Dodges a bullet *WHEW*

Hmmm...a few less posts in here than there were a few minutes ago. Hopefully the OP isn't the only person who has learned something today.

I didn't even notice. :confused3 I was still watching the mouse and the spoon and the kitty. :rotfl2:

If people are all like the OP, I shall be dead in a few minutes when they all come after me to beat me up for my WORDS, just WORDS!

And now the Bee Gees' sone "Words" is playing over and over and over and over and over and ... :rotfl:

Not kidding, I'm both easily amused AND easily distracted. :upsidedow

I  that song. Now I have to youtube it.

Does anyone remember All In The Family, The Jeffersons and Sandford and Son? Those shows were so politically incorrect by todays standards, but I miss the days when we can have a laugh over stereotypes. My husband is Asian ans laughs his guts out over the Asian jokes, I do have Italian "connected: family members and even they laugh. My SIL is a Jew and she laughs, and to top it all off, my gay married brothers in law have adopted a African American baby girl and they laugh at the stereotypes. On and if my Black State Trooper BIL got a black bashing from someone, he laughs it off because ones who verbally bash him are ignorant rednecks who can't understand that he puts his pistol packing body in harms way to protect those morons. But he doesn't let it get to him.

I just can't see becoming violent over words.

As far as Mexicans, there are so many living here in NYC and they're hard working family people. I love Mexicans, and they jajajajaaaaa over the stereotype thing.

My point is that hitting someone over words is juvenile and can be dangerous as well as get you into trouble.

We need more Archie Bunkers and George Jeffersons around to set us straight on how anal we've become over words.

My family is going over to a dinner party at my friends. Its just us and them. They are gay and have been together just a year less then my wife and I. Theyre like family to me.

So Im at work, and I mention to someone else that we are having dinner at so and so's house, and he says

"Youre taking your daughter there? Dont you know theyre gay! What parent would take their kid to a gay guys house?!?!?!?!"

I got physical...... Couldnt help it. Just lost it. He then made a claim against me.

I feel so stupid for losing it.

Good news is, In my mediation meeting, I told them what happened and gave them a choice. If they filed the dispute, I would press for the guy I got physical with who made those comments about gays. I would file hostile work environment and involve the media. Since this place is very diverse oriented, they agreed to go back to him and give him "his options"

He dropped the complaint.

I hate to have done it that way but it could have cost me my job. I feel so stupid that I lost it. I know better then that. But I went from cordial to butt kicking in no time at all. I just snapped....

It sure was a teaching moment for my DD14! LOL Yeah, dad screws up too hun.

Good luck! This is not an unusual occurance where I work- someone always throwing a punch and it has never resulted in being fired. Occasionally it will cost someone a week with no pay but never their job.

Where I work, there is zero tolerance for physical violence, and the OP would have been walked out immediately.

Cause I stood up for gays? We exchanged heated words in the event. I called him names that suit his (homophobe, bigot) philosophy etc. He called me a cigarette lover (see british slang for cigarette)

It wasnt a pleasant exchange.

:sad2: You were not standing up for "gays". You were offended because the guy called your parental judgement into question. If you really wanted to make a difference you would have used the conversation to make sure your coworker knew that you considered his works offensive and that they were not appropriate for the workplace. Instead you over reacted, put hands on a coworker and made the story about you. It is my opinion that if you really wanted to use this as a teaching moment for your DD your behavior during the exchange would have been to use the laws that are in place to help make your workplace a safe environment for everyone.

You say that your company works with the State so it is imperative that the laws are followed and your HR department would have corrected your coworker. Instead, if you are to be believed, you have placed your company in an uncomfortable position. In order to keep you employed they really need to overlook the entire exchange and your coworker gets off scott-free. You taught your DD how to make sure that a workplace bully keeps his job.

Or just watch the bouncy mousey:
:lmao:

Now you all have done it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am fixated on the darn cat and mouse

I was a freshman in HS when ALL in the family came on the air. My Civics teacher assigned the show as homework. We were discussing the Civil Rights Movement at the time and Holy Moly!!!!!!!!!!!!! Was it an eyeopener for a small town girl like me ;)

My DH and I still watch AITF and I have to say that the words that Archie uses make more of a statement today IMO then they did back then. Back then I think they were inflammatory and shocking but they were part of language for a lot of people. Archie said out loud what folks only said in "safe" company. Today, when I hear the words and the ideas he spouts in his conversations and I laugh at some it is different for me. The people who would use the words he uses today are the joke in a sad ignorant way. I know that I am not saying this well but Archie still has a message to share I think. :sad1:
