Does anyone else believe this

I had a discussion with my dad about all of this the other day. I know some of the not so sane members of my mom's family are sitting waiting for May 21st. They have already told us we are not chosen. :confused3 Not sure how they know this. I question their sanity because they have quit jobs, and told their kids not to go to school because none of it will matter. The end of the world according to them is October 21st. I wanted to know what time since I'll be in Disney eating at Boma for the first time. At least I'll be in my happy place. :thumbsup2

Is it only the North Americans preparing for this impending event ? Because I have heard absolutely nada about this here in Europe. Nothing in forums/media etc , zilch.

Should I start informing people? Fellow Scots might be a concerned re their whisky drinking habits if people suddenly start disappearing or then again they may not.

Well, the crowds ought to be very manageable that day.;)

Sort of hard to discuss the impending "Rapture" without discussing religion!

Right. If someone asks the questions "what's a rapture" or "how do I make it in the rapture," then the answers can turn religious...and it's best to either PM or google it.

As long as we keep the subject matter on whether or not we believe the headlines, without pushing or poking one anothers belief system, then we are ok.

Soooo, is this going to take place Eastern Standard Time? Just thinkin our pals in Australia could give us a heads up since May 21 will hit them before us. :thumbsup2

Most of us North Americans are NOT preparing for this either.

I have seen the Family Radio billboards about May 21 here in Canada as well. I was just wondering - do you think they prepaid for the advertising or asked to be billed later :confused3?

Hoping my post doesn't lead to any points, but I have to say that I would have no interest in "flying up". I'm not spiritual in the least, but who would want a God who excludes some of his children? Where is the love in that? That's my main question to anyone of faith. If there is a God, why is there suffering?

but it is believed by some that John of Patmos WAS John the Apostle. He was believed to have been exiled to Patmos.

That was who I was remembering being told it was. But, I know that there are others that do not believe any of the John's in the Bible were the same.

From what I have read most Bibical Scholar do not think they are the same.

If you check out Harold Camping's website, you'll see that he predicted the rapture to take place in the 90s (94 I believe). Obviously that didn't happen, so he recalculated his figures and came up with May 21, 2011.

To those asking if this is a wide-spread American belief, I'd say no. I am a Christian, quite active in our local church, believe the rapture may happen at some point in time, but only heard of this May 21 idea a few days ago on the DIS. The sad part (and there are a few sad parts of this idea) is that some people will lump together all Christians and assume that we're all kooks because some nut routinely predicts the end of the world on a particular date.

Wow, that gives me very little time to market my "Post-rapture Pet Sitting Service!"
:lmao:

Am I the only one who has no desire to be taken up in a Rapture? I'd like to stay here and live out my life, thank you very much. I have plans! ;)

No, you're not the only one. I've often thought how much quieter it would be after a rapture. Less traffic on the roads. Less annoyance in general. I know pretty much no one I care about will be "taken up" so all the important people will still be here. :confused3

Also, for those who may think it's rapture or hell, I beg to differ. I'll be going to the Vestibule of the Uncommitted. Dante says so. Sure, I'll be chasing a black banner in my birthday suit while being stung by insects for all eternity, but it could be worse. ;)

And what was the point of her getting pregnant? She's not due until June and apparently kids don't get to go.

I'm an atheist (seems like a lot of us are former Catholics :rotfl:), but some people believe any kind of birth control is morally wrong. So the "point" of getting pregnant was that they were leaving that up to God, like the Duggars.

From my fundie days in high school, I don't ever remember hearing that kids wouldn't be raptured. :confused3

My birthday is Dec 21. I'll be disappointed if the world ends on May 21. I want my end of the world party, darn it!

Ok, I just think I'm really misunderstanding the "no religious discussion" rule for the boards. And I generally do get offended when people think I'm going to hell (or whatevere). I just have to get over it I guess.

Who said that? Its not rapture or hell.:confused3

I thought someone upthread posted that children weren't included? :confused3 Maybe I misunderstood. Either way I find it ridiculous to think there are those who are so self-assured that they KNOW they'll be picked. Kind of the DIS version snowflakes. Even Jesus had his doubts and wasn't sure if he was good enough, what makes everyone else think they know better?

Nothing snowflake about it. And no one is being "picked". Its not a volley ball team.

And within our beliefs, Jesus IS the reason we will go. The Bible tells us exactly what we need to do. So, from a believers pov, there is no question.

From what I have read most Bibical Scholar do not think they are the same.

Well, its all open to interpertation. :goodvibes

I would love to know why it seems that making fun of relegious beliefs is ok but discussing them without judgment is not. :confused3

Can I ask why you get offended if people think that? Is it that you don't believe that heaven and hell exist or is it something else? My stepsister felt the same way. It would get her so mad.

Nothing snowflake about it. As others have said it's a matter of faith. Believing what the Bible says and making the decision that is says you have to make. That is what assures you your place in heaven.

I agree with you and this whole conversation really gives me the creeps.

Then why read it? I know I have come across some threads before that creep me out, so I just avoid them all together.
Meh. Either it happens or it doesn't. Not that we could stop it.

But what the group is saying is fuzzy. First it was Jesus was returning on May 21st. Now we are going to have earthquakes on May 21st, and Jesus returns October 21.

To be frank, I don't worry about it. It happens when it happens. The arguing that exists between different theologies over how or when the end of the world happens seems pointless to me. Just wait and see.
Oh, so he changed it, huh? Didn't know that. He has been wrong before, and will be wrong again this time. ;)

That is so sad. Let us know what they say when this guys "prophecies" don't come true.

There is suffering because of man's sinful nature. Because some people are full of evil. Why is it that we expect God to save us from everything when we have denied his existence and turned our backs on him?
