I LOVE tinsel on my Christmas tree! It looks so sparkley and pretty, but it's extremely hard to find...

Anyone else still put tinsel on thir Christmas tree?

My FIL does. I've seen tinsel for sale at Target also. I also see it at dollar stores.

I love tinsel, but had to stop using it after one too many incidents of cats swallowing it. it's one thing to have to clean out a sparkly litter box, but watching the cat walk around for a few days with just an inch or two trailing behind was more than I could stand...

I love tinsel! Tinsel makes the tree look old fashioned and festive. But with an artificial tree we haven't been using it. When you put it away for next year the tinsel doesn't come off easily and the leftover tinsel doesn't look so good the next year. We used to always use it on the real trees.

They sell it at Target and WalMart. I just saw it there.

Which is exactly why it won't be on our tree this year. We have a new kitty in the house(8m old) who already eats things he shouldn't(think he might be part goat), I don't need the vet bill from a tinsel overdose.

Same thing here. We always put it on real trees. This is our second year with an artificial tree, and we haven't put tinsel on it.

Not since I found it coming out of both ends of the cat...at the same time.

My mom used to put it on, but she doesn't anymore - I don't know why :confused3

I use garland because I'll admit, I'm to lazy to do tinsel  . My mom would spend a long time putting it on, and it always looked so nice :goodvibes .

I'm sure your try looks nice with your tinsel - you should take a picture of it and post it :teeth:

We do! We just decorated the tree last night with lots of tinsel!

I bought about 20 new boxes of tinsel at a yard sale for 10cents each about 10 years ago! It's the nice kind too!!

Aaahh, I see a theme emerging - cats + tinsel=not so good.

LOL :rotfl: That would be the reason we don't use tinsel either!

I grew up with tinseled trees, but since my wife doesn't care for it (no cats involved either), I haven't seen a tinseled tree for a long time. And since she is the one who usually decorates the tree (my job is getting it to the car, off the car, into the house, and set up in place - and then getting it out of the house) she pretty much has the final word on what goes on it (or in this case what stays off of it)

I am on the no tinsel train too because of the cats!

I stopped using garland a couple years ago, but tinsel is a must.
I have gold colored tinsel and it is heavier than the silver that
I grew up with on my tree. It gives a beautiful sparkle at night with the
lights on. I bought a few packages a few years back. Because it's heavy
I can take it off the artifial tree each year and reuse most of it. I just store
is in a folded over paper towel. It's the last thing on and the first thing off.

I have tinsel on our tree. I bought it at Wal-Mart. It wasn't hard to find at all and I still see it a lot on trees and in stores around here. :confused3

Cat, so no tinsel here either.

I went and bought that shiny silver star garland on wire at the Dollar store.
Cut it into 5 inch or so lengths, twirled it into a corkscrew around my finger and then make a hook and hang it.

It sparkles nicely, the cat wont eat it and I pack it up and use it the next year. FAR less messy as well.

We haven't used it since the seventies...our cat almost died because it wreaked havoc on her intestines.

I love how it looks on the tree, hanging from the cat's posterior..not so much.
:rolleyes1

I love the look of tinsel. But not the "newer" stuff. When it had lead in it it draped on the branches in a much better manner than the stuff without lead. I tried it for a few years after they took out the lead and decided to stop using it.
