Does Ellen cause dizziness?

I recently read a trip report by a woman who said it made her so dizzy she had to sit down for awhile. I'm prone to (not nasuea) balance problems & vertigo. Should I skip it???

I have no idea how Ellen's Energy Adventure could cause you to be dizzy. The ride itself is slow moving and just takes you through different scenes from the time of the dinosaur. The only thing I can possibly come up with is that the pre-show is a HUGE, WIDE movie screen. I'm guessing that's what she's talking about because of the reference to sitting down. I know my best friend gets motion sick in the circle vision movies, but this is not a circle vision movie, and she never has a problem with it. If by some chance this does cause a dizziness problem, it is not problem to sit down. In fact I always sit down unless I come into the pre-show towards the end.

You know, I can't see how it would bother anyone, however, on our last time threw, someone vomitted at the end of the ride. In our row. Didn't say anythin, just walked away, and my son almost stepped right into it!

Big time Ick! The moral is that I guess it does bother a few people!

Just because someone got sick it doesn't mean this attraction made them sick. They could have just been sick, or they could have ridden Mission:Space prior to riding this attraction.

This is so true about mission space! i saw more puking people in Epcot last trip than EVER and most of them had recently been on MS! They get a little ways away to other rides and then lose it *blech*

As far as Ellen making someone dizzy...I have multiple sclerosis and severe vertigo/motion sickness type problems and i have never had a problem with this ride except for it breaking down in the middle and us getting stuck on it LOL.

It moves so slowly, I honestly don't know how it could make a person sick...but that's JMO! If you can go on Small World and not get sick then I think you should be fine on this one.

Im thinking maybe the part where they are flying in the helicopter and then dive into the ocean...that sort of makes you feel like you are up there with them, going over the scenes and stuff.

And yes, we had the luck of having a woman in our capsule "get sick" when we rode MS last month. Thank God for those barf bags.

Its funny that you should ask this question. Last trip, we rode M:S for the first time and I was very UNimpressed. I thought it was way overhyped (but that's a whole seperate issue). Later in the day, we rode Ellen and I commented to my family that I had a much greater feeling of motion on Ellen than I did on M:S. I don't get motion sick so it didn't bother me, but I definitely felt as if I was moving when I was quite certain I wasn't.

Reminds me of the attractions they used to have at the shore where you stood in a giant domed theater and watched a thrill movie with race cars, roller coasters, speed boats and such. Even though everyone was standing on solid ground, you could see people rocking and swaying and occasionally falling over as they watched the movie.

I had to shut my eyes during some of the "zooming" parts of it. That kind of stuff really bothers me. I also have to close my eyes in that one part of Buzz too.

It's not the ride inside that makes a person sick it's the movie shown in widescreen..........the zooming the little helicopter does over cliffs and stuff is neat, but if you're prone to vertigo, yeah, this would produce it nicely. LOL

That's a big problem at many IMAX type theaters as well. People get sick from the realistic feeling of the movie. Yuck, huh?

All I do is close my eyes when I feel the sensation start to overwhelm me. It usually works just fine. :)

I can ride Ellen's ride, but I do get dizzy and feel uncomfortable sometimes (head hurts, eyes hurt, tummy churns). It's the huge movies on the screens with the slight motion of the cars. I have vertigo and balance issues as well (have a hard time walking down stairs). I went on it once and was glad I did, but I won't go again (not worth feeling even kinda yucky)

What helicopter, what ocean....honestly I have been to Ellens World of Energy a million times (slight exageration) and I don't remember anything about that. Besides, except for the preshow, which is mostly just Ellen talking, you are sitting down. I'm lost!

What helicopter, what ocean

Towards the end of the ride, all of the cars pull into a big room and the movie screen opens up very wide and they show the whole part with Ellen and Bill Nye the science guy flying around in the helicopter and then it goes underwater. I can see that making someone dizzy, but you're sitting down at that point. The person must have been talking about the movie of Ellen at the beginning before you actually enter the ride. That is the only time you are standing.

Thanks for confirming that Mike! I was beginning to think I was crazy. ;)

If Epcots World of Energy makes anybody quezzy...Maybe they should rethink going to WDW for vacation.

What next .."does the Trolley on Main Street make you sick?".."does the Tigger bounce in WTP make your back ache?"

The Car drive Or Plane ride to WDW is much worse than any attraction (including Mission to Space) @ WDW. If getting there dont make you ill, then certainly no attraction will.

Perhaps it's the Florida heat & humidity, and not drinking enough WATER is doing everybody in!

I am affected by the heat asnd humidity, that's why I go to WDW in the cooler months, and I ALWAYS drink lots of water. I get dehydated easly even at home, so I know how to prevent it. But I've tried rides like this is LA and SanFrancisco as well, and they still make me ill, so I guess it's not the weather.

I am a bit offended by your post and I beg to differ with you.
While the World of Energy makes me ill (as do Body Wars, Star Tours and other rides with motion movies) I still VERY MUCH enjoy my vacation at WDW. I don't get ill on Test Track, or Splash, or Safari, or Dinosaur, and those are some pretty good reasons for vacationing in the Happiest Place on Earth. It's not the actual motion of the rides that get to me, it's the "tricks" they play on your eyes. It's like IMAX movies, I can't see those either. I went to one once and had to lay down in the back seat of my car with the air conditioning on for about an hour before I could drive home.

Everyone enjoys WDW different and the OP was simply asking if they should skip this ride as not to start feeling yucky and possibly ruin part of their day. I hope we've helped them answer it.

Not to pull this thread OT, but did anybody else, upon reading the name of the thread, assume just for a second that the OP was asking if Ellen Degeneres caused dizziness?

Maybe I haven't had enough sleep but I found that funny.

Kungaloosh!
Mort.

In addition to the wide screen action there's a part of the ride where you go into a tunnel with strobe lights. Maybe that can trigger bad reactions in people (i.e. headache, dizziness)???

"Laura Ingram" would say she gets sick on the ellen ride.

I didn't mean to offend you or anyone.

Dont do that any more, that will KILL you.

It was just a thought here. However when most people are on vacation, they dont tend to eat or drink properly, and lets face it..WDW is a WORKOUT. These are more realistic reasons as to why people feel quezzy! I really cant believe its the attraction.

Yes everyone does enjoy WDW. However on these boards , the written word is very powerful. Let me explain, I have read over and over HORROR stories about Mission Space. So much so that I was thinking of skipping it. And I am claustrophobic as well. Anyhow I didn't skip it, and it was absolutely fine, went on it 2x! The screen you view is about a 9 inch tv screen, and the feeling you get is very tame next to an airline takeoff. I am concerned that people will skip attraction(s) based on what they read here. Its not fair to them.

Now back to the Ellen thing (yeah maybe the original posted just thought it was Ellen herself). It is very rare if not impossible for people to get sick on the Universe of Energy, because of the attraction itself. There are other reasons, heat, exhaustion, bad diet, bad eye sight....but NOT the Attraction.
