedback (I've had an issue resolved as a direct result of contacting Guest Services in the past). They really need and want to know!

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT STINKS IN THERE!!!!!!

OMG we were just talking about this! To us it seems that they have taken the old (please excuse the description) too much coffee/icecream poop smell that used to fill Character Spot and piped it into that store throughout. Its been so bad one CM asked us if we were ok because we were breathing open mouthed and it must have looked like the sun had gotten to us and I just blurted out "HOW can you not smell that?!?!" She gave a very CM answer and quickly walked away. Its horrible to see they can actually move that smell around I thought it was just due to Fountain View.

IDK about Mouse Gear but the monorail smells like bandaids to me.

I've never noticed that.
I hope I forget all about this thread by the time I go again. I don't want to be 'looking for it'.

I noticed the smell in January and asked a cast member and she had no idea what I was talking about.

Then went back a few months ago and it still smelled.

I wonder if the cast members are given a "trained" response of denial or if they really don't notice it.

Yes, the entrance to Mouse Gear in breezeway across from Electric Umbrella always smells. I wonder if it has something to do with those bathrooms around the corner (the ones that face TT)

But the MONORAIL is what really gets me. Each one stinks the same distinct stink (IMO) I don't mind it but I always wonder if anyone else notices. My husband doesn't really notice anything. Smells like a petting zoo

Honestly, wish I could be smelling Mouse Gear right now.....

I'd trade the odor for being there..... :p

It's not just Mouse Gear, all the gift shops do.

Oh... I thought we were talking about selection.

Yes it does. I think it is the carpets or just a lot of smelly guests at once..
if you think that's bad, it's worse in the cast area below it when you pass electric umbrella

I posted about this a good while back and got a great many responses that few were ware of the smell. It is hit and miss it seems. This past Christmas the smell was there. This past May, first week, it was no there. I have smelled this awful smell at Mousegears and at Station Cool for years off and on. Lord knows what it is but they really need to do something about it. In the past it has been so bad that you literally could not stand to be in Mousegears. I had hoped that a cast member on here could shed some light on this but I never got any response that had a clue as to what caused it.

So, I haven't been to Mousegears. But is there a commercial rug in that entryway? My old office had a rug that was cleaned by Cintas on a routine basis. They would bring in a new one and take the other one for cleaning. And it would reek of poop every time they brought in the "clean" one. Now I notice it all the time in other places of business when I walk in the door. It's the rug cleaning chemicals.

OP here.

I think people's noises gets fatigue once they work there a while, so they won't notice it. They should overhaul and clean up that place. Or at least spray some fabreeze or something.

We should let Disney know. I want to come back there this Christmas but I am weary of that place. For me, it's most noticeable from the entrance that has the large spinning stick, I think it has a star on the end. It stinks and the clicking noise from that spinning device doesn't help either.

The monorail stinks too. Probably the plastic, the carpet, the seat. People sweat coming to and from, day after day, all year long, and I don't think anyone ever cleans them.

Edit: Here's a picture I found on the internet of that area/entrance.

Speaking as a master plumber it sounds like a dry trap to me

Yup ... I've smelled it numerous times around Mouse Gear, and I immediately thought they had some sort of venting or trap issue that's letting out sewer gasses. I though I remembered reading a few years ago that they may have even had a sewage backup around that area. Most likely this has been an ongoing issue for some time.

Every time I walk into that store, it stinks like a dirty diaper. I was there in 2011 and 2014, and it still has the same stink. What is going on?

LOL, for years I've been telling my husband it smells like dirty diapers in there! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
