Does anyone else feel physically ill the first day or two after a cruise?

Between the eliptical equipment onboard that makes me hyper sore, delayed reaction motion discomfort, and the blood sugar crash that comes after a cruise, I feel really bad and run down sometimes for a couple of days after a cruise.

Does anyone else have this type of experience?

You may be suffering from PCD (Post-Cruise Depression). The effects can be extreme, but remedies are available. Listening to Disney show music, watching DCL videos and booking another cruise to start a new countdown clock have all been known to counter the effects of PCD. :)

I try to make it over to DHS and ride Tower of Terror - it helps relieve some of the "Solid Ground Motion Sickness"

And it usually takes a couple of weeks from my fingernails to heal up after they pull me off of the ship (I won't let go!!)

I may give it a try. I just got off of a 3 day Dream cruise yesterday, and I am going on the Norwegian Fjords Magic cruise on June 29.

I may try to stay off of the eliptical equipment next time. They have Life Fitness brand elipticals, and I am used to Precor. The difference really does cause me extreme pain for the first few days.

I get land sick for a couple of days, Bonine help the second day this time forgot to take it the first day back, and as far as PCD still have that, and it's been a month

Belac is right, there is such a thing as Land sickness, which is basically your body adjusting the dry land again, after learning to handle the motion of being at sea. It usually goes away in a couple of days for most people.

Oh it is a real thing, I absolutely hate it. I hardly ever get seasick, like never, but dang, once back home I am a wreck, the whole queasy tummy, in a fog-ish dizziness, I curse the day I got off the ship. I had to go right back to work the next day after and forgot to take pill in the morning, as soon as I got home I went straight to bed with a glass of water and Bonine. The next day was better after taking pills but still iffy, finally wore off the third day.
I wont be ever forgetting it next time. I rather it this way though, for sure I wouldn't ever want to feel that way on board.

I'm sure its no help to those who have experienced this, but we've found that after a bunch of cruises (DCL & RCL) we are no longer bothered by this sensation.

I have only done 7 (7 nights or more) and still happens, so I guess I have another 7 to go huh? I'm game :)

I also am experiencing symptoms that - let's just say - have resulted in rapid weight loss today.

you may have picked up a bug onboard -- we've had it happen twice in 16 cruises. One time I came home on the verge of pneumonia. You may also feel lightheaded and/or dizzy like you are still on the ship -- sometimes I feel the movement of the ships for days after I disembark.

Note, the high levels of " salt" in the cruise food, and in the air, have effects:-
Raise blood pressure/ dizziness. Swollen ankles etc.
Weight gain, - all of the above.

Increased sugar intake, desserts/ soda has effects.
Sugar rush, diabetes risk, withdrawal post cruise.

Soda.
Can effect digestion tract and attack good bacteria.

Effects of motion.

If inside, then your brain gets used to movement, but thinks walls now move, you have to re train it back.

Spa / hot tubs.
Increased blood pressure.
Hence not good for pacemakers.
Dizzy ness etc.

Remedies.
Water on cruise.
Look at horizon.
Get fresh air.
Everything in moderation.
Do not eat too late, run my the old saying, eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper.
Do not stay in hot tubs over 15 minutes.

Redsox, you may be right.

This was my 12th cruise. I'm now running a low-grade fever and have other more unseemly symptoms.

After our first cruise, I had a really bad headache for the first day or two afterwards (and still felt the movement of the ship).

After our second cruise, we all became very ill with flu-like symptoms 3-4 days after arriving home. But we went to the AKL the day after the cruise and had a dinner and breakfast at Boma, so it's just as likely we picked up something there (or on the flight home).

I had bad land sickness but resumed the dramamine for a few more days until it could clear up.

I have a Precor (LOVE IT!!). Every other elliptical that I've been on (in hotels) have a motion more like a funky stair climber. My legs hurt afterwards as well, but I think that its mostly because the muscles are moving / working in a slightly different motion - and that can't be all bad for you.

You picked up a bug. Feeling physically ill isn't normal "land sickness". And having belly problems definitely isn't part of it.

DW used to suffer from the same maladies post cruise. Dr. prescribed Flonase, and since she started using it pre and post cruise - no more problems.
