Does it really "feel like" 110 degrees?

Like the above poster mentioned. MISTERS ROCK!!!!!!!

Can be found here.... http://www.mistymate.com/personal-cooling.html

We usually bring 2 or three and an extra. Who care if the kids stay soaked...its Disney. I stay soaked myself and sometimes I will bring a towel, wet it and put it on my head. :teeth:

OMG I just noticed the prices on that website....WAAAYY to expensive, I bought mine at walmart for around $20-30.

Even after gowing up in south central and north florida it is still HOT.

I'm in Central Fla and honestly it's not that bad. Ok I grew up in Louisiana where the humidity is worst then here.

Take advantage of the AC where available, and the splash areas, drink lots of water, and get one of those mister fans.

Fortunate enuff here to go Every Nov for DS's B-day
On the honeymoon in Sept 98 I though it was hot that time of year
but I can only imagine what it must be like Jun/Jul/Aug..

It is threads like these that make us native Floridians feel like we have earned some kind of "red badge of courage" for being able to live in and tolerate the heat and humidity of Florida. :furious: :sunny:

Just stay hydrated (you need more water than you think - when you think you've had enough, drink more). Stay out of direct sunlight whenever possible. Wear a wide brimmed hat. Take advantage of A/C when available.

We true Suthrons have had a couple of hundred years during which to develop "gills" that allow us to "breath" when the humidity is so high that the air is more like water. Do not attempt this if you are not a true Suthron. Only true Suthrons with gills should attempt too much during the summer! :teeth:

So that's what we have down here, gills huh?

Low 90s don't usually hit until September.

Does that mean that it will be better or worse in Sept? We will be there the 2nd through the 9th. And we are coming from the DRY state of CO. The other day it was 98 here and 82 in Orlando, but according to the weather website I was on, the heat index was identical. Of course, I don't think that 98 here feels bad at all, but hate a 70 degree humid day in KS, lol.

I thought I read that humidity can be worse in Sept.

 Hi, I live in CO also. I will be at WDW from Sept 2-7th staying at ASMo and then on DCL from Sept 7-17th.

I know, :offtopic: but I just wanted to say hi.

your sweat doesn't evaporate and you don't cool off... Even though you're not cooling off, you're still losing water from your body.

This is a great description... add to that the fact that you can drink a gallon of water and still not have to pee, and you'll have a rough idea of what that whole "it's not the heat it's the humidity" thing really means.

Hahahaha!!!! This one cracks me up!! After 15+ years in FL, I now live in KS. I still laugh endlessly at the people who moan about the humidity when the temp gets up to (gasp!) 85 degrees... and I am dehydrated. There really is no other place where the combination of heat & humidity is quite like it is in FL.

ETA: A 70 degree humid day is KS = a dry wintery day in FL.

We too are going in July and you all are making me nervous!! Do you think that the waterparks are a good idea...cooling off ?...or a bad idea...water too warm and not enough shade? :confused3 thanks!!

Actually there is, New Orleans is wayyy worst then FL in the summer with the heat and humidity combination. Everyone is complaining how humid it is here right now and I think it's dry as can be.

FL high humidity days = Normal New Orleans Summer Days

New Orleans in the summer is like unto living above a pot of boiling water. Water immediately on all sides and all of it evaporating into the still, windless air.

:rotfl2: ain't that the truth it's miserable hot. DH has been down there working since the first of the month and he's said he would take the humidity here in Central Fla anyday over the humidity there.

Hi Pooh_friend! I'm not native, but sure love it here! I hope we can stay here until our children are on their own.

lyzziesmom, I lived in KS for 8 years, my husband is a native, and most of our family still lives there. It is funny how every place thinks their weather is the "worst". Here in CO we laugh at the "heavy snow" that might be 4 inches at the most! In NH 4 inches wouldn't even make the weather report, or perhaps casually mentioned as a "dusting".

I dunno maybe it was being at the Happiest Place on Earth, but I HATE being too hot and I had a total blast at WDW in August 2005, going back this August too. I remember it being bad on our way to CRT lunch one day very sticky and stifling but it rained a bit, got worse, rained alot got better. We spent as much time in a/c as possible and most days we went back to the hotel or into a TS or indoor CS in the mid-afternoon. We took advantage of free ice water and lots of rides at WDW have a/c. When I lived in NC, I was homebound during the hot hours of summer days, I just couldn't take it, but I was fine in FL. Keep cool and have fun. Don't worry, be happy :goodvibes

We are going for out first summer trip in July. I knew it would be hot and humid, but now I'm thinking this may be unbearable!!! This may prove to be our last summer trip. I do love visiting in the fall and winter and feeling the warmer FL weather.

I was hoping that at least the pools would offer a bit of respite but it sounds like they are also hot. Well, maybe I can hope for a cool front moving in 3rd week in July!!!!!!!

How are the MistyMates different from the usual mister fans from WDW and other sources? What makes them worth the extra price?

I'd LOVE to find something to help keep us cool in August, especially our DGD's stroller.

It will be extremely hot. But just drink tons of fluids, and make sure you either visit the water parks or ride the water rides. You're going to be at Disney World, so it can't be that bad, keep that in mind! :)

Hey, I live in CO, married to KS native too! Everyone outside CO thinks we're buried in snow in the winter a la "The Shining" ... no one believes me that we have more days of sun than San Diego and, here in the foothills/high plains, a tiny bit of snow makes people panic! I grew up around the Great Lakes - it would take a lot of winter to phase me, but I may curl up into a sweaty, frizzy-haired ball in the FL heat, feeling unsure about it.

Anyway, hi!
