Does it bother you to eat by yourself?

Hi ya Shannon:wave: I eat alone all the time, but I don't work. I eat alone at home:D

At work there are usually so many people around that on the odd occassion I eat alone I quite enjoy it.

I would love to be able to eat alone. I have been know to hide from my children so that I can eat alone.:o

I don't mind it, I wouldn't want to go to a real sit down restaurant and eat alone. I have a friend who'll go to the movies alone, that just seems so lonely to me.

I have no problem going to the movies alone either...you sit htere watch a movie and don't talk anyweay even if you are with a friend so it makes no difference to me either sitting alone or with a firend, I am still sitting there not talking....

I wish I could but my co-workers won't let me. Sometimes I give out lunch detention and that is like eating by myself, because no talking and no fun. I just read the DIS then, don't mind it a bit.

I really enjoy going to restaraunts alone. Nothing to fancy, Applebee's Olive Garden, that sort of thing.

I also like going to the movies by myself. My Mom, in particular, doesn't get it at all. But I think it's nice to have some "me" time once in a while.

It does bother me to eat out by myself, and I've only done it once....oddly enough, about 2 weeks ago at Sweet Tomatoes. I always just feel a bit lonely when I'm not around with someone.

Then again, the manager DID come up and ask me several times if I wanted cookies...hehehehe :)

When I was young and unconfident, it bothered me. I hated going anywhere alone.

Then I got a job that required me to travel 5-6 days a week. Believe me, after sitting in a hotel room night after night, you get bored and you learn to get over doing ANYTHING alone quickly. Sit down restaurants - I used to take a paper to read to have something to do, then I started just people watching. Movies - I realized who cares? everyone is in the dark and everyone is watching the screen so who knows if you are alone or not? I've travelled alone, shopped alone, etc.

I agree with CEDmom. I don't mind sitting by myself at work or in a food court, but going to a sit down restaurant would make me self-conscious.

I could bring a newspaper and read that, but bringing a book or a magazine would just make it seem worse.

Doesn't bother me at all! In fact, I ate alone all weekend!! My birthday is tomorrow and DH figured the best thing he could give me is a little peace and solitude (SO hard to come by in a house with 3 and 1.5 year olds) so he got me a hotel room and sent me off shopping for 2 days!! Got to do lots of antiquing that I don't get to do with the kids, got to do some shops at the mall, had whatever I felt like eating, even where there are no kids' menus!!

I had lunch at a wonderful little Tea Room in Williamsburg, dinner at a favorite upscale bakery/deli (no kids meals), a quiet leisurely breakfast at the hotel, and 2 desserts since it WAS my birthday present! Everywhere but the Tea Room I was "alone", but I don't mind it.....I just took a magazine to look at while waiting or people-watched at the mall. At the Tea Room it was so small and intimate that I joined in other diner's conversations and talked to the owner. May have even got some side-work out of it (she needs some sewing done...and I sew). I had a great time!!

But back to the real world....

I get the The Louisville Courier Journal and the USA Today delivered to my doorstep every morning. They are the reason I eat lunch by myself, I enjoy reading my paper and eating a sandwich. In fact when I'm sitting at a table eating I almost always have to have something to read. I hate going to lunch with clients or my boss because I want to read my paper! Plus I'm one of those people who has many priorities in life but the one at the bottom of the list is worrying about other people around me are thinking. I even go to movies by myself if I can't find someone to go.

I eat alone a lot. It usually doesn't bother me. While at work I eat alone. I need the few moments of alone time.

I don't mind eating alone, but I do usually bring a book or magazine to read. I find it relaxing.

Actually, when I eat alone, I do tend to make lists! I am an extreme list-maker and compulsive planner, so I can always find something to 'plan' while I'm sitting there alone! ;) Now you guys are making me want to go out to lunch (by myself, of course! :teeth: )!!

I actually had a therapist once who said that until you are comfortable enough with yourself to be able to go to movies and restaurants alone, you will NEVER truly be comfortable with yourself. For assignments, she had me do both and while the first few times were a little ackward, it actually became a little empowering and quite enjoyable. I always know I don't necessarily need someone else to be able to see a movie or try a new restaurant. Also some of the best service I ever received was when I was solo - the waiters tend to really want to interact with you more to ensure you are enjoying yourself. So if you haven't tried it - do it, you might be surprised.
