Does anyone here NOT like Whispering Canyon Cafe?

We thought the food was great on our trip there last year. Our server didn't really seem to much into it though. She was more rude than engaging. We didn't mind the antics but could have lived without audience participation of doing the hokey pokey. My DH is not a hokey pokier. We mostly like to watch the antics while we eat but not have to get up to participate. We will be going back this year partly because we are staying at WL but also because we liked the food. Oh and lets not forget the real reason.....bottomless milkshakes!! :rotfl:

Looks like I may have made a grave mistake. We are going to WCC on Feb 10th for a late lunch res. We will be celebrating my wifes B-Day. My family loved 50's prime time and we have never eaten at a resort restaurant only park restaurants so I thought this would be a good first 'out of park' experience. But maybe not huh:confused:

I found the servers to be more....aggressive...at WCC about getting people to participate than they were at 50's. Not sure if that's the right word, but it's the only one I can think of at the moment. :) The whole experience is a lot louder and more raucous than 50's.

Now, if that's something you'd enjoy, then you may well like WCC. If you were looking for a quieter lunch, I'd highly recommend Kona Cafe at the Polynesian, or Grand Floridian Cafe at GF. Both are easily reached via the monorail, have really excellent food, and both resorts are lots of fun to explore.

We ate there Aug '07 and will be our last. The food was below par. I don't mind the noise nor the antics, but we do expect the food to be edible. Our waitress was rarely visible and the service was slow. I wonder if it was due to the fact that we were DDP'ers and she knew she would get the 18% whether her service was good or bad.:confused3

We loved the food and the antics. Our server, Hedda Lettuce, was great! She brought my husband two huge drink refills, and when he finished them both, she was really funny about it! We normally don't like a lot of noise, but this was probably our favorite meal of the whole trip. We'll definitely do it again!

I've watched some videos from peoples visits at this place and I'm just not at all impressed. Seems very loud, noisy, obnoxious and like you really couldn't enjoy your meal much. Seems like you would end up leaving with a HUGE headache. That is my feel on it. Maybe it just isn't my cup of tea but really I don't see what the big rave about that place is. Just wondered if it annoyed anyone else, LOL:scared1:

If you don't care for that sort of atmosphere, by all means don't go. The loud, noisy, obnoxious setting is by design. Some like it, some don't and if you prefer quiet dining you should definitely look elsewhere.

Good luck!

I'd see if you can switch to Kona Cafe at the Poly or the Grand Floridian Cafe. Both are nice, quieter and a great escape from the parks for lunch!

we went in january- for lunch and had a ball! great milkshakes, great waitstaff, they were so much fun! and the prices weren't half bad, considering other sit downs at Disney-
the food was pretty good, though dh ate too many ribs....;)
I liked it a lot

We were just there last week and although the antics were cute and the kids on the horse sticks had a lot of fun, I don't think we will ever go back because of the quality of the food. DH got the skillet and it was very dried out and cold. I got the roast chicken breast and it was so greasy I couldn't even eat it. A terrible meal all the way around. Won't be going back!

Here is my husband and his huge drink refills:

The second one down!

The waitress brought a towel and put underneath his chair after he finished them!

We were there for the first time in Oct. 2006. I was really looking forward to it but the antics were not so great and the food left a lot to be desired and DS hated his meal and did not eat it. The milkshakes were good though. We will not be going back.

We ate there yesterday for lunch- right before we had to catch the Magical Express to go home. Our server was terrible! DS and myself ordered the skillet and DH ordered a hamburger (well done). The food was good. The service terrible. Very slow! We were there over 1 1/2 hours- for lunch. She brought my son out a glass of milk and left before I corrected her (he had the pirate punch). When I told her about it- she said "oh wrong table"- and gave it to a boy at another table. My DH was not at all happy. I should not that we were there at 1:00 and the place was half empty. We won't be going back.

We loved the service and atmosphere last September. Our waitress was great!!! I only thought the food was so so though. As of right now, It's not on my list of places to go back this next trip as there are so many other places that I would love to try.

Whispering Canyon Cafe was the only bad part about our trip last August!
I get a headache :headache: just thinking about that meal. We have 4 kids, and not one of them enjoyed it! And one is a teenager! We were very disappointed, and stressed after that meal. Just not entertaining for our family.:confused3

We have 2 young boys that are naturally "exhuberant". I like WCC as it does mask the noise they make. When they get a bit older (and hopefully quieter), we will see if the noise bothers us.

Food was pretty good the last time we were there (2006). Although, I understand they have now taken away the sausage from the skillet and replaced it with shrimp (seems a funny choice to me).

Our service at WCC the few times we have been there was good. No antics from our servers, but this suited us just fine (after all, been walking all day, kinda tired and now this dude with an apron on wants to crack wise on me and mine? Not gonna happen lol).

We have a reservation for WCC for Spring Break 08 and are looking forward to it.

I started a poll before our October trip inquiring about best servers at WCC. Hedda Lettuce won hands down!! You're very lucky you got her, we got someone we'd consider a dud (Stinky Pete) and it really affected our experience the other way.

I'm assuming you didn't know what type of restaurant it was? I was under the impression that the whole point of going to WCC was to partake in that kind of rowdy, atmosphere. It's definitely not for everyone. You specifically didn't mention this but why on earth would anyone go thinking that you might be put in a quiet area or get uptight when other people who are obviously there for all of the antics are bellowing and whooping it up? That's why there's many dining options. I can't help but laugh when I read comments like "I'm more of a quiet person", "I hope I get a quiet waitress", "I'm not comfortable with all the antics". Then don't go there. Obviously you need to be a bit of an extrovert or be willing to tolerate seeing adults act childish and silly....at Disneyworld. My family would love the antics but I'd probably wouldn't go there just based on the negative food reviews alone as opposed to the fact that the staff and restaurant is loud. To each his own.

I do believe that a lot of the people know what the restaurant is like. I don't like the antics and would prefer to go to Coral Reef or Le Cellier, but my son loves it. I guess that's the point. If I thought I was the only person who mattered in my family, we wouldn't go there. But since I have children who loves it and finds it quite entertaining, we occasionally end up there. (My daughter was afraid the first time, but by the end she was fine. The next time we went she loved it.:confused3 ) And although I may not like it, it's great to see my son's reactions. The OP asked if anyone NOT like Whispering Canyon. And I don't. I AM more of a quiet atmosphere kind of a person.I think the food is one of the deciding factor, but it's also the experience. I find the food okay. So I can still go and not like all the antics. But I will not get upset about the antics because that is what they do. But I can still NOT like it.

If my children said that they don't really want to go there anymore. My husband and I would say "Absolutely no problem!":woohoo: . We wouldn't go there again.

I have never been to wc. That being said my sister always stays at WLV when she goes. My niece has some severe food allergies to nuts, seeds, eggs and shellfish. This is one of her favorite places to eat. The reseraunts at WL have been very accomodating to her dietary restrictions.

Lasr February was our first trip with our grandchildren, ages 5 and 2. We were seated in the little alcove off the main dining room and I was almost in tears, I was so upset. The hostess promised our waiter would make up for our location, and he did! My grandson thought the funniest thing ever was our waiter sliding across the floor--can't remember why he did, but he did! And he took us out to the main area to yell for ketchup! The food, on the other hand, was nothing to write home about, but you don't go to places like this for the food--although it's wonderful when the food is good too!
