Does Add-On-Itis EVER go away?

Now that I've seen that add ons are available at OKW the bug has hit me again. I know I don't need it because we already own 450 points and don't have any kids. Still, AKV and OKW are my two favorites and now all the sudden the opportunity to get a nice long contract at OKW is available.

Have you added on when you knew for a fact that the points weren't needed. Have any of you ever come to a point where enough is enough?

I've gotten to the point where I have enough points for our needs. I think generally a good indicator is when you travel as much as is feasible for your situation, and just about break even on point usage. I usually bank a few points, but occasionally borrow, depending upon the dates of our travels.

I'm actually surprised I'm not anxiously awaiting CRV (if it happens), as the CR has always been one of my favorite non-DVC resorts.

Yup - after one add-on we are traveling as much as we feasibly can in terms of both vacation time and the additional vacation $$ we spend.

Well thank goodness the bug goes away eventually. I just wish it would go away sooner rather than later. Also, it really would make sense for me to buy OKW because I couldn't have enough for a GV at the 11 month mark and that's all I'd really need OKW for. If I were to add on anywhere, it should be AKV so I could have enough to get a GV there. In a perfect world I could own a 1,000 points at each resort and stay at Disney all year!

1 would need 17111 points to stay all year at AK in a 2bd savannah view.

humm - think they'll ever change the 5000 limit??? LOL

It always goes away for me the same day I get my dues statement! It's the same cycle every year just when I start thinking I need an add-on I get my bill. It's a pretty good cure.

When you are shelling out over $200 a month in dues and you add it up and say" Damn, we just gave Disney $2400 this year on dues alone." Then you start to sell and plan maybe one trip a year, if that.

Deb & Bill, Keys....those dues DO put things in perspective. Glad you reminded me of it. I already paid our bill, but that brings back the memory. I'm cured......for now ;)

I ahve to say, this did put a little off the shine of adding on this past year. but then there was a little part of me that thought if I got a small part time job maybe I could afford a bit more:eek: I know I got it bad....:sad2:

Not for me.

I just did a small add-on at VWL last month, and am planning add-ons at GCV at DLR (as soon as sales start) and CRV (if it turns out to be DVC).

Yup, January is when it goes away for me. ;) But, it is pretty sweet when you can just call up anytime and see if they have a room for you--the money is already covered. Through various stays, I counted 24 nights on points last year. :thumbsup2

With the addition of 200 points at AKV last year at this time, we now have more than enough points. At least until we retire and can spend more time traveling. We are using the "extra" points to book larger accomodations and taking more relatives with us. DVC does NOT save money. :lmao:
We spend a fortune taking guests!

And to think, this all started with buying that first AP so that we could take a quick trip here and there to Florida for a long weekend when there were good airfare sales. That was 2004 and nothing has been the same since.

Not me! I'm not getting a job no way no how! At least not until DS starts
1st grade. ;)

I don't know if addonitis ever really goes away, but the extra long resale closing process seems to help.

Not ever! :lmao: :lmao: :rotfl: Not for us anyways. We just purchased more points when the AKV came available and I'm considering it again. But I'm waiting for the next resort.

Would love to do an add-on at GCV since it's a lot closer to us, but we added on at AKV in August and have 450 points, so that's probably it...at least for now!! ;)

Everyone says Wow, you are so lucky to have 1000 points... until I mention the DUES.... :lmao:

We are happy with the points we have, but when GCV opens up, we will buy an add on there, and then sell one of our OKW contracts, because while we could use 1200 points yearly with no problems, we are capped out on what we can pay in Dues. :guilty:
