It seems to me that people sometimes have trouble leaving the 'hotel' mindset behind when they buy a timeshare. It's an entirely different economic arrangement, which is very obvious when you read the contract (though I know many, if not most, buyers, have never done that).
When I purchased my
DVC contract, I bought real estate from a real estate developer: Disney Vacation Development. That's who my contract is with. Not Disney Parks, not Walt Disney Travel Company. They share a parent company, but they are different business units with their own budgets and financial goals. That big "Disney" that people refer to, as in "Disney should show some appreciation", or "I paid so much money to Disney, so they should give me stuff"....doesn't exist. Not in the way that some seem to think it does. Like all major companies, Disney is a collection of separate, smaller business units that operate independently, and sometimes have common goals, but the money is separate.
The money I paid to purchase DVC, and the dues I pay, go to DVD. Why should WDTC give me the free dining package they offer? I don't give them a thin dime. They don't know what I spend on DVC, and they don't care, since they're not getting any of that money.
OK, then should DVD "show their appreciation" by paying WDTC to give me free dining? That argument makes no sense to me at all. It's like buying a condo from a real estate developer and then deciding that they should show their appreciation by giving me hundreds of dollars worth of free food on a regular basis. What possible business reason would they have for doing that?
