Does anyone struggle with mod vs deluxe

DH likes to stay in a deluxe resort and part of it makes no difference to me where we stay as long as I am there :>

Anyway I really enjoy the calmness of PO Riverside (Dixie), but then I feel like because I am not in a deluxe I a missing something ( don't ask me what though). The only negative I do not like about Dixie is the location....

We spend a lot of our time at MGM and Epcot so the boardwalk area hotels are great for that, but I also like to stay on the monorail line too. There is just something about taking that monorail to the magic :>

I should also mention we always go in Sept so I usually get a great rate no matter what hotel we stay in.

Does anyone else prefer a mod over a deluxe (not factoring in location)

Hi Leigh! We stayed at the CBR in 2000 and then the AKL in 2002. I thought the CBR was nice......but then I went deluxe! What a difference! I loved the idea of sitting in a jacuzzi after the parks and relaxing. Deluxes usually have balconies, mods don't....this was a real plus for me! My husband and I were able to enjoy alittle privacy after the kids fell asleep. You just feel more pampered in a deluxe hotel and it gives you more of that "I'm on vacation" kind of feeling. I just felt disappointed that we couldn't enjoy more time at the AKL, I didn't necessarily feel this way about the CBR. But its like everything else, before I stayed at a deluxe I loved the CBR. Now that I've done a deluxe....I can never go back to a moderate!

BUT.....Just being on property is wonderful no matter where you stay! Good luck w/your decision.

Kathy,

Good point about the balconies...we had a double one and then another one (so 1 big one and 1 small one) last year at the dolphin..it was awesome

We are DVC members and our kids are use to staying at the BWV in a 2br villa. Our last trip in November, we stayed at PO riverside our first night to save points and because our flight got in late. (We saved $300 in airfare by taking the Friday afternoon flight instead of the Sat morning). Anyway, the kids were all scared of PO because they thought it was so isolated. We had to walk in the dark through the "swamp" to our room. The resort must have been pretty empty because we didn't see anyone else on our LONG walk. My kids really missed the "excitement" of the BC & BW. They like all the people around and the activities on the Boardwalk.

They also wanted to know where the rest of the room was. DVC definitely spoils you. We had to explain that most rooms only have beds & a bathroom. They were very glad to move to the BCV in the morning.

The one thing I noticed was that during our trip the CMs were MUCH nicer at PO. They all seemed to do extra things for you. For example, we had a late dinner in the food court and the CM gave us Mickey straws free for the kids and only charged us for some of the drinks. They also got a large van for us and drove us to the BCV with our stuff. We were not expecting this! Everyone there was wonderful! The BC staff was ok, but nothing special!

Leigh,

Last year we tried PORS, usually we do deluxe. There was a great room rate at PORS and I was nervous that I would be disappointed. PORS is beautiful, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there or recomment it -- but only at a great rate.

I went knowing I wouldn't have a balcony, interior halls, queen size bed. The extras.

We were going to do 4 days at WDW, a short trip, so it wasn't that bad. The food court was super and reasonable, more selections than food courts at the deluxes. I liked having the quiet pools, too.

As far as the WDW feeling. I think you get more of a feeling at the deluxes because you enter and leave from the lobby.

Rather than at the moderates you leave your room and take your car or bus.

I personally prefer the deluxes (when we can afford them)!

We don't stuggle, because we just go with what we can afford at the time. There are so many beautiful resorts, it is fun to stay somewhere different with each trip. In fact, I would choose any of the moderates in which we stayed over staying at the WL. As for the Contemporary, we loved that. Can't beat that convenience, and we love the energy, and the fact that it was one of the original resorts, and "Mickey's" resort!

Maybe if you and your husband can't decide on one, you could split your stay between a moderate and a deluxe!

I struggle with it everytime, mostly trying to justify paying 3X more for a deluxe over a moderate. But for me , the resorts are just as much part of the vacation as the parks are, so I try to plan my trips around a good rate at one of the deluxes. I agree with the previous poster - in addition to the location & balconies , there's just a huge difference for me being able to walk from your room to a boat or monorail & walking out your door onto a parking lot or bus stop. The Deluxe hotels are so well themed that you truly feel like your transported thousands of miles away from every-day life.

eeyore,

What didn't you like about the WL? How was the transportation?

We usually book the moderates but we have stayed at WL and CR. Neither one impressed us all that much. WL is beautiful but I felt like that was the only thing it had going for it. I would never stay at CR again. Just didn't like the decor at all and it had a distinctive smell to it too. The balconies are wonderful but on the other hand I hate interior hallways. So basically I agree with eeyore0062. I like to try a different resort each time because they are all so beautiful and each one offers something different. Then after each stay we can compare it to past trips and decide what we did and didn't care for.

We split our stay between CBR and YC. I was worried it would be a hassle but it actually added to the excitement of the vacation. YC was totally new to us so it was a thrill. And there is a certain relaxation feeling of CBR...I love the lush plants and the grounds. A split stay is great and I would do it again, but always take the Deluxe last!!!
