Does anyone use the grocery game list to save money on groceries?

I don't really write anything down. If you want to start keeping your sales flyers you should start to see repeats at 8 or 10 weeks. It's hard to explain. Like right now the capris suns have either been $2 or BOGO. This goes on every August & January. I stock up enough that I don't usually have to buy them for lunches other than those times. They might go on sale inbetween but I don't notice it.

That's a good idea..thanks I am now saving circulars!!!! At least there is only one store I like to shop at in the Latham NY area!!!

This is just a bit of an update on my Sunday shopping thread. Recap: a store that is not on GG was having double and triple coupons and they had a GM deal if you buy $20 in General Mills products you get a $5 catelina AND the participating GM products were on sale. When I went to get my cereal, they were out of the Cheerios, which is what we always eat. I got another kind of cereal anyway to get the GM deal. I went back yesterday since CS said they had Cheerios back in stock, returned the other cereal and got Cheerios. Plus, I got ANOTHER $5 catelina. :Pinkbounc

So I reviewed very carefully my GM purchases this morning. I knew I got the Hamburger Helpers for free and the GM cereals for ridiculously cheap, but I didn't realize exactly how good of a deal I got. Here's the specifics:

7 GM cereals 3/$5 - 2 cpns for $1/3 - $5 catelina = $0.67 per box
3 Hamburger Helpers 1/$1 - 3 $0.50/1 doubled = FREE!!!
1 BC cake mix, 2 BC frosting 1/$1 - 2 $0.50/1 frost doubled - Buy 2 frostings get a cake mix free = FREE!!!
1 Chex mix, 1 Bugles 1/$1 - $0.50/2 doubled - 0.70/1 bugles = $0.15 per box
2 BC fruit snacks 1/$1.67 - 2 $0.50/1 doubled = $0.67 per box

I paid $6.33 for all of that. That is not even counting my second $5 catelina. I really only paid $1.33 plus tax! :earseek:

I take back all the complaining I did. I will spend the time to do this kind of deal in the future.

I did realize something that will be helpful in the future. I thought I had to get $20 in participating GM products with the sale price. I realized when I returned and bought the Cheerios it was $20 of the shelf price. I could have only bought 6 cereals (to use my 2 $1/3 coupons) to qualify for a catelina. That would have made my cereal $0.50 a box. I also didn't need to buy all the other GM products that I did. I probably still would have because of the great savings. I'm sure if I would have added the other GM products together the shelf price for those alone would have been over $20. I could have checked out separately and gotten 2 catelinas.

Live and learn!

YEAH!!!! Isn't this addicting! LOL! The adrenaline rush from getting a great deal is amazing. Cheap habbit. ;)

I joined GG for the 4 week trial but canceled because I just didn't see much savings (I was a couponer and preferred card user before joining and had a 3 month stash of coupons), ended up buying things I normally wouldn't (granola bars, breakfast bars, etc.) and don't have a store that doubles coupons. I'm glad that it works for many of you but I'll just stick to Aldi's. Good luck to all!!!

Oh, I can definitely see how seasoned couponsers don't really need GG. Me, on the other hand, just bought what I wanted when I wanted it and never clipped a coupon. This is a great learning experience for me.

Yup, you sound like me! I did shop the sale flyers but only well enough to go "oh, that's on sale, I'll buy that!" never clipped a coupon either. I did have the store card for savings but GG is really helping me and it's easy. Even reading the post about GM cereal and betty crocker was too much for me. I like it laid out all plain and simple and then I can do it.

I think I want to take advantage of some B1G1's at Albertson's--but it requires the card. Can anyone get one??

I think I am forever destined to a max value of 50% off of my order.....my radar is going off consistently for those.

Well I subscribed to this thread because I thought I could play the game for W-D, but they are in the process of closing our only store this week. Everything is either 30% or 50% off and today I went and got $169 worth for $119. I was so excited I want to go back tomorrow! So everyone check your W-D to find out if/when it's closing!

Mine better not close! I love my WD. It's new and clean and beautiful and cheap!

Our WD ad listed store closings....I know mine isn't on it. I have to say I have been very impressed with the longevity of the produce. Way back when I used to work in a WD--this was not the case.

There are a couple of WDs here in town you couldn't pay me to shop at. Dirty, yucky area, no brand selection, etc, etc. But the one by me is a WD Marketplace and was only built a few years ago. I just love it! I haven't heard anything about ours closing so we're probably safe.

Here is the response I received from Publix:

Thank you for your email. We appreciate our customers taking the time to contact us. In regards to your inquiry, we do not currently offer a double or triple coupon program in our Florida stores, however, we do accept other supermarket competitors coupons.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact us. If we can be of any further assistance regarding this matter, please either call our Consumer Relations toll-free number at 1-800-242-1227, write us at the Publix Super Markets Corporate Office, PO Box 407, Lakeland, FL 33802, ATTN: Consumer Relations, or contact us at our website, publix.com and mention your reference number, # 311488.

Sincerely,

Leslie Spencer

The WD in our town closed years ago. It was always dirty & the products were out of date...boxes, cans, & meds. :( The one the next town over about 25 minutes away was ok and I did enjoy their triple .50 coupon deals a couple years ago. I lost respect for them & the manager there last year. I ordered 8 cases of the quaker instant oatmeal express containers. They were priced .98 each at the time & I had 50/1 coupons so they would be free when doubled. They didn't get them in until 2 weeks later. When I went in to pick them up they rang up at 1.19 each. I looked at the shelf tag & they had changed it. I told them they could keep them. The manger called me to come pick them up and I told him that I ordered them at the price of .98 each. He was rude & I told him that I wouldn't set foot in his store again...and I didn't.

Unfortunately none of the sites previously mentioned lists Cincinnati on their sites.
I usually shop Aldis and Biggs but there is a Kroger near me also. Even with my plus card and coupons Biggs can usually beat Kroger prices. Aldi usually beats them both.
But I wanna play the games you guys in other areas get to play! :earboy2:
Any suggestions?
TIA
Mrs Ohio Tony

I think WDs definitely differ by area. I much preferred Publix when I was in Florida. Now that I am in Louisiana, WD is pretty big and the stores are nice. Big selections, good produce, clean, etc. The only other big grocery store chain in my area is pretty local to LA and MS. I don't have access to all these other stores people talk about such as Publix, Kroger, Jewel, Alberstons, Aldi's, etc.

Well, there are Super Walmarts but I just hate going there.

Just back from a "restocking trip" at my market (Price Chopper, Latham,NY) They are not on the Grocery GAme.

OK everyone Total before disc/coupons..$322.36...savings 151.25 paid 171.11!!!! I know it is below my usual goal of 50% but I had a 100 items..meats, veggies, fresh produce.etc...I was thrilled.

I saved so much that they had to call over a MGR because the svgs exceeded their approval...the mgr was nice...he said Good Job!!

Tonight I am off to Pittsfielf MA to get double/triple coupons (all the coupons I used were over 1 dollar and do not qualify for doubling).
:jumping1: :jumping1: So I am really getting the opportunity to save for our up coming WDW trips!!! No wonder why people can not understand how we can go so often. I probably have enough food for 2 months (-fresh veggis and milk)....best buy (for wdw was those little packs you put in your water bottle...Got 2 boxes of 20(tl40) rasp.icetea 4C for $4...that's 10cents each...MArch 07 exp.so saving for next 2-3 trips!!!!!!

Thanks every one for all the help :sunny:

Just back from Pittsfield
Total before discounts/coupons 114.98-68.09=46.89 for another 54 items I now have enough Ketchup, chicken nuggets, toliet paper, shampoo, poptarts, Yght,Ziploc bags, etc for the year(or at least several months)...now back to spending a couple of dollars for meat, bread, milk. I even let my neighbor come over and raid my pantry!!!
So puts my day at just over a 50% savings!!!!

I live in the Cincinnati area as well...there is a site called The Grocery Advantage. I heard of it on the WCPO (John Matarese section) website. I believe the address is just www.thegroceryadvantage.com

It serves Cincinnati, using Kroger, Remke, and Meijer. They offer a free one week trial, and then you can extend the trial for one month for only $1. I am still in my monthly trial. Haven't decided if I will continue with it or not, but thought you might want to check it out.

Thank you so much Wshupnaster! I'll give it a try. I feel like such a LOSER. I just got back from Biggs and spent $158.00 for 100 items that won't even get us through to next payday. I'll still need to go to Aldis and spend about $60. That should hold our family of 4 for two weeks. I need all the help I can get!
