I'm getting so annoyed with these people. I've been on the DoNotCall list for at least 4 or 5 years. Yet I get the same calls everyday and multiple times a day. Over and OVER... Don't these people have a life. I can't believe this works and they make money off these scams. I do my part and report them whenever I can but I was curious if it really works.

THANK goodness for Caller ID!

Eventually. I have read of some companies being fined for violations of the Do Not Call List.
Recently the feds just came down big time on companies placing robo-calls for auto warranties. The feds issued an injunction against the companies involved and even froze their assets. Since then the calls for auto warranties have seemed to have dried up, only to be replaced by calls offering lower interest rates on your credit cards.
These companies take great pains to hide their identities. And of course everything they are selling is a scam, a company that has total disregard for the law is not going to sell you a legit car warranty or really lower your credit card payments.
The sad thing is that they are doing this because it works. There are enough folks out there that are ignorant enough to fall for these scams and part with their hard-earned money to some shyster on the phone. If no one bought the bogus car warranties, the calls would stop.
It is pointless to ask them to not call you, they don’t care. Either use caller ID to ignore the calls, or see if your phone company has a call blocking service where you can have certain phone numbers blocked.

I have something from my mom, it is about 3 years old, on the Do Not Call registry and it shows that the "registration" of the number is good for five years. So it might be time to renew the "registration" of your phone number.

I truely wish it was the case. I file a complaint everyday and in order to file a complaint your number has to be registered at least 31 days.

It is just frustrating because I work from home. So, I hear the phone ring all day long!

I'm trying to get a Fatwa issued so that we can make a more permanent solution to this problem.

Also, don't forget that the "Do not Call" dosn't apply to companies that you have a business interest or dealings with.

If you have a credit card from a company, they can call and offer you other products, and so forth.

Wish that was the case because if a company was calling me like 10 times a day I could easily call my credit card company and complain. But that is not the case, the people calling me are scam artists. They are they stupid collection agencies. They always ask for someone that doesn't even live here. If you even ask who they are, they immediately hang up on you. I'm not talking about legit people calling me. Trust me I can tell them apart. YOu know when a legit company is calling because their company name actually displays in the caller id. A scam company will display "out of area", "toll Free", "private caller", etc...

The original Do NOt Call list registry expired....you need to resign up your phone numbers and while your at it include you cell phone numbers.

If the company already does business with you, ie: you have a credit card or account with a company they may call you. So your bank, newspaper, phone company, etc are all still allowed to call you. Not to mention that congress when it passed the bill also included in the people allowed to call you , themselves....political people can also call you. I'm also sure that non profits also can still call.

I have had them tell me that Do Not Call doesn't apply because they are not trying to sell me anything. They are trying to help me lower my credit card rates. Then they hang up on me.

I checked the DNC site and my number is still active on their list. I have been reporting a phone number every day! They are calling mulitple times a day and no one answers when I pick up. I did a search of the number and found that it is for a company called Worldwide Preferred and there are a lot of complaints about them.

That is not true.....business names to not show on my caller id
Private can also be people you know with unlisted numbers....the kid that mows my lawn is one of those
And unknown or out of area can be something going through a switchboard....DH's work is one of those.
I just wait for them to say something before answering.

Any company you have dealt with, charities and politicians can all call :(

Maybe I'm missing the point of DO NOT CALL. How does a scam artist have the right to call me. I understand the politicians and charities but in my experience is that my caller id will reflect the name of the company that they are calling from. I don't mind those calls as they don't call me a hundred times a day. Even companies I've dealt with in the past are okay to call me. So, today I got a toll free call and decided to answer it. I said Hello about 5 times and waited no response. These people are wasting my time and everyone else's time. This toll free call just called me for the 3rd time today. You think that is okay?

Per the DoNotCall site it does not: Here's the message when you access their site:

Your registration will not expire. Telephone numbers placed on the National Do Not Call Registry will remain on it permanently due to the Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007, which became law in February 2008. Read more about it at http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2008/04/dncfyi.shtm.

My number is registered as on the same site you can verify that information as well.

Hmmm, that's interesting because I seem to remember all the newspaper articles about having to re register your phone numbers. But that could have been back in 2008. Anyway that is also GReat News because now I don't have to worry anymore about relisting my numbers.

So.... I thought I'd be a nice person and answer my 1st call of the day. I work from home so, I can answer the call. They called 8:40 am.

It was from 1-888-656-9294. They are a collection agency per google. It is a recording when you answer asking for somebody but you can't understand the recorded name at all. Then, it says press 3 if you are not this person or press "0" to talk to the operator. So, I press "0" and they put me on hold for a few seconds. Next comes on a voice that says they will connect me to a representative now. I wait a few more seconds and they say all representatives are busy now please call back at this number.

Are they kidding me? I don't have outstanding debt, etc.. My fear is how many people who aren't educated about this stuff fall for it and pay them. This is definitely a scam call.
