Does Anyone Have Any Clue When "Mary Poppins" Will be Released on Blu-Ray ?

On the upside of things, I see that "The Lady and the Tramp" will be coming out next month...

(Although the "aspect ratio" of that film is SO extreme... ie, Giant "black bars" on top and bottom and a very narrow viewing aspect will turn some people off....)

WHY they chose to do that is beyond me....

But, WHERE oh WHERE is "Mary Poppins" ?

I am NOT buying Mary Poppins again! I already have it on DVD, I don't know which edition and I hardly ever watch it, even though it's one of my favorite films.

Funny enough, I always watch when it's shown on TV.

Wow....I'm shocked it's not out on Blu Ray already. I don't have a blu-ray player so I didn't know. I'm surprised they didn't put it out for the 45th Anniversary edition, wasn't that last year?

2014 is the 50th Anniversary of Mary Poppins original release.

If I were a betting woman, I would put my money on it being re-released on Blu-Ray in 2014.

When it does eventually come out on Blu-Ray, I'll be the second in line. Kevin will be the first!

There has been a rumor for a few years now that the plans are to reconstruct the film from its original elements for its blu-ray release. Hopefully that is what's happening. In the extras on the DVD there are clips shown from the raw elements. They look superior to the current transfer of the film we've been seeing. It will all have to be recombined with the animation, backgrounds, special effects, etc. Hopefully we'll see the kind of blu-ray release this masterpiece deserves by 2014.
