Does anyone do this when you check into your room???

ok..I didn't see the report...but I'm sucked into this thread....

can you see these bedbugs with the naked eye? If so, what do they look like?

...to all those that disinfect upon entering the hotel room.. how do you disinfect the theme park(s) upon entering... ?
;)

OH, NOW YOU REALLY GONE AND DONE IT!

I can just see the lines for Splash Moutain getting twice as slow due to some spraying Lysol into and on their boat! :teeth: Maybe Disney can have a crop duster fly in low and spray Lysol by the ton over the Magic Kingdom? The makers of that liquid disinfectant gel you put on your hands to clean them, will soon come out with a sunscreen that has the disinfectant already built in!

My God Man It's war! It's us against the germs and I don't like the odds.

Very carefully! ;) Putting it back on, well that's an entirely different matter.

If Mousekeeping and the manager want to know what the heck happened, just tell them you sent the kids to the club, your spouse went goofy, one thing led to another and....boy are you exhausted! :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Its much easier to just disinfect the child. Spray them from head to toe with Lysol and it creates a protective bubble that no germ can pentrate. :lmao: I tell you this stuff is gonna put Purell and hand wipes out of business. :rotfl:

In all seriousness, I just carry baby wipes/Purell and we use them often. That's about the best I can do.

Nope. I don't do any cleaning of the room. If the room doesn't look clean to me, I go to the front desk and get another room or have them re-clean theone I am in.

I have never had this problem at WDW.

I heard of one Psycho mom who wipped the nose of chip and dale wiht a wet nap before her kids touched them.

YES! I remember this too! I remember reading it in a thread a few months ago. I think someone said that they saw it with their own eyes at a character greet or dinner.

Wish I could remember that thread and what it was all about; it might have been a thread about the germs in the finger scan at the turnstyles maybe?? This is going to drive me crazy.

We travel a lot and everywhere. I have found WDW has the cleanest hotel. We always stay at the GF and I know for a fact that they change the sheets every single morning. There is a basket of fresh bed linens outside each door in the morning for mousekeeping. ALso I never sleep or use the bedspread, at night turndown service takes the bedspread off the bed.

I don't know if the spread is changed every guest or not, so I just don't touch it or use it.

Actually most of the hotels change the bed linens every day not every guest.

The blanket is changed for each guest, but you will have the same blanket during your stay. It is usually between 2 sheets, which is the same way I make my bed at home.

I get grossed out easily, but I do not disinfect or clean. I just don't touch things and I wash my hands often. I have not been sick in a few years.

No no no! I'm envisioning HazMat suits kiosks all over WDW...they can even emblazon the image of Mickey on the back of them a la the yellow rain ponchos!

It's a goldmine, I tell ya! A GOLDMINE!

BTW: SAMEYEAM: Did you come across any DIS-MANTLED headboards in your days....have you?? I would be absolutely curious to know if people actually do STUFF like THAT in hotels....removing headboards...come on NOW!!! What IS this world coming to?

You would not believe the things people do to hotel rooms. One of my favorite was someone actually stole the dresser drawers, not the entire dresser, but just the drawers!! He was on a ground floor room, we have interior corridors, so he opened the window, removed the screen and put them in his car in the parking lot that way! He was a regular business customer, we billed his credit card for the dresser price, he never complained and continued staying with us!

Also had an elderly couple that threatened to sue us. Their attorney sent a letter stating they were staying on the 4th floor and the elevator went plummeting 4 floors, his wife broke her hip due to the fall. Problem was we are only a 2 story hotel with no elevator!

Had another lady that chipped her tooth on a crab shell in the crab salad in our restaurant. Only problem, the Crab salad was actually KRAB salad (yep, fake crab made of fish!). She wanted her new dental work paid for!

When people do strange things to rooms and damage them we normally charge their credit card. 99% of the time they know they did the damage and don't dispute it.

But just about the time you think you have heard everything, something even stranger comes along!!

I have to agree with the poster who noted the increase in allergies, asthmas, etc. I've seen all the reports on news magazine shows about dirty hotels, hotel linens, etc. I've also seen the reports on the problems being created by the overuse of antibacterial wipes, cleaners, etc.

I was not the cleaning freak one of my best friends was when we had children at about the same time. Oddly enough, my child has been ill about 1/10 of 1% of the time of Mrs. Clean's child.

There are all kinds of reports about building up immunities ... so I have to agree with the poster who said they thought their family might actually be healthier because they are more tolerant and less stressed about "dirt."

I travel a great deal w/ for horse shows. Sometimes we have to actually stay in the barn .... you can imagine how clean that is! Sometimes the little tiny hotel in whatever town you might be is a real trip ... my favorites were either the popcorn in the ice bucket or the biscuit in the microwave My husband has traveled to many third world counties. Let me tell ya', folks who worry about immediate removal of the bedspreads and re-cleaning bathroom fixtures could neither show horses or travel to many foreign countries.

Sure ... I've had to do some cleaning or call housekeeping back to some rooms in some hotels. But never at WDW. And, it's only been when there is a problem. I never do it as a pro-active move.

I can only take about a week's vacation at a time. If I were going to re-clean the bathroom and take apart a bed, then I'd ALSO have to wipe down EVERY door handle, EVERY elevator button, EVERY seat belt buckle, EVERY lap bar on a ride, etc. My kids wouldn't be able to sit on any chair, bench, couch, etc. that I didn't pull out of my own backpack. We'd have to re-wash all plates and glassware. Who has time for all of that? Great for all of you who have time for that or who have health concerns that give you cause to do so. But for me and mine ... not so much.

ITA. This is true as to me. I must admit I couldn't do it ("foreign" is fine but 3rd World, not so much). I don't even like camping. My DH's friends are the rugged, like camping, love 3rd World Country types. I, however, think roughing it is a hotel without room service. Everyone agrees I would be the very first one voted off the Survivor Island. :rotfl:

I'm ok with it though. :teeth:

There is no need to dismantle anything. The head boards in most hotels..simply lift off. You have a person on each side..and lift up..and then bend it forward. At this point you are able to see if there are any of these critters hiding behind there..or in any of the seams. My kids did this last month ..and it was pretty easy and quick. They slept sounder for having done so.

I think those that sanitize..whether with lysol or wipes..that's up to you. If it makes you feel better..then fine. However..the issue with the bed bugs..it can be an otherwise clean room. Vacuumed...dust free. The problem with the re-emergence of these bugs is that exactly...people are not aware that a perfectly clean room can be hiding these things. Which in itself is bad enough if you should happen to be bitten(fed on)...but the worst part is yet to come..because if they are in your luggage and you bring one or two home...the infestation of your house can be very costly. Better safe than sorry.

OK GANG: Now I have just returned from two full days at the WESTIN in Providence, RI. Graduation weekend!! And the first thing DH and I noticed after laughing so hard at this Thread was the HEADBOARDS. They literally go from the floor to the ceiling and appear to be ADHERED in some fashion to the wall.....

So now those of your removing headboards....how exactly would get one of these headboards off?

Oh, wait I know..call down to the Front Desk and see if THE HULK or even for that matter HULK HOGAN has checked IN!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Nope, I do give them and the floor of the tub and shower a blast of lysol. That's about it.
I soak everything down with Lysol when we first get there.....and we try not to put our luggage on the floor. :rotfl2:

The one and only time we stayed at the Music Resorts in 2004, there was a used condom under one of the beds so I always look around in the room so my kids don't find something "left behind" first! :teeth:

I suppose with the design you are referring to it would not be possible for you to remove or look at the back of the head board. You could..if you wanted..simply check the corners of the mattress..(a spot here they hide)..or lift it up a bit and check under it. I certainly don't recommend tearing a room apart or calling Hulk Hogan...I don't think it takes a tremendous amount of effort to visually look at spots where these creatures are known to lurk. I tend to think that a place like Disney World tends to have LOTS of foreign travelers. These creatures are said to have reappeared mostly due to that...travel to and from foreign countries where these bugs have thrived, where as in the US they have been eradicated for some 50 years...until now.

My grandson came home from Disney with pinworms when he was about three. The doc said it prob came from his playing on the playground in the resort. At least he was pretty sure that was where HIS son had gotten them from (cause they put their hands in their mouths). Didn't even faze my daughter the nurse. She's seen much worse.

I don't look, because I don't want to know.

It is 1AM and I was bored to death waiting for my family to return from the RED SOX game...YEAH we won 10-2..we live a good hour outside of Boston......so I remembered this HYSTERICAL Thread on Mousekeeping and dug it up for some good solid late night laughs!!!!! :teeth:

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I wont be washing my sheets but I will be looking for the bugs. The thought of taking them home is enough to make me take two mins and look. I dont get why anyone would no,t but if you got them you would wish you did.
