Does a 3 year old really need a ticket?

I've seen parents trying to "sneak" their kids in with the "she's two" story. It's embarrassing. Buy the ticket, and get on with your vacation, is my answer.

Did they get caught?

Of course its wrong. However, I have another reason not to do it if the simple its wrong arguement doesnt work. Its too stressful worrying and wondering if you will make it. The ticket just brings peace of mind.

If anyone questioned me about my kids' ages when they were younger, you bet your last dollar that they'd speak up and say "MOM, I'M 3!!!!. I wouldn't take the chance and I wouldn't like to lie/steal, especially with my kids looking on.

Its the balloon boy all over again :rotfl2:

Cheshire Figment has told stories of parents trying to sneak in their kid into TL and having security called.

Granted it was something like an embarrassed 5 year old stuffed into a stroller with a teddy bear and a pacifier.

Oh boy! The lengths some people go to... :sad2:

EMHDad - yes they did. He was carrying her on his shoulders and tried to go through the turnstile with her up there. The CM asked for her to be put down and to come thru with her ticket. When the dad starting complaining, the CM simply directed him to the guest services ticket window to discuss it with them. It just seemed an unnecessary start to ones vacation, at least to me.

If you are asking us to agree with you that lying and stealing is an appropriate thing to do in WDW I think you came to the wrong place. We have 2 children and they will be 4 and 3 year and less than 1 month at the time of the trip. When I booked the trip I was thinking that he was 2 (which is his age right now). It took me all of 2 minutes after I figured out his birthday was before the trip to call and have that changed. Yes, it was a big chunk of money because we are on the package plan with Dining...but in the end, isn't it worth more than the difference in money to do the right thing. I know I will be sleeping easily while I am there instead of worrying every night if they will catch on at the next park in the morning. I also know I am setting the right example for my child...and that is priceless.

If you don't want to get him an AP then just buy him regular tickets till you renew in December...or change the date of your trip.

3 year old needing a ticket goes along the same line as when my daughter was 10 I think she was considered an adult. It might have been 11, but 10 or 11, that's ridiculous.

I was told by the CM last year that if the child begins the trip while they are 2 they are considered 2 for that entire trip. We celebrated a 3rd and 10th Birthday on the same trip in Aug/Sept 2009. So if the birthday falls during the trip is the only legitimate way to not buy a ticket.

Kids have a way of opening their mouths at the least opportune times. I wouldn't risked being asked only for the 3 to say "I'm 3 mommie" or the 7 year old to say something in front of the CM. I agree with everyone - buy the ticket; your 3 year old will get plenty of entertainment.

I think it is a shame that people even ask these questions. To me you are setting a horrible example for your children and I bet if you cheat in this area , you do it in other areas of your life. It is called having values and morals.

I will say this - I took my son who will be three in October this past February, so he wasn't even 2.5 and I got asked 3 times if he had a ticket. I simply said no and walked in. They didn't question me further. I shouldn't need to bring proof of my toddler's age. And I won't. Unfortunately that was my last free trip. I will have to buy him a ticket. Also I got asked about my dd. We went about a week before her 3rd birthday and they asked me a couple times, not every time. I again just said, nope she turns three next week. They gave me a weird look, but whatever, it was the truth! :) She would have gladly said she was 3 if they had asked her though because she knew her birthday was coming and was always saying that. She is now going to be 5 in August and she has been saying she was 4.5 since October!! LOL

It might actually be a financial relief to have your APs expiring at different times. So buy the 3 year old's for this trip, so you don't have to put out the big cost for *everyone* in December!

We were so happy to get DS his first DLR AP. He'd been there once at 1 and once at 2, and it was just wonderful that he was 3 and needed to be official! :goodvibes:love:

We have been behind "that" family. We have also been behind the family who's 3 year old proudly told the group of CM's at the turnstile "Mommy says I am three when we leave Disney". Last I saw of Mom she was headed to the ticket window.

OK...legitimate question here: We have had AP for years now. DD's birthday is in July, but I always renew our APs in February. So, when she is 8 next February, do I still buy the child AP or do I need to upgrade her to the adult since she will be turning 9 during it's use year? I wondered about this when I reewed this year but forgot to ask the CM on the phone.

I am NOT trying to get away with anything...on the contrary...trying to make sure I follow the rules & do it right!

You are good - you buy the child one, you can even take her AP to Guest Relations and get an adult one after her birthday, but I don't think you need to (that's what you do for NE tickets when kids ages change).

I've always read that if a child is going to turn 10 DURING the use year of the AP that the instruction is to buy the child AP and then renew at the adult price. I hope I'm not mistaken about this, but I do think that's the case.

It is Disney's rule, so as others have said, yes.

I think we can close this thread now. :)

To the OP- If you do not purchase a ticket for a three year old and attempt to enter the parks by lying that constitutes fraud against Disney. You can have you entire family's APs revoked,

To the poster asking about a nine year old. Disney does not penalize a child for growing older. If the child is nine or under when a pass is first used, and it still has validity when the child turns ten, Disney will upgrade it to an adult pass with the same entitlements (or expiration date if an AP) at no charge.

I've got the popcorn... who has the diet coke?

I have Michael.... Oh.... that's a WHOLE "nother" thread.... oops!:lmao:
