make ADR's for a trip you *MIGHT* be taking, just in case they aren't there when finally make your reservations? I might be going for my 21st birthday with a friend, but it isn't for sure. However that would be IN JULY! and I know from reading on here that it is busy and crowded, so I don't want to get stuck with places I don't want to eat at (or no places at all!) am I crazy for wanting to do this?!

well thats certainly planning ahead, booking your meals before you book the trip!! Hehe!
i dont see the problem with it as long as you cancelled the ADR's if you didnt take the trip in the end! :)

Oh, i never thought about doing this!

I maybe going in December but wont be booking til September probably.

Maybe I should book my ADRs 180 days out just incase? Id feel bad though, making a genuine guest lose out, if you see what i mean.

Although Im sure lots of people book ADR's and just dont show.

Haven't ever done that. I don't make my ADRs until after I have booked a trip (and I've always gotten the ADR's that I wanted). When you book ADR's for a trip you aren't even sure that you're going to take, you're using ADRs' that someone who has already booked might want. They're looking forward to those restaurants as much as you are and they've made the commitment to go. I think it's a little inconsiderate. Just my opinion.

:thumbsup2

Yes I do this all the time. The specials for Canadians for the following March don't come out until the end of September beginning of October. My ADR window is the beginning of September. So I book my ADR's knowing that if the Canadian special comes then it is a for sure trip. We automatically know which resort were going to and the dates. As soon as the special comes out my CAA agent calls me and I book it after she totals the price up. I see nothing wrong with this because the ADR's go quick. If the special isn't out by the 2nd week in October then there is no special. I do this and have never had to cancel any ADR's.

I also believe that it is done all the time. I feel it would only be inconsiderate if you didn't cancel them at least two to three weeks out. By then, you should know for sure whether you are going or not. Belive me, I don't see any difference than what others have done with anticipation of free dinning being offered. Many people made their ADRs on the hope of free dinning, and booked thier trip when it came out, with their ADR's already made.

Now if you don't cancel them (if you don't go), that wouldn't be very nice. July is a BUSY, BUSY season.

I would definitely cancel as soon as I knew I was NOT going on the trip! I would be pretty upset if someone was doing what I was doing and DIDN'T cancel, if I were the person trying to get the ressie's for my legitimate trip. Obviously I will know at least a month ahead of time if I would be going or not, so I would cancel ASAP. Thanks for the feedback.

My sister and I just did this last week. We were already at 180 days and hadn't officially decided to go yet. We actually called and made identical reservations for two consecutive weeks in September. Once we got our time off approved, confirmation from our friends that were coming and made a final decision on the dates we booked and then we cancelled the reservations we didn't need anymore.

Doing this is really no different than making them after you've booked your trip and then changing your mind about where you want to eat and then changing the ADR.
I would just consider it to be polite for you to cancel them as soon as you know you won't be using them, so that they do open up for someone else to use.

Hope you get to take your trip and experience lots of Magic!

I don't see why not. If you don't go, then you can just cancel them. I hope you get to go though!:)
