Does anyone know what the "formula" is/was for buying park tickets at UT?

I remember way back when......there was a way to buy a park ticket at Under Cover Tourist and then apply that to upgrading to a DVC AP. It supposedly was "cheaper" than just buying the DVC AP. Could someone refresh my memory about this. I can't remember. Also does this work for discounted Magic Your Way park tickets purchased at Shades of Green? Not the yearly Salute park ticket that they have.

THANKS

Select the ticket from Undercover Tourist having the price tag of the largest number of dollars savings from gate price for the same kind of ticket but with an overall price less than the price of the kind of ticket you ultimately want (Disney Vacation Club annual pass or whatever). When you get there, use the ticket for a little while and then do the upgrade.

Be sure to figure out the price including tax for both UT and Disney when making the comparison. Note that the policy is that no change is returned if the ticket you submit has a greater value than the ticket you want.

Due to some idiosyncrasies occurring at the ticket booths during upgrades to AP we are cautiously suggesting upgrading in two moves, first to add a day or two while in the park (provided you don't exceed the value of the desired AP) and, a day or two later, upgrade to AP.

Under a few conditions a UT ticket costing slightly more than the kind of ticket you want may turn out to be a better deal but some trial and error although not that complex math is needed to figure this out.

I did this last June. Purchase the 6 day PH ticket. Make sure you use it at least once!! Get through that turnstile. Then go to Guest Relations and tell them you would like to upgrade to the DVC AP. I also asked if the CM knew how to "bridge" the ticket. I didn't ask in a nasty way of course but I wanted to make sure I wasn't wasting my time. The transaction went off without a hitch.

I used Guest Relations at Epcot near Spaceship Earth.

Did you use UT?

I did this in October, using park-hoppers purchased from UT and upgrading/bridging them to the discounted DVC PAP. Like the other posters have said, I calculated out the difference of what I should pay, including taxes, and the CM was right on the money ! We used Guest Relations at DTD, and did it for 3 people/passes.

I'm new to all this as I just closed on my dvc contract today. Can you please tell me what the savings amount would be using this method? So much to learn! Thanks in advance.

There isn't any set ticket that is the one to purchase. The undercover website shows show the discount is to the gate price so just purchase the ticket with the greatest discount that costs less than the AP you wish to purchase.

Use the ticket you purchase at least once and then upgrade at GS or a ticket booth. They will give you credit for the full gate price towards the AP although you should also know what you expect to pay just in case the CM forgets to bridge the price.

The savings will be whatever the discount is on the ticket you buy from Undercover and can sometimes be $20 or more dollars per ticket. If you have a family the savings can add up quickly.

Thanks for the info! Very helpful.

Okay it looks like ..if I figured this up correctly....that the 5 day hopper is the best ticket to buy to get the most savings toward upgrading to a DVC AP. UT has the price for a 5 day hopper at 324.95, Disney has it for 346.13 for a savings of 21.18. SO....I would use the ticket then go to the window and have them upgrade to the DVC AP which with tax is 452.63. They will HOWEVER give me the 346.13 to go towards the DVC AP correct???? I would have to pay an additional 106.50 to do this upgrade? After it is all said and done...I would get the AP for 431.45?
