Does DVC ever offer "specials" for potential buyers?

We are planning a trip to Hawaii this summer and are taking advantage of a special through Marriott Vacation Club. Essentially, for sitting througha 90 minute sales presentation, we are getting an excellent deal on room, rent car, free breakfast, free parking, plus $100 gift certificate. We are getting 5 nights for a total (includes all of the above), for $799. I've seen similar time share deals in other properties. Does DVC ever offer such deals, and how do you find them? (I got my deal from Marriott because we're in the Marriott Rewards program).

No, they do not offer "trial" discounts on rooms. Those touring of the model rooms at Saratoga Springs are usually offered some perk in return, but that freebie can range from a pin to instant FastPasses to meal vouchers.

Unless you want to try to solicit a reward in advance, there's really no way to know what (if anything) will be offered at the conclusion of the tour.

If you have a Disney VISA card, you might be able to get a reduced rate night at HH or VB.

I got a similar deal through Hilton for Hilton Grand Vacation Club in Orlando.

there was at one time - an offer to stay at the moderate resort (PO) for around $75 per night to do the tour -

saw it being talked about on the resort board -

call and ask....

In January 2002 I got a discount offer to stay at HH, if I would sit through a presentation. I think the price was $289 for three nights for a two bedroom. The offer came in the mail on a post card.

We really liked HH but ended up buying points for VWL because we figured we would stay there more often.

We stayed at the Saratoga Springs Resort last week and were invited to a one hour information session on the DVC in exchange for a $100 disney voucher good at any Disney store or restuarant.

When I asked my guide last June, he said that DVC never offer any kind of incentive for touring... Well, it looks he lied... Or is DVC becoming one of typical timeshares that offers free stay or $100 for taking their "presentation"?

I am not sure that guides know what is being offered.

the offering is done through marketing - which I would think guides would know - but they don't always.

that offer only went to certain people - I don't know personally anyone who received it - I think DVC finally realized to get people to buy DVC - let them stay on site anywhere - but I also love PO....

I really expected to see it more often - but to my knowledge it hasn't been offered again.

both HH and VB use to have the stay on our property and see the resort stays for $99 a 2-bedroom in off season. but since DVC Is not selling either I would not expect future discounts through them. However if they have excess inventory - I would expect discount rentals through the Disney Visa, annual pass and other things. - too bad they still don't offer us great deals.

one time to stay at HH they would pay for one night - if you got 2 nights - so I got 3 nights Sun- tues (leaving Wednesday) and got the Saturday stay FREE -very, very nice! they only had 2 bedrooms at the time!

IMO, look at the resales on the Mariott stuff before you go, they are all over the internet.

The pressure at their pitch is VERY HIGH. If you aren't careful, you will end up buying at a very high premium.

DVC product sells itself and the resales are not a huge discount over buying new.

I was just wondering, were you staying on points at SSR as a member of DVC or were you renting points from someone from this forum. I only ask this because I know the DVC only will give you perks if you are visiting SSR for the first time such as fast passes or a meal voucher to use at the time that you are at WDW.

They have done offers in the past. In 2002 they offered us a deeply discounted 4 night stay at AKL for coming in to preview DVC. I forget the exact discount. But my recollection was that it was much better than the AP codes were because we took one look at it and signed up. It was an offer they mailed out. I don't know how their mailing list was constructed.

Have done that with Hilton and Marriott. We are purchasing MVC this year to give us a program for use outside of Disney.

I can't speak from experience, but I doubt this happens when staying on rented points. I don't think the resort CMs can even tell that the true member is not in the room when renting points. We rented before buying, and every person we encountered seemed to think we were members. The front desk CMs gave us the requisite "Welcome Homes", our room keys said we were members, we got all of the member perks offered, and we even received telephone messages inviting us to the weekly member meetings.

That's been over 2 years ago now, so it's always possible their computer systems have changed since.
