Does anyone use tinsel anymore?

Icicle tinsel or tinsel garland? I use the icicle tinsel and love it! The tree has the old-fashioned look from my childhood. It is tedious though, this year it took about 2 hours to hand place each icicle on each branch.

Tinsel is a must on our trees! Gold on the big tree, silver with multi-colored center on the small one, and straight silver on my personal tree. :)

We haven't used it since the seventies...our cat almost died because it wreaked havoc on her intestines.

I love how it looks on the tree, hanging from the cat's posterior..not so much.
:rolleyes1

We used to use it all the time up until we got cats.I think it really dresses up the tree and makes it look pretty but being a cat owner I know how dangerous it is to have around. As the above poster stated it can be very serious if your cat digests it.

We used to use tinsel until I got my cat. I found him chewing on a piece and he started to choke. He was okay but I didn't trust it after that. I kinda like my tree better without it.

I use it! I think that a Christmas tree is supposed to sparkle. :thumbsup2 This year we used some pearlized expensive stuff (relatively speaking, it was $1.50 instead of 49 cents) and it is pretty, but next year I think we'll go back to old fashioned silver. One year we did all red lights and used red. My friends make fun of my "bordello" tree.

I do let my kids put it on by the handfuls if they want!!!!! I remember my mom taking all of the fun out of it by insisting that we put it on one string at a time. Talk about bah humbug!

I used both tinsel and icicles this year!
Now I'm really confused :confused3 ! Aren't those both the same things?

Like others, no, because of a cat that will devour anything that looks like tinsel - including thread, strings, shoelaces, dental floss, etc.

If I didn't have a pet, yes, I would because I love the way it looks on the tree.

It's not real safe around young children either. I grew up with icicles (tinsel) on our tree but DH will not let it in the house. Icicles and latex balloons are two things that are absolutely off limits. I do like the way icicles look though.

I've never used tinsel, my kids would have a hayday spreading it around. I also tend to avoid Easter Grass for the same reason.

Kitties in our house so there is no tinsel on the tree. I do love the way it looks and someday when there are no more felines, we will have it back once again.

Our garbage/refuse services will not take trees with tinsel on them. They can't be recycled. I haven't seen tinsel in the stores here for years.

I can't have it. It is really, really messy. It doesn't biodegrade or settle well in landfills. My cat will eat it. My "typical" child will dress her ponies in it. My autistic child will do God knows what with it. But... I still love the way it looks and remember it fondly. Sigh. ;)
