Does it ever amaze you that you can instantly communicate with people from all over?

Every once in a while, I just sit back and go "Wow". If anyone had told me when I was a teenager that I would one day be able to sit at a computer and talk to people from EVERYWHERE from my own home - I would have told them to get back to their Star Trek convention.;)

The internet is truly amazing.:D

I've grown up using the internet and it still amazes me. It's really pretty awesome how much can be done on the net.

It is amazing. I was able to talk to my friend in the military when he was in Kuwait and Qatar and instantly got a response. He was so far away and I thought that was so incredible. :)

And for stuff like that, it's priceless. :D

Yeah, the internet is pretty amazing, but what's amazing is the amount of information that's on the internet. Then you think someone had to have come up with all this stuff.

The brain is an amazing organ!:)

It is weird that I can talk to you all the way from Buffalo.
LOL!!

Hi neighbor!

I was just telling my MIL yesterday that it is so wonderful to regularly communicate with people (especially Disney lovers) in other parts of the country (or world). I have so many local friends, but I have found a whole new group of friends online. The internet has definitely taken over TV's place in my life.

I remember reading an article in "Entertainment Weekly" back in the early 1990's prediciting that everyone will use the Internet all the time. I had just started using computers at work and thought that was crazy. Then we got one computer at work with internet access. Just for fun I started looking at the internet and got hooked. I bought a computer for myself in 1998 and I've never looked back....I use the internet for everything. In fact, between the official Disney site and these boards I planned my last Disney vacation almost totally online (but I did buy an UG). And yes, it does amaze me that I can have "conversations" with a friend in Philadelphia, my sisters in Virginia, and coworkers almost at the same time. I love the internet!!!!

And yes, it does take away from TV time. But this is so much more educational.....

Tes, VERY often. And when you think it has only been since '94 that we use the Net as we do, it is staggering. True, we used BB's before and things like Compuserve and Prodigy, but the Net, for the public, goes back only 10 years. Amazing, yes.

Im getting bored with it, I want to beam myself to other places

Yes, but frankly T.V. still amazes me. The concepts are just not there!

I do much better when I chalk all of this technology stuff down to "magic!"

My DH and I had this conversation many times over while we were in Kazakhstan adopting our son earlier this year, while there we were able to communicate instantly with our family, send pictures of us and our son daily back home to family, plus read our small town newspaper and mention happenings that they might not have heard yet.

To be honest thats what kept us sane while being gone from home for so long. ::yes::

As a gamer the internet is my best friend. Theres always someone to start a good game of Capture the Flag with.

Yes, being able to chat with different people that you would most likely never meet or sometimes even interact with from all over the world. And also getting all kinds of different information and such.

Yoo Hoo...Kenmore here :wave2:  :wave2:

It's very cool! It's so nice to be able to keep in touch with friends and family so easily, and w/out having to make a long distance call! I have several very good friends that I met via the internet. It's such an awesome thing! Of course you have to watch out for all those psycho's as well! LOL:eek:

It's pretty amazing.

My dear friend is leaving the US NEXT summer, and I am so thankful that we will still be able to keep in touch via email, and IM. It won't be the same as sitting and chatting, but it is sure the next best thing.

The other side to this, which I also have personal experience with is the deaf community. I have a cousin who is profoundly deaf, and has been since birth. To speak with her, we used to have to either go somewhere where there was a TTY we could use, or make the call via a relay operator.

Now, I can email and IM her to my heart's content. It's just awesome, and it has opened up so much for her too. She has this amazing PCS device that she uses to send email, IM and text messages too.
