Congressman Mark Foley has just entered a treatment facility for Alcoholism. Good grief. Why do they always do this?

No doubt alcoholism is a maor problem in our society, but it can't be used as an excuse for everything.

Because it's more acceptable to be an alcoholic than a pedophile.

I think a bigger question, is why is our countries leadership going to rehab?! I mean, who are we voting in here?

I have great difficulty with anyone claiming alcoholism when they get caught in a legal mess.

Good question. Why is the world would someone spend more money than they can make as a congressman or senator to get this job? Can they not make a living doing something else? If we really took a long hard look at what we as voters have done to this country, we would vote all of them out of office and start over. But we don't seen to have the guts..... :confused3

Geez... I hope so!!!

Not to mention, alcoholism does not make one a pedophile so how do the two correlate??? :confused3

In most cases it's not their money they're spending. But also, in most cases, the position itself is a paycut for them, since most politicians had pretty high-paying jobs prior to their election. IMO, it's the power, not the money.

There are two types of politicians-under indictment and haven't been caught yet.

Apparently it can. Or at least in the world of politicians.

I can understand the ol' adage "power corrupts"...well, can't really understand it, but I can kind of see it, but how does that power turn someone into a pedophile. A crook maybe, but a pedophile? c'mon. I like the idea of just voting them ALL out and starting over. I'm a democrat and not to happy with them either. I mean c'mon people (the politicians) lets remember what you were voted in to do. Shouldn't it be they work for us?!

I'm sorry, but this stuff infuriates me :furious: , that's why I usually try to avoid the threads about politics.

I don't think the power turns them into pedophiles -- once a pedophile, always a pedophile.

The power makes politicians think they can get away with pretty much everything. There's examples of this on both sides of the aisle. :sad2:

You are sooo right!

sad how the repubilcans are running around noe covering their butts
they knew about this a year ago
and reported it to the page board and foley was told to stop and he didnt

What's even more disgusting than Mark Foley is how some in Congress hid the fact in order to save his butt. How disgraceful.

If my Congressman hid this, I'd be sure in hell writing letters demanding him to step down, and definitely not voting for him.

These people continue to assume they can get away with it...but I've had enough.

Alchoholism is a disease and entering treatment is not something someone should do merely to "escape" and to garner sympathy as I believe Mr. Foley has done. It's an insult to all the people that really do want help. There is no evidence that Mr. Foley does have, or ever had, a problem with alchohol. If it turns out he truly does, I will apologize for my comments here.

We had a similar situation in NJ. Our ex-governor was inches away from being indicted on corruption charges when, low and behold, he decides that it's time to reveal to the world that he is "a gay American". He has proceeded to position himself as a victim of homophobia ever since. Sorry, Jim, Matthew Shepard was a victim of homophobia-you are just a crook and you should be ashamed of yourself for using your sexual orientation to get yourself out of trouble.

Foley should get double the sentence for the federal crimes he committed! For pete's sake! :sad2: Sick, sick, sick.

He's was co-chairman of the Missing and Exploited Children's Caucus and a prominent backer of legislation to crack down on online predators and criminalize child pornography on the internet. :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

Total sham. :sad2:

i agree with you - if there was a coverup to protect a seat in an election year, that is truly dispicable!

It seems to be one of the pat excuses for the rich and famous and rehab is supposed to make everything better. I think not! But, when you have friends in high places...
