Does ANYONE use points to stay weekends?

We don't look at it as week-end points or mid-week points. We just book what we want and use points for whatever.

this thread shows just how DVC can be appealing to just about every kind of vacationer...

it gives the flexability to handle those who come once every other or every couple of years who use points and only points no matter what the points season, day of the week or disney ride refurbishment schedule...

plus those who go many times in one year ( :bounce: green w/ envy)... can maximize their stays

and everyone in between...

thanks for sharing your ideas and opinions on this and the other DIS boards...

We just look at the point cost per week and go with that. I usually don't even pay attention to the per night cost.

I stay on points during the weekend. When I figure out a vacation, I know it's 85 points for a std view studio at the BWV in Jan. (85 points per week-- not 9 per weeknight, 20 a night on the weekend.) I don't look at the daily total--I look at the big picture. :goodvibes I bought points so I would have no more hotel bills!

That's how we looked at it to. When we go to WDW, it's for a week. However, we're trading uot for an Alaskan cruies in 06, so to save points when we do the marathon, we will not arrive until Saturday.

1) Do the resorts actually seem less busy on weekends? 2) Should Disney do something to "even out" the point system so that it resort vacancy is pretty much equal throughout the week (and theoretically more availability for people wanting reservations)>??

Dont make the pts equal for weekends and weekdays, but something sensible like weekends 30-40% more instead of 80%-90% more.

1) No. I think the reason they get more points for weekends is that the resorts are MORE busy on weekends. I think its true, too. I definitely see more people milling around the lobby on Friday and Saturday than I do on others.

2) Maybe. But I believe the deals in DVC is that if they take away points from one place they have to add them back in somewhere else. That is, if the reduce the points required for weekend stays they'll just increase the ones needed for weekday stays. I'm not exactly anxious to see that happen!

We stay on points over weekends occasionally. That was in our plan when we bought in, and we picked the number of points accordingly.

We stay (weekends included) on points. No, I'm happy with the point structure. Remember if weekend points go down, weekday points will go UP. The week will still cost the same number of points.

The hassle of changing rooms outweighs the high cost of point for the weekend nights, for our family anyway. Like others have said look at the weekly point total, not nightly. Any shift would be balanced throughout the week, so the week would still cost the same number of points.

Having said that, we did book weekend nights on DVC discount cash basis in the past. It was a savingsover points, was seamless, and only required an additional check in for the cash nights. It did not require a room change, as all three reservations were linked, (points, cash, points stay).

Saved a couple hundred dollars by doing this. Seemed worth it for the minor inconvenience of having to recheck in twice more.

And as others have stated, the point structure keeps those within a couple of hours driving distance taking all the long wekends. I think it was really incredible foresight of DVC to consider this.

We have always used points on the weekends. Until I found these boards this past fall I would never have even thought to do anything otherwise.

We stay 9 - 10 nights thats 2 weekends, to much trouble to move for the friday & saterday stay of our vacation we bought the amount of points we thought we would need ,we added on once and found that 300 was just perfect we get to the the BW and we don't move :cool1:

We tend to go for about 19 nights and to off set the points stay the first 5 nights in a studio on a different DVC resort. Either BWV's,WL or BCV then move on the Sunday to our home OKW for 12 nights in a 1 bed. I could never do it the other way around as it would be so hard to go from a 1 bed to a studio. ................:

That's a good idea - I thought of doing it the other way round but your way makes more sense

Thanks :umbrella:
