Does anyone else believe this

And within our beliefs, Jesus IS the reason we will go. The Bible tells us exactly what we need to do. So, from a believers pov, there is no question.

Well, its all open to interpertation. :goodvibes

Contradiction? :confused3

Not saying anyone here, but my problem is that I know many people who believe they are 'chosen'. That they lead the only and right life. That everyone else is somehow 'less than' and not quite 'worthy'. They are the worst at judging others and their lives. If you delve into their pasts :scared1:. They are very self-righteous and yet live less than stellar lives to this day. Just because you go to church, tithe and read the Bible does not mean you will be among the chosen. Just because you believe in God does not mean that you can continue to do whatever you feel and wash that all away with being truly repentent at the end (and the heck with the inbetween).

I respect that you have the right to believe in anything your heart desires, but having done a bit of background research (having never heard of this before). I am concerned that people have/ are making very drastic lifestyle choices which may prove regretful based on some random guys prediction.

I'm not trying to disrespect those who believe the rapture will come (at some point) but why would you believe this man?

However, to each their own and I hope to be continuing this conversation after May 21st.

Right. If someone asks the questions "what's a rapture" or "how do I make it in the rapture," then the answers can turn religious...and it's best to either PM or google it.

As long as we keep the subject matter on whether or not we believe the headlines, without pushing or poking one anothers belief system, then we are ok.

Too late now. I agree with you, but some people just have to go there.

Agreed. A couple of hours in church every Sunday doesn't automatically make a person more worthy than someone who just lives life by a strong moral code. Most good people know right from wrong, and don't need the Bible or religion to guide them in the right direction.

I hope this doesn't offend, as its not meant to. Apologies in advance!

Considering this thread has moved from believing the world is coming to an end next week to the beginnings of a discussion about Christian doctrine vs. Universalism, I have a feeling this thread is either going to become heated or closed, both of which are disappointing, although I understand why it would be closed considered the religion rule put in place a few years ago.

Believe it or not I was not aware of the rule I was just wondering what was going on. I want to believe that in this case the news is incorrect about the rapture I am not expecting it in my life time

If it's true I'm going to be ticked. That's right in the middle of our WDW trip!

I'm no religious scholar, but doesn't the Bible say something about "you shall know neither the hour nor the day"? In that case...doesn't that make this guy automaticly wrong?

The news is incorrect as well as some other sources. Enjoy life. :goodvibes

There is suffering because of man's sinful nature. Because some people are full of evil. Why is it that we expect God to save us from everything when we have denied his existence and turned our backs on him?

Walk into St. Jude's hospital and tell a parent this. :guilty:

Anyone who claims to know when the rapture will happen is a false Prophet.

:thumbsup2 Pretty much...if you believe in the rapture then you have to also believe in the part that says 'nobody knows' when it will happen, therefore the headlines are wrong.

Besides...I thought it was DECEMBER 2012 that the world was going to end anyway according to the Mayan ? calendar. We still have an entire year.

So does anyone else think the couple mentioned in the news should be denied State/government funded benefits when they apply on May 22?

This kind of predicting has been going on for centuries. When I was a kid (during the dark ages) our church (Catholic) had a guest priest who claimed to have seen the letters from Fatima and that they predicted the end of the world would be (I don't remember the date, but it was close to where we were in 1958 or 59).

I mean this was a real fire and brimstone preacher, scared the living daylights out of everyone or at least me.

When we left the church my Mother asked my Father what he thought. Keep in mind that both were devout Catholics, my Father perhaps more then my Mom. He looked at her, grinned a little and said..."since we don't have to pay for it, can I buy that new car I wanted?" He then just laughed, all of us laughed.

To my knowledge the end of the world didn't come at all during that time frame. Apparently, the priest didn't check the authenticity of the signature on the letters, because they were fake (or he was). Either way, it didn't happen. Neither did the new car. (He shouldn't have laughed)

Because it is said that since the death of Jesus, when you accept the fact that Jesus died on the cross for your sins, you are accepted into heaven through the grace of God. If one believes and one accepts that Jesus died on the cross for their sins, then they know they will "be picked." Nothing snowflakey at all about that. It is a belief in faith.

It has nothing to do with your actions. It has everything to do with the acceptance of your faith.

This explains so much to me now. Where I live, everyone is "religious". A lot of them aren't very nice, and are downright mean if you aren't the "right" religion. But now I get it. You don't have to be nice to other people, or accepting of others. You just have to accept your faith. Ok. Not impressed.

Yes.

That's why I find this confusing in the first place. Unless this guy doesn't believe what the Bible says. I mean if you believe then you need to believe in all of the word, not just some of it.

"like a thief in the night"..May 21st could be the day but so could May 20th.

I hope this guy doesn't stop believing if it doesn't happen on May 21st. Because it May 22nd is the day, he might not be ready! ;)

I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints

Actually, no, they do have to be nice to other people.

A religious believe does not excuse people being mean or rude. Nor should someone assume everyone of the same religion acts the same way.

I'm sorry you lived in an area where that happened to you. People who take their bigotry and try to hammer their religion into in as justification do nothing but hurt others, themselves, and their religion.

There are not so "religious" people that aren't very nice too.

But I do understand what you mean. I have a relationship with God, not a religion. And I don't go to church because I dont need to hear the gossip of town.

Then again no one is perfect...believer or not.
