My DD and DH take them. DD is autistic and is either constipated or has diarrhea if she isn't taking them. She is still usually constipated but her biomedical Dr wants me to increase the amount she gets so when I do that things may change. DH on the other hand has the loudest stomach in the world! Since he as started taking them his stomach is quieter and he doesn't complain about it as much also reports less bathroom trips. It also has helped with his eczema. I would say give it a try, everybody is different.
I started taking them a couple of weeks ago after having to take three antibiotics at the same time for a bad infection. I think it does help get your body back in balance. I've heard that the ones that have to be refrigerated are better. I did take some regular ones that were supposed to have live bacteria but find the refrigerated ones are better. It might be psychosomatic, though. Good luck!
My doctor had me start taking Align last week. Too soon to see if it helps, but I'm hoping. In fact I'm off to see my doctor in a few minutes to get a note for work. I've only worked 20 hours in the last month due to my IBS "incidents" and no more sick time is left. They were going to lay me off, but said if I get a note from the doc they'd put me on short term disablity.
Yes, I take the ones that must be refrigerated as I heard they are the only kind that work?? I bought the store brand from Whole Foods. Not sure if it's the pills, but my stomach hasn't been as "active" lately. I am also giving them to my asperger's kid as he has chronic constipation and all the other otc stuff doesn't help.
It would be nice to have a trip to Disney next week where I am not constantly worrying about my stomach...
Hmmm, this is interesting. My DD13 has **always** had stomach/digestion issues, and I wonder if giving her a supplement of this kind would help. The poor kid has had to come home from sleepovers and has had to endure interminable ER visits... if this would resolve things like that she and I would both be much happier!
I take the Digestive Advantage IBS formula daily and have had only 1 flair up since I started taking it. It is not refrigerated but does seem to work. It is found in the med. section with the Lactaid and the Tums.
Yes.. I take Digestive Advantage Gas Defense Formula - twice a day - per my doctor..
I also have IBS - which last year suddenly turned from the "C" variety to the "D" variety - with huge amounts of bloating, gas, cramps, etc.. I was literally trapped inside the house for 11 months or so until we finally got to the bottom of my problems.. (Tests; try this; try that; - until I hooked up with my wonderful gastroenterologist.. More tests, but at least we found a solution!!)
Anyhow - there were several things going on.. For one, I'm a "mouth breather" and during the night the air that I was sucking in was in turn filling my intestines with air - thus some of the bloating.. The solution to that was Breathe Right Strips every night.. Next came the probiotics to help with the "D", additional bloating, gas, and cramps.. DAGDF is specifically designed to stop the gas before it accumulates.. Works like a charm!! It has also "regulated" my problem and I am no longer a prisoner in my home..
I would give it a try.. You certainly have nothing to lose.. Oh - I also wanted to mention that the year before last, I was using/eating Activia daily.. It worked for several months and then just stopped working entirely..
