I want to go to Disney in Febuary. It will be myself and a little brother. We have always stayed on the monorail. I was thinking of spliting the stay this time to save money 3 days at a all star and 3 days on a monorail hotel. Is it relly worth the hassle of switching hotels. Thanks any information would be helpful. Thanks :earsgirl: :earsboy:

Hassle of Switching is a subjective thing, but last Dec we stayed at ASMo for $55 (inc tax) /night. I don't know how much monorail hotels are, but I've never been able to justify the increased cost, especially when we seem to always spend all day and night in the parks. We always rent a car and use it though, so resort to resort transfers are no hassle.

It's not a problem at all to switch resorts. Just call Bell Services the morning you are leaving to come get your luggage (or at All Stars you need to 'shlep' it down yourself to the lobby) or make arrangements with front desk to have your luggage transferred to next Disney resort or what we do it just get a taxi and take it with us when we transfer. Then we just go to next resort to checkin and luggage may or may not be there but just go to the parks and by the time you do get back your luggage will be there waiting. We will be doing same thing from AKL to Poly in July.

We swap resorts all the time, both to save some money, and to experience different resorts.

For us it's not that big of a hassle; we send the bags with Bell services in the morning, hit the parks, and check in to resort #2 at our convenience. Yeah, it takes us a few minutes to pack up the night before, but no big deal!

whether it saves you money, well, that depends on what you have booked! a deluxe can run you b/w $200 - $500 a night (give or take) and a value resort can be b/w $50 - $100 a night, so can you save $$, sure!!!

is it a hassle to switch? no, not at all.
we switch resorts for fun! not to save $$, and it is never a problem! we like to experience the different themes and locations, so it is a great way to do that! and makes it more interesting!!!

disney makes it very simple for you! as long as you are organized, and dont waste a whole lot of time packing up to move, its real easy! and hassle free!!!
I've done it a few times, I only spend about 30 minutes getting our stuff ready to move! :)

Have a great trip!

if the savings arent that great, and you'd rather stay put, then do so. do whatever will make for the best, most fun, and most relaxing wdw vacation for you!!! :)

Actually..it is a pain in the a*&% to switch rooms. We have done it several times and every time we lose the entire day the we move. My suggestion wouyld be...If you're looking at All Stars and a Monorail resort, compromise and spen all you time at a moderate. You won't lose a day and I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself!. My suggestion would be Port Orleans....but that's another discussion.

I just wanted to stress again, that it is all how you handle it.. for instance, just a couple weeks ago, we spent one week at BWV, and then switched to the YC for the second week.

we woke up on saturday morning, went to the health club, got back to the room and took showers, by 9am we started to pack up, by 9:45 we called the bellman, he came 3 minutes later and took our luggage. then we went out to the BW and had breakfast, by 10:30 am we walked over to the YC, checked in at concierge, they gave us our new keys (our room wasnt ready, but it didnt matter cause we were ready for the day anyway) so we went to Epcot, had lunch at China, went back to the YC by 3:30pm, when we were ready to rest, and our room was ready, our luggage was delivered 5 minutes later, and that is it, we were settled!

we hardly lost anytime at all! maybe an hour.... so it is all how you handle it!!!! :)

princess angel!! We will be splitting our stay between CBR and WL because there are a few in our party who cannot afford o stay at WL for our entire stay, so we compromised by staying at a mod for the first 5 days. Besides, I look at it as TWO vacations!! Why? Because the Disney theming is so authentic, you really feel transported to another place. What better opposites than CBR and its tropics to WL and the great Pacific Northwest? I don't plan on packing too much stuff, so my S-in-L and I will be doing some laundry our last night at CBR. It'll go right into the luggage, and -VOILA!!- all set for the move to WL...

It's different strokes for different folks. I honestly think it just depends upon what type of personality you have. For some people it IS a hassle to switch, for some it ISN'T.

For ME, I don't like it. I'm the kind of person that puts a lot of thought into what kind of room I want, location, view, etc. To have to worry about this twice is just a pain. I also like to completely unpack when I settle into a room. The last thing I want to do is pack up again after a couple days and move everything, then unpack again....only to pack everything up AGAIN a few days later.

The way I DON'T mind doing it is to spend ONE FIRST night elsewhere....That way you can just pack a small bag for that night and keep everything else separate. Even doing that though, I never feel settled until I check into the resort I will spend the bulk of my vacation at.

All these reports of...."Oh, just call bell services and go to the other resort"...are just a tad simplistic.

one last comment:

We will NOT be calling Bell Services since we are driving to WDW. We will just repack our conversion van, drive directly to WL and check in.....

We have switched WDW resorts so many times I have lost count, since we are DVC owners we very often either stay at a WDW nonDVC resort at the beginning of the trip or switch to a WDW nonDVC resort at the end of the trip or sometimes do both, to save on the riduculous DVC pts needed for Fri & Sat nights. I just returned from a 12 night/13 day WDW trip. We switched resorts 3 times in the 13 days. Disney does make it very, very easy for their guests to switch resorts and yes you do have a possible portion of each day of switching resorts without a room to go to, but if you plan around this it really is a painless process. The biggest pain for me is packing and unpacking but you do experience different resorts and you can definitely save a lot of money or DVC pts. We usually make the day we switch resorts a day to hang out at the pool and relax and then hit the parks for the evening once we have settled into our new resort.
