Does anyone like the San Angel Inn???

We were just there for dinner at the end of June. This was the only meal we had at Disney all week long that we were disappointed in. The menu is VERY limited. Was difficult for our 3 kids (11,8 and 3) to find something on the menu that sounded good. We might be a little biased as we are from Texas and are used to having our choice of outstanding Mexican food restaurants to choose from (everything from Tex-mex to interior Mexican). The atmosphere was fun; we were seated right by the river and could watch the boat rides going by, but it wouldn't be worth going back in our opinion. Service was barely acceptable. I hope you do try it, though, and have a much better experience. Good luck!

We have eaten there many times over the past few years and always enjoyed our meal. And we have always had very good service. Definitely give it a try for yourself. I think their filet is outstanding.

I have to say this place gets more passionate reviews (of the negative variety) than about any other place in WDW (well Tony's probably gets more heat and hate). I was once called stupid by a poster who just couldn't believe I liked the place. But I do, and so apparently do others!

I've never eaten there but just saw such a spectacular shot by a great photographer on these boards that I had to share! If you decide to go for it, enjoy the atmosphere--I love the Mexico pavilion.

We have never eaten there but DH is dying to try it so I caved and booked a lunch reservation for our Oct trip.

We like it. But, be aware -- the food is not Tex-Mex, which is the Mexican food most people are used to. It's much more like the food we had in Mexico City. Very good, but less spicy -- more subtle.

Exactly. It is the San Angel Inn, not the San Antonio Inn.

Not a problem for us since my father lived in Mexico for eight years and knows the "real" Mexican food and so would never allow us to eat more than once at any Mexican place that was more Tex-Mex than true Mex. We have one place here in town that is authentic and we never go anywhere else.

We loved the food there, but the service was so bad we haven't been back. We waited forever for a table even with an ADR, it was so dark we couldn't see our food, and our waiter never came back to check on us. DS dropped his fork and we never could get another one. I would love to go back for the food, but I can't talk anyone in my family into giving it another try.

I just read a few of the other posts. I'll agree that this isn't typical Taco Bell Mexican food. It is more authentic - except for the chips and dip, unless Tostitos is based out of Mexico.

lunch should be ok. good rec about taking kids on the ride if you have to wait. food was decent in the past. haven't been in a number of years. the backdrop is very pretty. i think it sounds better to go for lunch than dinner. have fun!!

DD and I have a lunch reservation for our upcoming trip. I let her chose and she just loves the atmosphere in there so that's what we picked. We aren't too picky.. we're just hoping for decent food so I'm not too worried. I guess we just won't know until we try it

Our last visit was June '07. The food was tasty, our server engaging, and the atmosphere - as always - outstanding. I would recommend the San Angel Inn without hesitation. I would imagine so many factors go into any one guest dining experience, that anyone could have a bad experience anywhere on property. Luckily, we've done ok at the Mexico pavilion !

I really like the food I have had at the San Angel Inn. My favorite is the Sopa Azteca. mmmmmmm. They do a really good job, though I would not put them in the running for my favorite World Showcase restaurant.

Be careful though that you do not confuse the San Angel Inn (which is inside the Mexico pavilion) with the Cantina de San Angel that is outside. The Cantina is Mexican fast food A la Taco Bell. However in my opinion the quality at the Cantina makes Taco Bell seem line five star fine dining. So skip the Cantina and make sure when someone tells you their opinion about the San Angel they are talking about the sit down restaurant inside the Mexico pavilion.

we went last jan for lunch, because we couldn't get reservations for anywhere else. i was disappointed in the food. the atmosphere is awesome, but we get better mexican food up here in massachusetts than we had there. it was also very expensive for 3 really small tacos. the food wasn't bad it was just bleh. basically it didn't have me wanting more. it's actually the only restaurant that i don't really plan on returning to.

that being said, you may really like it, the only way to know is to try.

We went to San Angel Inn back in May 2008.
We really enjoyed our meal. Atmosphere was good, food good, and we had a really nice attentive older gentleman for a server.

The meal would have been pricey, but we were on the Dining Plan, so it worked out.

I would go back there again.

please tell me someone out there in the great land of DIS likes this place. We booked lunch ressies there after reading in the unoff. guide that it is a great place for preschoolers due to the atmosphere. Someone, anyone, have a positive review to make me feel better??????

LOL @ "Great Place for pre-schoolers!" First up, the atmosphere is OK, but really loud! And it's dark. Very dark. And it's very cramped. And there's the low roar that represents the giant volcano that's about to erupt any minute now.

Oh, and the food's Mexican, but there's no hamburger or ground beef anywhere in the place! It's definitely not Taco Bell.

How's that a great place for preschoolers?

Let me tell you about a place that's perfect for preschoolers. Whispering Canyon Cafe. It's loud. Kids running around that place playing racing games. You color and the waiter would stick your work of coloring art on display. Oh, and all you can drink milkshakes!

But I'm sorry: after the oooohhs and aaahhhs of the pretty volcano in the background, you're just left with "just OK" Tex-Mex. And some of it is just plain-old bad. Like the Flan. Try it. It's almost an expectorant.

I also made an ADR for DD and I mostly because of the atmosphere....even if we only get an appy and dessert we will still have a good time.

In 1987 when I first went to the Mexico pavillion and road the old boat... I was amazed. I liked the atmosphere at the San Angel Inn and I knew I wanted to eat there some day. Of course what I didn't know is that it would take 21 years!!! This was the only ADR I made with ME in mind.
