Does anyone worry about a terror threat in the parks?

I don't mean to sound paranoid & I certainly don't want to ruin anyone else's trip. I have just been watching the news lately & there are high risk threats against the US. We will be in Disney in a little over a week & I have been so excited! I didn't even realize until recently that we will be there on the 9/11 anniversary. Now, I feel an overwhelming fear that I can't shake. I know we can't live in fear. I want to go & have a good time without worrying. Does anyone else feel concerned? I wonder if the parks have a plan in place for those kind of situations.

No. I am not paranoid.
What will be will be

in a word - NO.

I live in london - we have had one form or another of terrorism hit us many times over the last 30 years

never changes anything.

You gotta go sometime, might as well be at WDW:)

To put your mind at ease, after 9/11 happened, the United States went to two places for advice on what to do to improve security. The first was Israel's Mossad and the second was Disney. You are safer in Disney than almost any other place. They have layers of protection in place that the public never sees.

My understanding (though unofficial...) is that they have a very well-thought-out plan for such circumstances. I would feel safer there than many places.

Aware, yes.
Concerned, no.

This.

If I saw anything suspicious, I'd report it, but I suspect Disney security are paying more attention to other guests than I am... otherwise, I see no point in worrying. When we worry, they win. When we change our plans, they win. They want to create fear, so I'm not prepared to give in to that.

I guess it helps that I have spent a lot of time in London, subject of many, many terrorist attacks over the years, and they don't make much fuss about it. Let security do their jobs, enjoy your trip and try your best not to worry! :)

I can understand your concern, but you've gotta just let that go. Your options are:

1) Put fear into a little compartment in the back of your mind and have an awesome trip!

2) Go on your trip and worry what's around every corner, possibly even putting a damper on your family's trip (let alone yours) because you can't relax.

3) Don't go.

Please go and have a great time! Hopefully you will be too preoccupied by JOY to be bothered by thoughts of danger that you can't do anything about anyway. :)

Fearful - No.
Aware - Yes.

I'm always aware of my surroundings, regardless of the day or month or year. Things can happen on any day at any time or place. The best you can do is be aware and prepared for situations as they arise.

Yes, I know it can happen anytime & place. I don't know why I feel more concerned about certain places. I need to just get over it & have a good time. Thanks everyone for putting my mind at ease!

I am not worried at all & I wouldn't worry about the date 9/11. The terrorist don't really care about what the date is. They want to destroy, promote fear, & hurt everyone that doesn't believe exactly the way they do. They'll pick any day that they can do that, it doesn't matter. They are crazy. Also, Disney is very good at security. Beside, as crazy as those freaks are, I doubt their target would be a bunch of kids & crazed Disney parents.
And really, who would want to bring down the wrath of MICKEY MOUSE upon themselves!!!:scared:

We are there 9/11 too. I'm naturally quite anxious at whatever time of year I'm there but the date does make it worse somehow.

Just keep telling yourself it's incredibly unlikely anything will happen!

Its not something that I even think about. I flew a week after Sept 11th to Walt Disney World and I never felt safer. You have a better chance of getting hit by lightning than a terrorist attack at WDW.

I was there last year, and will be there this year at same time. No, not worried. If you cower, and stay home, then that gives them power over you, and that's exactly what these ISIS bungholes want.

Go. Have a good time with your family, and make happy memories.

My husband travels to high risk places every month, (aka Middle East) that I worry about, not going to the happiest place on earth.

I'm on the same page with AliceandAriel. Go, be aware of your surrounds and enjoy yourself. :thumbsup2

My mom told us as kids that if something were to happen, to follow the characters into the underground tunnels. I've told my kids the same thing. And then I enjoy my trip. I refuse to allow fear to ruin my trip.

You are so right! I will not let them win! I will go & have a good time! Thank you!
