Does anyone else wish all the rooms had VCR's or DVD's?

I was posting on a Vero Beach thread about how the Inn rooms have VCR's and I was thinking about how much I really wish all rooms had them. To save points we normally get a studio and it is the one thing we really miss. Yes a washer and dyer would be nice, but I can live with out it.

Howver having young kids it would be so great to have a VCR or DVD every night to relax and wach a tape before going to bed instead of letting the kids wacth stuff I normally wouldn't at home.

Does anyone else feel the same way and do you think it would every happen?

I think DVC could do it with out much of a problem, the question is will they?

I wish all the rooms had DVD/VCR combos. We took some movies last time to OKW in a GV and were surprised to find no VCR. We couldn't watch them and were not very happy about it. Not everyone has DVD's to watch. The combo isn't that expensive and it would give guest a better choice. I know all is going the DVD route but we had some disney movies on tape. I really don't think they will ever put them in studios even thought it would be nice, too many rooms!

I rarely use our DVD/VCR player at home and would never use it on vacation.

We used the DVD player a few times during our last stay at SSR. It was nice to stay in, cook, have some wine and chill with a movie a couple of nights. The selection of (free) "rental" DVD's was surprisingly good even for us adults. :)

I also used the DVD player as a CD player all the time, since there are no decent music tv channels on property... :teeth: There is nothing like sitting on the balcony with a glass of white wine, listening to music and relaxing before going out for the evening... :cloud9:

I don't know, really, I doubt I personally would use it in a studio unless it was a very rainy day that we couldn't go to the parks. And not only would it involve the cost of purchasing the dvd or vcr unit (which are pretty reasonable) the furniture containing the TV (at least in OKW studios) would have to be modified to accomodate them. Maybe as part of a full room rehab schedule they could be added.

with all the channels they offer, and the "disney bedtime stories", I don't think it matters to us. We rented a movie once at Vero, ony to realize we didn't have a player in our room (inn room!!!!), this was several years ago! Too much to do to sit around and watch movies!!

When we were at Vero the Inn rooms had VCR's in them.

For us it really helps to have Viedos of favorite kids things (baby Enstine, Kipper the dog, Winnie the pooh.)

I guess it is just something DVC will never do unless they get enough members asking for it. It really wouldn't cost them much.

We bring our DVD player and extension cord. Small cheap one from Sam's club- $40. It does help with our five year old DS. This last trip he watched Herbie and we were able to sit on the balcony and relax. :cool1: :cool1: My 5 year old doesn't like alot off the tweenie shows on Disney in the evening.

We used the DVD player in our 1BR nearly every day of our last trip.

To be honest even the TV is hardly used by our group anymore with the kids older. We always close the parks and then swim or something, not at WDW to pass the time watching TV-it goes fast by fast enough. We watch some of the Disney Vacation channel for park hours etc but thats about it.

It'd be nice if the studios had them, but I can play DVDs on my laptop and I think it has a bigger screen than the studio TVs.

It's funny you should ask this because DH and I were just talking about the "no DVD/VHS player in the studios. We are planning on joining DVC, buying only 150 points at first to see if we like it and if DVC is for us. (We've been to DL 6 times in the last 4 years, so we thought DVC might work for us.)
With only a small number of points to work with, we were planning on staying in studios, which is fine for us because that's all we need right now.

But since we have two small children, a DVD/VHS would be very handy, especially at night right before bedtime because it gives the kids a chance to settle down and then settle in for the night.

It can be a little chaotic to go from theme park to bedtime without it. :earseek: Our kids would still be doing this - :Pinkbounc :bounce: - whereas DH and I are ready to pass out. LOL

ITA! I can see us doing this when Amelia gets older. I'll be zonked and she'll need a wind down from a fun day!

This last trip, DH and I watched movies while our little girl was napping in the bedroom. It was wonderful!

That is the thing. I think the tweenie shows are great for older kids instead of adult shows, but not for the young kids. She ends up wacthing them when nothing else is on. We bring a few books with us, but we don't have as many options, or engery when on vacation for wind down time.

Does anyone know if the portable ones can be hooked up to the T.V's? Often we will hook up our cam corder (and we wacth tape from this trip or old trips.) but we are considering getting a portable DVD player since we mostly stay in studios latley.

Who's gonna buy all the new DVD/VCRs for the studios and bedrooms? Are members going to pay for the new inventory via dues?

We seldom use the DVD player in the one bedroom anyway.

TV selection at WDW is poor and mostly propaganda/ad channels for the "once in a lifetime" WDW guest. When you visit frequently, you get sick of the lack of choice (especially in the Cable News department-where's FOX?) We use the player every day-every trip. With volume and discount, the cost for this added ammenity is minimal. I think every TV should have one.

We often pack our own small DVD player and plug it in the master bedroom so we can enjoy a movie before bed while the kids are sleeping in the LR.

That is what I was thinking. Heck if you just took the old ones out of the resorts when they were replaced and put them in the studios in the other resorts that would be cool with me. I don't really care so much if it is a VCR or DVD, just as long as I know it so I can bring some from home.

However if studios had VCR's and one and 2 bedrooms had DVD player I could guess some studio guests would complain (not me) and it would be more difficult with their rental libary.

Does anyone know if most portible ones can be hooked up to a larger tv? I don't want to risk bringing a normal DVD player from home on a airplane, but Chirstmas is coming and we could get a portible one for pretty cheap (we have one built into the van already.)

It would be nice for a DVD/VCR combo in both rooms. It doesn't really matter to me though. We have a portable DVD player and we just take it from the car and plug it in if my two daughters (ages 9 and 2) want to watch different things.

We are the opposite. We ONLY have DVD's, no VHS tapes. We have one VCR in the house and the rest are all DVD players-even my minivan has a DVD player. I was planning on bringing some DVD's for my kids to watch. Can anyone tell me if all 1 bdr villas at Boardwalk have DVD players??? Also, do they have them in the living room and the bedroom, or just the living room? Thanks!

I don't think they plug into larger tvs (at least mine doesn't). There are car adapters (don't remember if they come with it or if it's seperate) and also a battery and a unit to plug it into an outlet. They only way we ever use ours is in the car with the adapter or plug it into the wall. We've never used the battery hook up. I heard it eats batteries like crazy. If you have a laptop that's capable of playing DVD's you could use that, but the portable players are that expensive anymore. I think you get 7-10" screens for like $115 and up.
