I am staying at a moderate. If I call disney and ask about an upgrade to a deluxe , do they ever have an upsell price that is cheaper than the real price?

That CM must work in dining because thats not true at all. If you have a mod booked and call to make an upgrade its the same exact price as if you booked the deluxe at the start. Theres no changing the price, theres nothing the CM can do about the price. It is what it is.

Why would they do that? Then everyone would book a value and call back to upgrade to a mod or book a mod and call back to upgrade to a deluxe.

I have a friend who called and wanted POP for her grand gathering, they gave her CSR for a price that was cheaper than POP. I believe it said she was selected as part of the year of millions dreams promo.

It was a flex offer. When the CM selects "value resort" occasionally a mod will pop up at a discounted rate in the hopes that the next time you stay you will pay for the moderate instead of the value. Has nothing to do with an upsell price or the YOMD

Well when she called Grand Gathering they said it because of the Year of a million dreams. I dont know why the CM said that but thats what she was told. I dont think she was lying to me. :confused3

Nope, the CM does not work in dining, but at the resorts.

Where are you getting that from? Upsells rarely happen, so no, not everyone is going to benefit from it. It's based on occupancy and for example, if they need value rooms for a large group, they'll upsell customers to another resort that has alot of space. Case in point, September 2008, many guests were offered upsells to SSR and OKW from Pop Century because they needed more rooms for a group. Awesome deal and proof positive that it does indeed happen.

Because saying its a flex offer doesnt mean anything to the guest. If they say its because of YOMD or its "Disney Magic" it makes it sound better. The flex offers may be because of YOMD so she wasnt necessarily lied to but it definately was not because of an upsell rate

Youre talking about being on property and being upgraded. The OP was talking about calling ahead of time and getting a discounted rate or being upgraded on the phone.

If you read my reply I never said it was an upsell offer.

Tammi I also remember that deal from POP to SSR or OKW was a great deal!

The Pop upgrades were done via phone before anyone checked in. Some were offered it when they made their reservation, others with existing reservations were called and given the choice.

Yes but they didnt call and say "I have a reservation at a moderate and want to upgrade" and given a discounted rate. Thats a case of a resort being oversold and the guest was called or given the upgrade at check in

I didn't say the upgrade was given at check-in.... I said that some were offered it when they called to make their reservation, while others with existing reservations were called and given the option to upgrade. No one that I know of was upgraded from the Pop at check-in. And yes, based on the upsell or upgrade due to overselling, being talked about here, some guests did call to see if they could apply it to their existing reservation.

Okay, if you re-read my first post, I said that an upsell should be asked for when making the reservation. My statement that it couldn't hurt to call back and ask, is simply that. They aren't going to cancel her reservation or penalize her for calling back and asking and based on what happened at the Pop and what's happened with other resorts going through rehabs, she could possibly luck out and get an offer. I'm not giving false hope or telling a lie, so what exactly is wrong with what I've written?

I dont think anything. I dont know what the issue is here.

:confused3

My family was one "kind of" mentioned in this thread. We got a free upgrade from AS Music (not Pop) to SSR August/September of 2007, and it was offered via an email (we had to respond by telephone) in early June before the trip, so I think that is more than likely a different situation than what is being discussed on here by the OP.:confused3 It (the upgrade) was a pleasant surprise by the way! :goodvibes

To the OP... try it! :) Call! :) What is the most that can happen? They can say you can go up, for the same amount of money/cost as if you were booking it right off at the desired level, or perhaps they can offer you an even better/cheaper deal!

This is Disney... one can always hope for a little magic! :wizard:
