Does anyone wear a slip anymore?

"Most?" Maybe most of the women you know. I know a lot of women who wear Spanx separates, but not the slips. Honestly, I don't see how something that fits so snugly could even be an effective slip. Doesn't it ride up?

I'm talking about the Spanx Short. That's what everyone I know wears.

I usually make sure whatever I buy has a built in slip. I can't stand them. I have nightmares about them showing. Plus my mother was adamant about them. Imagine having to deal with that during the mid-late 80s mini skirt craze. :lmao:

That sort of tight spandex slip normally will have a few lines of exposed rubber stitching running around the inside of the hem; that helps keep it from riding up. (The "shorts" type foundation garments have these, too, if the quality is good.)

Found the best of both worlds -- stopped wearing skirts and dresses years ago. :thumbsup2 No more showing more than you intended and no more static-y slip all bunched up around my waist while my skirt wasn't. ;)

This thread made me smile - my Mum and I had a conversation about this with my children (2 teenage boys) 2 days ago - they laugh when she told them that she would check that I was wearing a petticoat (slip) underneath before leaving the house.
My husband gets so fed up with me asking if you can see through what I am wearing - I told Mum that she had scarred me for life!!!
Yesterday evening I took her to bingo - and whilst sat waiting for the start a young girl, heavily pregnant walk past in a knit yellow jersey dress - not particularly thick and totally see through, but as she passed she had on a black thong - totally inappropriate, we just looked at each other and laughed.
I really can't understand how these women do not look in the mirror before leaving the house, or why their loved ones don't tell them. I would hope that DH would always tell me.

I wear dresses or skirts to work every day but only occasionally do I need a slip (i only have one white half slip right now). Most of my skirts are either lined or made of thicker material and don't require a slip for modesty. Today I am wearing a white denim skirt with no slip but I am certain you cannot see through it even in the brightest daylight because the denim is a thicker variety.
I don't mind wearing a slip, I'm usually cold in the office, even in summer, so the extra layer is no biggie but I just don't unless I think it is necessary.

Beige/nude color under white!!!!! It's not that difficult. :rotfl:

Unless you have pasty white skin where a white bra pretty much matches your skin :lmao::lmao::lmao:

I have a hard time finding a nude colored bra that "matches" my skin. Most of them are too dark for my whiteness and they they aren't any better than wearing a colored bra under a white shirt.

I don't ever wear a slip and I wear a lot of dresses and skirts. I get the underwear at Victoria's Secret that you can't see is on through clothes. It fits to the body in a way that becomes invisible.

-- I just learned the rule of "not wearing white underwear under white" a few weeks ago. I never knew. I always wore white, but never a thong.

-- I am also particular about my bra straps showing. I've gotten dresed for church and then changed my outfit, because a bra strap was showing. My husband doesn't get it, but yes, I do think it looks trashy.

White is never the answer. I am vampire-pale but I find pale pink or very light beige blends in perfectly when I'm wearing white (tops or bottoms).

Heck, beige/nude under anything! Or taupe, coffee, shell/rose, etc., - whatever most closely matches one's skin tone! Easier and more cost-effective - and yes, I realize this isn't the Budget Board :) - than assorted colors.

Ugh. Those things look so uncomfortable. I'd way rather wear a slip, particularly in warm weather, than wear Spanx.
I'd have said the same thing. Until yesterday. I ordered some Spanx camisoles from QVC, and I wore one for the first time. Surprisingly not uncomfortable, yet effective!

I agree for the most part except under certain black shirts (t-shirt, some stretchy knits, sweaters etc.). :)

OK, stupid question alert:

How can you tell if a female has "nothing" on under white pants or is wearing nude panties?

I live in white pants all summer - I wear a nude colored thong. So does that mean everyone that walks behind me is now assuming I'm au naturale??? :scared1:

I don't think I've ever been able to tell if a gal has a thong or nothing on under her dresses. Guess I'm not staring hard enough, lol.

And to answer the OP's question. Most of my skirts are lined. If I do wear one that has no lining, then yes, always a slip.

Well many times you can see the huge outline of her thong near the top of her pants, or worse yet, the top of her thong is higher than the top of her pants and her shirt is too short. Or, you see a little TMI when they are walking toward you. If the pants are white and there happens to be a, shall we say, darker patch in the front, well....you get my meaning.

All my panties are black, but I don't wear pale skirts or pants except for one pair of white capris that are such thick cotton that even black doesn't show through (believe me, I have checked many times).

I own beige, off-white and black bras so that I can wear the appropriate thing according to colour of my top. I also have a strapless bra, a halter bra and a plunging bra (for lower-cut tops). I hate any part of my bra to show.

This reminds me of when I was working - one day one of the girls had on light colored pants and "day of the week" undies. My boss asked one of the women to tell her "today is NOT Friday!". :lmao:

I'm wearing a half slip right now! I actually own five of them and at least that many whole slips (in different lengths). I only go without one if my skirt is already lined. My mom taught me that you shouldn't be able to see sunlight between your legs when wearing a skirt, nor should your skirt fall between your legs while walking.
