Does anyone have a peephole on any of the doors in their house?

I am curious-does your peephole have 2different glass surfaces? Or just one?

The reason I am asking is- we just had a new door put on in our house, and the peephole only has 1 piece of glass, on the "outside" of the door. On the inside, there isn't one, and it doesn't seem right. I can fit my pinky into the cylinder.

And, not to mention, DH thinks I'm off my rocker about this. We are going to go back to the lumber store where we bought the door from, but DH is so ticked at me, he will be staying in the car.

We will be selling our house later in the year, and I am wanting the improvement projects that we are having done to be "right".

So-I am just trying to figure out what is right. Thanks!

What you have. It's normal. If you prefer the other style just replace the peephole, not the whole door.

We just replaced the door - cost a fortune because it had to be fire rated since it goes to the garage...I just wanted to know if the peephole was "correct". It just seems "unfinished" that is all.

Thanks for your help!

Had to go check ours out, lol. Just the one glass on the outside.
DD had peep holes put in about 3 years ago when our house got broken into. Total of 4 doors plus another door that has the half window with the built in blinds. We have the peep holes with the little flap on the inside.

You have a peephole going into your garage? Why?
We actually don't have any peepholes in our doors, because I'm too short to use one it didn't make sense to have one so we just skipped it when we bought our new front door.

As all the others mentioned, it's normal to only have glass on the outside. As pixie mentioned though, why do you have a peephole going to a garage? Front door only really, unless you have a layout I'm not familiar with.

I don't recall my peep hole having glass on the inside. I just had my front doors replaced, and the new peep hole hasn't been installed yet. I know what you mean about doors, our double front doors were $5,600 just for the doors, not even including installation.
We did our interior doors too, the fire rated door into our garage only cost $70 more, so that shouldn't have made much difference.

There is a running joke in my family, but it really is funny and makes no sense.

We have glass doors to the entry to our home. Full beveled glass double doors. I love them, you just can't come down the stairs in underwear, but you would need to be looking right into them to see anything, I mean, you'd have to put your nose in a certain spot to make anything out.

Anyways, there's a peep hole. It cracks us up. It's on the side wood paneling. Then the doors are all beveled glass. :lmao:

We have a peephole from the house to the garage...BECAUSE I WANTED ONE!!!:rotfl:

We can then easily tell if the lights are on in the garage at night. Plus, while our garage door is rarely open, I do not like opening the door, if someone knocks and I cannot see who is there. This is most likely to happen when DH is mowing the grass, and the garage door is open, or if he is taking the dog for a walk. A neighbor did this, and scared the crap out of me one day. Why they didn't use the front door, I'll never know.

And, no peephole on the front door, we have full sidelights on each side of the door.

If I'd made a bet concerning the number of glass surfaces in my peephole, I'd have lost. It's only ONE and I would have expected it to be two. OP...you say the hole looks "unfinished". Is the hole on the inside not finished off with a brass ring...or some type metal or wood to dress it out? Mine is done in brass and looks nice.

Here is a weird place for a peep hole. We either rented a home or just saw it but the regular garage door ' the big one that opens by a opener had a peep hole now what the heck these folks needed one there for who knows.".:rotfl2:

It actually looks better and more finished on the outside, than on the inside, which just doesn't seem right.

We actually stopped by the lumber store today, and they will be checking with the manufacturer on Monday.

I grew up in a house with frosted glass next to the front door. DW and I lived in a condo with a window in the top of the front door. Last 31 years we have had solid double doors, so if someone is out front, they can't see if anyone is inside. The privacy is so much nicer.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, when our house was broken into & DD replaced the dining room door we changed locks and put deadbolts & peepholes on all exterior doors. Five doors total including the one going into the garage. That one was advised as the garage door is usually open during the day if we are home because that is the door we use the most. The only people that would use the front door would be someone we don't know so a peep is good for that door. There are two exterior doors in the basement. One for my apartment and one for the door going into the rest of the basement.
So altho no one should be coming to either of those doors except immediate family, I'm glad to have the peeps there.
