Does anyone else find this a little creepy for an adult to say?

I was with my little boy (5 years old) this morning when the man next door came out and we spoke for a few minutes before getting in the car. The man said to me, "He sure is growing up. He's a cutie. He is going to be very sexy one day!"

Now, to me that just sounded very inappropriate. It's one thing for an adult to say that a child will grow up to be handsome or something...but "sexy"? Huh? And it would be bad enough coming from a woman but from a man??? Would a normal man really look at a little boy and think "he is going to be sexy?"

Don't get me wrong, I'm not ready to label him a pedophile or anything, I just thought it was extremely strange. Anyone else find it odd or would you not think twice about it? Maybe my imagination is just in overdrive this morning.

I definitely think it's odd. If anyone said that about my son, I would feel creeped out!! I think "handsome" "heart breaker" or something like that would've been ok, but sexy is not appropriate when children are involved!

I think you have every right to be concerned. That statement would have sent up a red flag for me too!

Yes, I definitely think that is a little over the top to say!! I would be creeped out by the whole thing myself!

CREEPY!!! We always say that DS will be handsome when he gets older but sexy, not an appropriate word.

It would make me uneasy.

Then again I have a sister-in-law who trained her toddlers to "be sexy" on cue. That meant they were supposed to wink. She thought it was adoreable. It made my skin crawl. When these kids were in middle school, the daughter announced to the extended family that her bought his shoes a size too big so every one would think his ***** was bigger. Their mother thought it that was cute too.
I am posting all of this because some people have a different perspective on what is appropriate, Still I'd keep an eye on that nieghbor around my son.

So many red flags for me that I would do a little research to see if this man is a known sex offender. I believe there is a website where you can look up convicted sex offenders in your area. Definitely listen to your gut. It may have been a completely innocent comment, but not one that I would risk as a parent.

All I can say is ick, ick, ick! Keep an eye on him and definitely check out the known sex offendars list if you have it online. Otherwise you can get it from your county office.

EDITED TO ADD:::

Sorry you are in Canada. Do you have anything like that?

I agree with previous posters, check your pedophile log for your area if applicable and keep an eye out. ICK! Not appropriate at all.

Thank you so much for your input. It definitely did not sit right with me and I'm glad you're not telling me I'm just crazy or something!

I am not aware of a sex offender registry here...I will have to do my homework on that and find out for sure. What great advice! Thank you!

In the meantime, yes I will be watching him closely.

Sywalker we do have one here not to sure of the site off hand but do a quick google search it should turn up in that one. My dad uses that term all the timeespecially when my 2 daughters start parading around like they are on a catwalk or something he doesn't mean anything by it but I guess it is all how it weas done and the situation you are in when it was said.

That would definitely put a red flag up in my head....odd.

Yep, sounds creepy. It's one thing to say, "he's going to be handsome," or even something like, "he's going to be a heart-breaker," but sexy is way over the line.

now wait a sec. before you try, convict and execute this guy lets make sure its not just a poor choice of words or something, how long has he been a neighbor, how do other neighbors feel about him, is their a family. if youve lived by him for an extended period of time and sensed nothing odd i would not jump to conclusions.

Always go with your first instinct.. It certainly sent flags up in your head. Go with that. I find it creepy! There's a lot to be said for Motherly instinct!!!!

ITA!!!

I don't think we are convicting anyone, but I agree with investigating it.
