Our cat sits in front of his food dish and cries - when it's full with food. He just wants someone to push him into the food dish. Then he stops crying and eats. Is that weird or what? Does any other cat in the universe do this?

I have to go to the kitchen with Simba when he wants to eat, and just pretend like I am putting more food into the already filled bowl, then he will start eating it. He is just a baby (a spoiled one at that) that needs his momma with him.:teeth:

My cat will only eat the juice from the cat food can. He won't eat the actual food....just the lap up the juice. It's strange because he's the size of a medium-sized dog. I don't know how he stays so big on juice.

I'd be interested to hear opinions on strange cat eating habits myself!!

Ha-ha, Simba just likes to lick the gravey from the can too, and then Cali eats the meat. He prefers to eat dry food.

That IS pretty weird, but kind of cute, too!

No, our two cats don't do that. When the food bowl is empty, though, Cinder wastes no time in talking a blue streak to tell you so and runs to the dish to show you!

They only get dry food and it's low-residue from the vet.

I have noticed lately too that Candi does her main eating when someone is actually watching her eat - or when someone is home. She's a bizarre cat - she is loving playing with the food that is on the ground also and not even eating it.

We have a seventeen year old tabby, Rascal, and every morning when my daughter is eating her bowl of cereal, Rascal sits by her chair. When she is finished she puts the bowl with left over milk on the floor for Rascal, but she has to put it exactly in front of him, almost on his paws. If the bowl is even an inch away from him, he'll walk away! And Rascal may be old, but watch out if anyone is opening a can of tuna in the kitchen. He hears it no matter where he is in the house and comes running and meowing like crazy! And he can tell whether or not it's a tuna can, and I know he can't possibly smell it from all parts of the house. We also have a three year old black and white kitty, Baby. Baby is very strange and has a lot of non-cat like behaviors. Many times we come upon him in places where we don't expect to see him, (in the linen closet, on top of a tv, behind the computer monitor), and it's sort of creepy. A lot of the time, we turn around and he's there just staring at us. It seems as though he morphs and hovers nearby. He's a sweet cat, just a little unnerving!

By the way, I love all the pictures of cats that people have posted. They are all so cute!

My only female cat Ally (I have 3 boys and the Princess) does this thing with cups of water. Now....I had one cat my whole life. I got her when I was 4, she had to be put to sleep when I was 24, so I was used to this one animal. My new female cat likes to drink water out of my cups. I don't know if she has trouble judging the depth or what, but she sticks her paw in to "test it." Of course, you know what THAT leads to. Yep...she spills it all over the place.

By the way, I have a Simba, also! He's not the one who licks the juice though. Simba will eat anything....Ally will not go near human food. It's almost like she thinks it's beneath her.

:p

I have two cats, a male (17 months old) and female (4 years old). The male eats like a wild beast! I don't think he even tastes the wet food I put down for him. The female is also a gravy licker but will eat a spoonful (maybe) of the meat. The male cat will race through his food with one eye on his plate and the other eye on my other cats plate! They both love their dry food so I'm not worried about the smaller eater.

As for weird habits, my male cat will stick his paw in the water bowl and suck on his paw. He has an all out holiday when I set up the running pet water fountain! He will come by with a wet head and I just know he's been sticking his head in the stream LOL

We have a house full of gravy lickers and 2 of them are also wetheads also!

Does anyone have those automatic water things? The ones where you will up a bottle or something and then it lets water out into the pan gradually. I can't have those. I tried one, but it had some kind of bobbin thing that Simba kept playing with. Of course, he would push it up and all the water would come rushing out. Then, we got one that looked like a regular bottle from a bubbler. No bobbin, nothing external. Simba managed to pull the entire bottle off the pan and dump the water out all over the floor. So, now I'm back to refilling the water pan morning and night.

Any help with this one???

ALmost every morning Princess Diamond does this. Whether the bowl is full or not, she meows and meows. You have to go in there and pet her head and stay there for a few minutes until she starts eating.

Cairo is the world's worst at yelling at me about her food. When we got Isis I messed up and put his food out where the others could also eat it. Well of course my 7 year old cat feel in love with the KITTEN food and she cusses me if I don't give it to her! They are all so funny! I love kitty threads!

I feel soooooooooooooo much better now because my cat is not the only one that does this....

no matter the bowl is full or not, my furbaby would meow and meow and lead me to her food bowl in the kitchen. I have to stay by her side and pet her until she starts eating.

my cat will knock his dish over and cover it up with the mat if we give him anything other than Fancy Feast grilled turkey:rolleyes:

I enjoyed reading all these finicky cat stories, so cute!!
My cat will meow and meow and walk around me and get underfoot, which leads me to think her food dish is empty so I'll go in there (with her underfoot all the way) and two out of three times there will still be food, but she won't eat it until I "stir it" for her. She only eats dry food so I just use my finger to "stir it" and then she'll eat. And this is only in the morning, she doesn't do it any other time of the day. Silly kitty. But I sure do love her!! :D
