Does MDE work on a Disney cruise?

I have never been on a Disney cruise but I am going soon. I have been reading this forum a lot and I am pretty sure I came across a post where someone mentioned that they were able to use the MDE (My Disney Experience) app while aboard the ship because they were on the same "platform" (probably not the right word to describe that, I am no IT person). Can anyone confirm?

I have to make dining reservations in the middle of my cruise and I am trying to figure out if I can make them onboard or if I need to ask someone else back at home to do them.

Previously, you could access most of the disney.go.com domains without needing to purchase an internet package on-board. Haven't cruised in a while, so not sure if that's still true. Also, not sure if that would extend to the MDE Mobile app, or if you would have to use the MDE website.

Just off the Disney Wish and can confirm that most disney.go.com domains are accessible using the free WiFi on-board.
