Does anyone NOT like O'hana?

We won't return to 'OHana either. We've been twice with the children(both times, great tables) but the food was just okay and the service was mediocre. The kids thought the games were pretty good but at 7 and 8, I'm not too sure that they wouldn't feel a bit old for them. You may enjoy it, many do. Good luck w/your decision. Threehearts

Why do people keep thinking you sit with strangers? I have seen the comment/question regarding Ohanas several times...

I think it all depends on what kind of food you like. It's mostly meat, so if you're not a meat person, you won't enjoy it. We had a wonderful exp, but we are meat people... some of it didn't wow us, like the steak cuts and pork, but the turkey and shrimp made up for it. You can't possibly eat it all, anyways. Plus, the appetizers are filling just in themselves...

This is the one restaurant my husbadn tells EVERYONE about when they ask about our trip, it was def fitting for our family. We don't have children, and were NOT amused by the annoying lady that did the games, so that part didn't matter to us... we just got good service, tons of food, and quick seating.

I can totally see how it wouldn't be for some people.

As in speaking about the skewers, we sat right near the fire pit and watched the wait staff carry them to the tables, I didn't think anything of it... none of them carry them far. And it is normal in this type of restaurant, in WDW or elsewhere.

Have gone there 3 times since '96 and have been less and less impressed each visit. Last year, we felt incredibly rushed. The food is not bad, quantity sure is there, but it's not a place we would consider a "must do".

We went for the first time earlier this month. We absolutely LOVED it. We thought the food was delicious - especially the wings and shrimp wontons as far as the appetizers go. The steak we had was PERFECTLY cooked medium and very juicy. The turkey was the MOST FLAVORFUL turkey I think I've ever had. Maybe we got lucky. The pork was a little dry, and the shrimp a little overcooked, as they were difficult to peel.

The CMs at Ohana were also very accommodating as we were 45 minutes late for our PS, and they still honored it without a problem. (We had a CM from POFQ call and see if there was a later PS, and there was not; so he called Ohana and told them we were coming but would be late.)

Also - we are two adults, no kids. We sat in the back, away from the fire pit, which was fine with us because it was probably a little quieter.

It was our favorite meal of all.

We went several years ago and vowed never to go again. We are not big meat eaters so for us the meal was overwhelming because it was mostly a protein dinner. By the end of dinner we were begging for some veggies to eat.

Maybe a dumb question... I have PS for the Ohana, and appreciate all the comments...

as for the food, are their "dips" for the meat (teryaki, ginger etc?) I'm a meat lover, so I'll probably do ok, but I'm also a 'dipper'!!

I really like 'Ohana ... but I have to say that I didn't really care for the turkey or the pork. I thought they was too dry. I really liked the appetizers and the shrimp

We tried Ohana on our Dec 2003 trip. We thought it was ok - probably a 7 out of 10. I liked the appetizers, most of the meat was dry though. I really enjoyed the dark setting.

I would probably return - but not for 4 or 5 trips from now.

I had a question to add:

We tend to like the gourmet restaurants like Citricos, Jiko's, etc. We can't manage huge portions of food.

We are planning to stay at the Polynesian next trip and I can't decided on whether to try O'Hana's or not for one of our dinners. We definitely like the Kona Cafe and intend to have several meals there.

I am wondering if part of the appeal of O'Hana's is the all-you-can-eat feature? I'm certainly not putting anyone down for liking that style but for us it isn't a main selling point. It's just my sister and I and we don't eat large portions. We also don't have children so the games wouldn't appeal to us. Is the atmosphere and food good enough to draw us in?

We do like the Liberty Tree Tavern dinner. We like the atmosphere and the food has been good for us. We ended up there by chance before an e-ride night and really were surprised how well we liked it - now it's become a definite must - do for us. The character interaction isn't important to us but has always been an added bonus since they tend to be fun loving.

For those who don't care for the food at O'Hana's - how would you compare the experience to LTT? (I realize the types of food are different but what was your overall impression of both places?)

I don't really like it at all but DH loves it. I thought the atmosphere was fun and seeing the fireworks was cool but I didn't care for the food but I'mm a very picky eater.

The turkey was amazing and I'm no turkey fan! The appetizer bowls were great, the steak and shrimp were awesome. The only thing I didn't like was the pork. I was there for my 18th birthday in 2001 and it was my favorite dining experience ever at WDW. I will be there for a second time in August for my cousin's 13th birthday. This place is off the hook! The only place that has come close for me has been Concourse Steakhouse (another place that is undeservedly bashed).

I agree. That's why I wasn't bowled over by 'Ohanas. I prefer a sit-down meal to buffets; I certainly hope I don't sound like a snob when I say that I prefer Citricos and Jiko's and the California Grill.

That said, we can't always afford fine dining. I love Kona Cafe and it certainly doesn't qualify as fine dining.

We absolutely love the food at 'Ohana, but we ARE big eaters and DO appreciate the "bang for your buck" aspect of it. It is an outstanding value considering the all-you-can-eat feature, the fun atmosphere, and we think the food IS very tasty (there's lots of variety, too, especially when you add the sauces). I don't know if I'd eat here without either kids or a big appetite. Would probably stick with Kona, Jiko and Citricos.

Just to clarify, 'Ohana is NOT a buffet...it is a sit-down meal served family-style (no menu from which to select your own food, you just get what they got, like Garden Grill and LTT)

We had our rehearsal dinner at 'Ohana, and my husband and I were underwhelmed. I'm not a big carnivore, so the meat on a stick didn't appeal to me - I filled up on the shrimp wontons. We both found the meat to be excessively dry, and I had difficulty getting the shells off of the shrimp, because part of the shell was seared onto the meat. On the other hand, my brother and his wife, who were part of our wedding party, raved about the turkey, and said that it was the best they'd ever had. Obviously my father & mother-in-law enjoyed it, since they chose that location for the rehearsal dinner.
We did enjoy the fireworks view, and the CMs really played up the wedding aspect, but there are so many restaurants at WDW that we really enjoy, so we won't be returning.

I don't care for it--but not because of the food, which we found pretty good and plentiful. It's the antics and the noise that bothered me.

We ate there once and didn't care for it. It was ok, but we didn't like the seasoning on the food, kinda ginger-like taste. They tried to make everyone feel welcome but it went too far, the servers where constantly waving two fingers and saying "hey cuz". For me it got old real quick, I like to keep to myself and a "how you doing?" is all I need to hear from the servers unless it's a question about my drink or food. We did get a nice window view of the MK fireworks and they had some activities for the kids. I got plenty to eat. Unless it's free I won't eat there again.
